I don’t know how long it had been, but I finally arrived home.
Standing at the door, I could hear
Angela’s coquettish laughter from inside, accompanied by Erik’s oily responses and flirtations.
I couldn’t take it anymore. I swung the door open and stormed in, slapping Erik across the face with all my strength.

The company planned to set up a counter in one of the major cities in the west next year to expand its territory.
By the end of the year, they needed someone to scout the area. When my boss asked me about it two days ago, I agreed without hesitation.
“Sis, what are you doing packing your things?”
Angela entered the bedroom casually and plopped herself down on the edge of the bed, as if she were at home.
I didn’t answer her, hastily packing a few coats and important documents. Grabbing my suitcase, I headed for the door.

“I’ve already entrusted the divorce to the lawyer. Erik, we’re done.”
Erik’s eyes suddenly turned vicious, and he leaped towards me, kicking my suitcase over. He grabbed me by the arm and violently pushed me onto the couch.
“Did I agree to a divorce? Sidney, don’t you dare humiliate me!”
His hand struck my face with a brutal force.
I struggled desperately, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t break free from his grip.

Enduring the pain, I barely managed to speak, “…Erik, it’s your mother. Aren’t you going to listen to what she has to say?”
Before he could react, I pressed the answer button and switched it to speaker mode.
Mrs. Conner’s frantic voice immediately came through.
“Sid, why, why are you getting a divorce? Did Erik do something wrong?”
“We can’t divorce, Sid. Your father’s
condition has relapsed, and we need you to ask Dr.Welch for help!”
“Erik didn’t do anything wrong. Mom will go scold him. Don’t, don’t divorce him!”

Erik snatched the phone from me. “Mom, what did you just say? Dad is sick?”
