Book 1 After I Died, My
Husband Moved His Lover into My Home
“Henrieta, what’s wrong with you again?!”
On the other end of the phone, Steve’s voice was filled with impatience and fatigue, like sharp needles piercing deep into my heart.
I weakly spoke, my voice faltering, “I was hit by a car… help…”
“Where are you? I’ll come right away!”
The urgency in his tone sparked a glimmer of hope in me, but in the next moment, that hope was ruthlessly extinguished.
“Wait.”

Steve’s voice hesitated. “Eve cut her hand
while chopping vegetables, I need to take her to the hospital first.”
“Rita, you know Eve’s been afraid of pain since she was a child. I have to be with her.”
His voice was gentle, yet there was no concern for me, his wife, lying in a pool of blood.
The cold, monotonous beeping of the phone echoed in my ears, cutting off my last strand of hope.
I died.
After Steve hung up, I succumbed to my injuries and died on the spot.
Though I was clearly dead, my soul seemed

tethered by an invisible thread, unable to leave Steve’s side.
I watched helplessly as he rushed Evelyn into the hospital, saw him pacing anxiously outside the emergency room, and heard him apologizing to her in a low voice.
“Eve, I’m so sorry. It’s my fault, I didn’t take better care of you.”
He half–embraced Evelyn, soothing her as she cried, his eyes filled with affection–an expression I had never seen directed at me.
The phone rang sharply in Steve’s ear, but he ignored it, holding tightly to Evelyn’s hand, his face tense with worry.
Finally, Evelyn frowned at the persistent ringing, and Steve answered the call.

“Henrieta, what do you want now?!”
Steve’s irritated voice, mixed with the noise in the background, stabbed into my eardrums like needles.
The person on the other end hesitated for a moment, then composed themselves and explained, “Is this Mr. Buck? I’m a nurse from the city hospital.”
Steve frowned impatiently. “What is it?”
“Mr. Buck, your wife, Henrieta Buck, is in our hospital. Please come over immediately.”
The nurse’s voice was urgent.
“Hospital? Henrieta? What’s her game this time?”
Steve cut her off. “Don’t think I don’t know

what Henrieta is up to again! She’s trying to use suicide to manipulate me!”
“Tell her I don’t have time for her silly games! If she wants to die, she should just do it and stop bothering me!”
Steve’s cold indifference shocked me.
Hearing the disdain in his words, seeing the disgust in his expression, I had a moment of disbelief. It felt like I wasn’t his wife, but a despised enemy.
He impatiently ended the call and turned back to Evelyn, his face softening instantly into a gentle smile. “Eve, don’t worry, I’m here with you.”
His entire world revolved around Evelyn. He didn’t even hear the nurse’s final words: Henrieta was already dead.

I watched him fuss over Evelyn, whose only injury was a small cut from chopping vegetables, his anxiety as if he were the one hurt.
I watched him comfort her with tenderness, his eyes filled with care.
“Eve, the doctor will be here soon.”
“It’s nothing, just a little cut,” Evelyn’s delicate voice pierced my heart like a knife.
It was just a minor wound, yet Steve acted as if the sky was falling, rushing Evelyn to the hospital.
And me?
I lay cold and forgotten in the morgue, with
no one to care.

The phone rang again. Seeing it was the hospital, Steve hung up without hesitation.
Perhaps worried that his sweet time with Evelyn would be interrupted again, he pulled up my contact in his messaging app and angrily warned me: “Henrieta, don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to again!”
“I’m telling you, I’ve had enough of you! If you keep acting out like this, I’ll really divorce you!”
After that, he blocked me.
The action was swift, practiced.
Clearly, this wasn’t the first time.
I was dead, but watching all of this still made my heart ache as if it were being torn apart.

That pain, like a sharp knife, cut through my soul, making me feel like I was slowly crumbling.
I watched him hold Evelyn tenderly, comforting her in a soft voice.
“Eve, I’m so sorry. It’s my fault, I didn’t take better care of you.”
He patiently soothed her as she cried, his eyes filled with a tenderness I had never known.
It was just a small cut, but as the nurse bandaged her hand, Steve’s face was full of concern and guilt, his words of comfort unending.
The tender scene made the nurse envious, and she kept saying, “Your husband really loves you.””

After the bandaging was done, Steve carefully asked the nurse for advice, afraid to miss even the smallest detail.
I was like an outsider, watching the man I loved pour all his gentleness and affection. into another woman.
In his eyes, I was nothing more than a nuisance, a troublemaker.
I remembered the first time I cooked, spilling scalding soup on my hand, raising a blister. Steve had glanced at it indifferently and coldly said, “Clumsy.”
He even complained that I had dirtied the clean floor.
And now, he fussed over Evelyn, caring book and verse about her every little need.
