Chapter 9
Tonight, the bar was closed for a team–building event. The venue was, of course, the bar itself, where everyone was used to hanging out. The activities naturally revolved around drinking, playing dice, and cards.
As the night went on, we ended up playing Truth or Dare. I don’t know if it was just bad luck or what, but several times the bottle ended up pointing at me. The dare I drew was to kiss the person next to me.
To be honest, if it had just been drinking for the dare, I wouldn’t have minded. But when I saw that the person sitting next to me was Adrian, I decided to tease him. I made a move as if I was about to kiss him, but he suddenly pulled back, holding up his glass

and drinking it all in one go.
“I’ll drink for her,” he said.
His action caught me off guard, and I could hear my friend Mina teasing me from across the table.
“Ellie, looks like your charm’s gone down, huh? Little bro’s not interested?”
I just smiled and shrugged. I hadn’t planned on actually kissing him. I was only joking.
But Adrian seemed genuinely offended. His face, flushed from the alcohol, turned
serious as he looked at Mina and said, “Ellie is very charming. It’s Ellie who doesn’t like
me…

His words left me momentarily stunned, and Mina was caught off guard too before

quickly reacting. “So, does that mean your like Ellie?”
Adrian’s face turned bright red, and he stammered, unwilling to answer.
Mina, not one to back off, pressed further, “What do you like about Ellie? Apart from her good looks, what else?”
I couldn’t help but laugh awkwardly, realizing how hopeless I seemed in front of my teasing friends.
After hearing this, Adrian immediately became serious. “Ellie is perfect! You’re not allowed to speak badly about her!”
Even in his drunken state, he dared to stand up to Mina, the vice–president of the bar. Yet, she didn’t get angry. Instead, she gave me a meaningful look.

I ignored her gaze, as most of the others had already drunk themselves into a stupor, so the conversation didn’t continue. I ended up sending everyone home in taxis, one by one.
In the end, Adrian was the last to leave. He kept muttering about wanting to take me home to make sure that “bad guy” didn’t bother me. “Bad guy, of course, referred to Jarvis.
It took a little effort, but I managed to get him to leave.
Mina watched the car drive off and said, “Adrian’s not bad. Have you thought about it?”
I stared at the dark night for a long time before quietly replying, “I’m not thinking about that right now.”

Since that day, after Jarvis left, he didn’t
return.
But someone else showed up – Gianna.
She came up to my bar and ordered a drink. Thanks to Jarvis, I knew Gianna couldn’t handle alcohol.
I kindly suggested, “You’re not feeling well, we have non–alcoholic drinks.”
But she wasn’t grateful. Instead, she threw the menu back at me and snapped, “Just do your job and stop meddling.”
I didn’t insist any further and made the drink. But once she started sipping it, she began nitpicking.
I wasn’t sure what her purpose was, but if

she was deliberately looking for trouble, I would have to ask her to leave.
I waved to call over a waitress to get security, but Gianna suddenly stood up, pointing at me and shouting loudly, “You slut! You’re flirting with my husband! You’ve already divorced him, and I’m about to marry. him. Why are you still clinging to him?”
“Everyone, come look at this woman, shamelessly seducing another woman’s husband!”
Her words immediately drew the attention of the people around us.
Adrian, hearing the commotion, rushed over and yelled, “What nonsense are you talking about?!”
Gianna shrank back, but then raised her

voice even louder, “And now there’s a man here too! Elena, you’re truly shameless!”
Adrian clenched his fists, about to retort, but I stopped him.
“Gianna, Jarvis once said you were like a madwoman, and I didn’t believe it, but now I
do.”
“Do you think I don’t have proof of the things you and Jarvis did in the past? Do you want me to remind you, step by step?”
I had kept evidence of their messages and their inappropriate behavior, just in case they tried to turn things around and accuse me falsely.
Gianna clearly didn’t believe me and continued making a scene, talking nonsense to the people around us. But it didn’t have

the effect she intended.
Most of the people here were regulars, and they knew me well. They didn’t believe a word she said.
One person in the crowd laughed and said, “Your husband is that sickly ugly guy, right?”
“He used to come here every day not long ago. Anyone could see he was the one bothering Elena.”
“You should manage your husband better. Look at your own problems before blaming innocent people.”
The crowd burst into laughter.
Gianna stood in the middle, pale–faced, as people around her mocked and discussed
her.

Someone in the crowd parted the people and made his way to the center–it was Jarvis.
He sternly scolded Gianna, “What are you
doing her?!”

After scolding her, he turned to look at me, his eyes full of apology. “Ellie, I’m sorry,
I didn’t know she’d come here to make a

I avoided his gaze. “Stop it. Take your fiancée and get out of here.”
He immediately countered, “No, she’s not my fiancée! I’m clean with her!”
A voice from the crowd piped up, “This woman is claiming you’re her husband. You can’t even come up with a decent excuse?”

Laughter erupted once again.
Jarvis’s face turned pale, and with everyone staring at him, he tried to explain.
At that moment, the security guards arrived and promptly escorted them both out.
I thanked everyone in the bar and sent fruit platters and drinks to each table as a gesture of appreciation.
