Barricaded inside the bedroom we’d shared the last month, I found myself pacing the confines of the floor. Having ignored my usual routine I hadn’t gone downstairs for breakfast, nor for tending to the roses Id been placed in a state of anxiety I didn’t fully understand, nor had it improved in the hours since. An edginess had crawled into the pit of my stomach, weighing me down, and getting worse by the second.
Growling at the state my mind was placed in. I spun away from the window and stormed out of the room. Briefly pecking in to see Lisa puttering around the room, and Angel fast asleep ergoying her afternoon nap. Pleased I wouldn’t be needed for some time I headed down the corridor and descended the stairs. My path to find Kadden proved easier than I thought Id barely reached the middle of the steps when I spied him in the living room, in the presence of the men. The Remnant’s I knew
Normally known for my avoidance of those of high standing in the pack, it couldn’t be helped today. My anxiety wouldn’t allow me to stick to the background, forcing me to move towards him. To Kadden. For the last couple of days, I’d noticed my need for this man had magnified dramatically. Constantly finding myself seeking out his presence, and hated when we were apart. I didn’t understand where this sudden co–dependency was coming from, but neither could it be ignored either. I needed him. For that reason alone as soon as I reached the bottom of the stairs I went right in the man in question.
“Von,” he greeted.
One of the elegantly dressed men, the same one who’d been here the last time, shifted his gaze. His eyes, a sickening black that made my skin crawl, roved over me in a way I didn’t like. A snarky grin surfaced. “Ah, now I see. She’s quite a delectable creature.”
Obviously displeased at the reaction I was getting out of the man, an arm hooked around my slender waist. Then I found myself being dragged until I was practically pressed to his chest, shielding me from them “Now that we’ve concluded our business you’re free to leave.”
His orden of departure were ignored as a middle–aged man focused his gaze on me too. Moving closer ignoring Kadden’s growl, he lifted a hand and has scratchy lips pressed a kiss to the top. “Where have you been hiding? This can’t be the rogue I’ve heard so much about”
I tipped my head. “Vous Silvervayne.”
Kadden pulled me closer to him.
“My name is Vincent Halbrook, the youngest of the Remnant attendants introduced himself, bringing my palm to his lips too. “Derek is quite right, you aren’t the typical rogue. You’re special.”

Though I was curious as to why the goddess chose that moment to guide me into hiding. I didn’t think to ask questions. Surely she had her reasons. For that reason alone I immediately ducked my head, connecting with that side of me I never understood. Dredging up the unique ability of shrouding. I tried to mask myself from them but feared it was too late. These men had sensed something inside of me and weren’t about to let it go so easily.
Derek’s eyes rounded in surprise as he continued to watch me. almost like he sensed me trying to shield myself. It was the same reaction that Vincent was having, assuring neither was blind to the truth. I gulped. Was it possible? Could these men sense my abilities? Panic surged up inside of me, because if they sensed the truth they would only wonder about the possibility. The goddess had often cautioned me to keep knowledge of my talents to myself, it’d place me in danger. Diamond too had assured me of how special i was, that if the wrong person found out I’d be in danger. “We’ll leave you be, Simon elected to inform them, motioning for both of the men in his presence to leave. The same questioning light focused on that of the woman Kadden held though I wouldn’t look at him. “It was a pleasure to meet you. Von Silvervayne. I look forward to your presentation at the Gulley.”
I didn’t dare lift my gaze until all three men had left the manor, no chance of meeting their gaze. Eyes full of worry lifted to stare at the face overhead, Kadden hadn’t released me since. “What did they mean! For my presemation at the Gulley?”
His grp tightened. “It doesn’t matter.”
“Kadden,” I tried to protest.
Confident the men did have intentions to come back, his arms slowly unfurled around me. Only as he made his way back to the office I was hot his heels, though it wasn’t the need of a talk. There was a reason I had come downutain in the first place, hating the distance between us. I didn’t know why Diamond was so adamant about being attached to his hip, but I wasn’t fighting her on this
“What’s wrong” he asked.
Instead of giving him the answers he wanted from me, I talked across the floor, to his seat at the desk. Then taking the lead of what to do immediately scrambled into his lap, curling up against his chest. Laughing gruffly at my whispered response, Kadden scooted the chair closer to the desk and got down to work. He’d become fairly adept at working while I snuggled in his arms, as I’d done often in recent days. Picking up the sheaf of paper Kadden focused on the task at hand, rather than the
woman in his arms
Halfway through the day Beta Alex and Gamma Thom came into the room, but stopped at the sight. Alex stared at the creature that’d curled up in his lap, definitely a new change in the house. “You are aware that you have grown a mass in recent hours.”
Kadden snapped his gaze in the direction of the man, seeming irritated he’d dared to question the change. Purring came from me as I felt the hand on my back, my wolf calmed at the presence of the man. “Well it’s about time you get used to it, I have a feeling that it will become a repeat
occurence.”
“I think she’s fretting.” Gamma Thorn opted to suggest to them, coming into the room he sat down on the couch to the side. His feet propped up on the coffee table, making himself at home. “If you haven’t noticed, the girl’s been on edge since Layla and Olivia moved into the house. It’s only gotten so much worse since Bianca Blake was here.”
“I’ve noticed,” his beta muttered,
Kadden nodded. He had to.
Gamma Thorn leaned back in his seat. “If I was you I’d advise you to get a handle on that now, before it causes devastating consequences. The only reason she’s behaving this way is because you’ve given her reason to doubt the bond. Of course, her wolf will be edgy and panicked, feeling the need to mark her territory.”
Alex snorted as if you’d know”

Kadden brought their attention back to him. “As enlightening as all of this has been, it isn’t the reason I asked you here. After repeated reports from nearby packs, I have a need to leave Blood Diamond for a time. I need both of you to arrange a trip. I’ll need a list of the packs within a day or two time, the safest path outlined, and a dozen guards to come. Beta I need you and your wife to remain here in my stead, just to be on the safe side. While I’m gone my daughter and Von are to be placed under guard”
I perked up at that.
He was leaving?
His gamma smirked at his thought process. “My king man, no offense, but do you honestly think you’re going to leave the pack, for an extended period, without your newest addition”
