Chapter 10
Since the day Adrian indirectly confessed his feelings, it was as if he had dropped all
pretense.”
He no longer tried to conceal his emotions, gazing at me every day with those starry eyes. Yet, he never overstepped his boundaries, always speaking with care and restraint.
He brought me thoughtful treats–genuine gestures that never felt overwhelming.
He wasn’t like the others who had pursued me before, with their overly familiar hands and suggestive words.
Adrian always gave me the strange impression of having an invisible tail,

wagging frantically whenever he saw me.
I had told him clearly that I wasn’t in the right frame of mind for a relationship.
He had simply smiled and said, “That’s okay. Liking you is something I do for myself. But if my feelings ever become a burden to you, I’ll quietly step back.”
His words left no room for argument, so I let the matter drop.
That evening, just as I arrived at the bar and changed into my uniform, a notification lit up my phone.
Out of habit, I tapped on it and found myself watching a video.
The footage was unfiltered, and I
immediately recognized Gianna standing

at the edge of a rooftop, with Jarvis a short distance away, trying to coax her down.
The scene was crowded with doctors, the hospital setting unmistakable.
Gianna’s voice pierced through the recording, sharp and trembling:
“Jarvis! You promised to take care of me. You lied!”
Jarvis stood a few steps away, his tone measured but firm: “Come down first! We can talk once you’re down!”
Then, more softly, almost to himself but caught by the camera:
“I can’t believe this nonsense. Unreal”
His voice carried a note of irritation, but the

microphone picked it up clearly.
Just as it seemed Gianna was about to calm down, she stumbled, her legs buckling from sheer tension.
She fell.
The impact was fatal, and she died on the spot.
The video spread like wildfire, igniting a storm of outrage online. The hospital, bowing to the pressure, dismissed Jarvis. No institution would touch him after that.
I watched the report like a spectator at a show, detached.
None of it had anything to do with me–it wouldn’t change my life in the slightest.

A month later, after work, Adrian was changing inside, so I waited for him outside.
For the past few days, he had been the one to take me home after work.
I had only been standing there for a few moments when a figure began walking toward me.
At first, I didn’t pay much attention, but as the person drew closer, I recognized the face.
It was Jarvis–he looked exhausted. Though he was neatly dressed, his weariness was still evident.
His eyes were filled with sadness as he looked at me. “Ellie, is there really no chance for me anymore?”

I told him firmly, “No.”
He covered his eyes in pain, his voice muffled. “Why? I don’t want to lose you.”
Then, as if an idea struck him, he suddenly lifted his head, his eyes bright with a spark of hope. “You still carry my name, right? Yes, you have my name tattooed on you.”
“That’s our bond! Please, Ellie, give me another chance. I swear I’ll treat you right this time.”
I watched him, his behavior far from normal, and I sentenced him with certainty. “I’ve had the tattoo removed. We have no connection anymore.”
I had just gone for the fourth session yesterday. It only took an hour to get the tattoo, but removing it required many painful

sessions to fade the marks.
Jarvis lowered his head, silent for a while, then spoke in a hoarse voice, “Does it hurt?”
For a moment, I didn’t understand what he meant. “What?”
He looked up at me. “Does getting the tattoo removed hurt?”
I answered without any anger, my tone as calm as if stating a fact. “Not nearly as much as the pain you caused me.”
“If you really love me, then don’t come after me again. My life is good now. I’m content. Your presence only disturbs me.”
Jarvis looked at me again, his gaze intense as if trying to imprint me in his mind.

“Alright, Ellie. I’ll do as you wish. I won’t come after you again. Just please… don’t forget me too quickly…”
With those words, he turned and walked away. I watched his retreating figure.
Then I heard Adrian’s voice behind me. “Ellie! What are you looking at?”
I snapped my gaze away from Jarvis and looked at Adrian, who was walking toward me. I smiled and shook my head. “Nothing. What took you so long?”
Adrian grumbled. “Ellie, you don’t know how careless Noel is! He didn’t finish cleaning up, so I had to do it myself.”
I couldn’t help but laugh at his childish side.
A thought suddenly crossed my mind:

Maybe love wasn’t the cage–maybe it was the person.
That was the last time I saw Jarvis. Wichita is a big place, and unless we deliberately sought each other out, we might never cross paths again.
The End.

I had taken care of the blind CEO for six years, and now he had regained his sight.
The first thing he did was propose to his “first love“.
Honestly, I no longer cared.
