Chapter 181: Asking Marcus to a Blind Date for a Second Marriage
Cassius walked beside her.
“Like wild chicken and snake? You’re planning on joining some wilderness survival reality show?
Gemma laughed, her eyes full of confidence.
“I’m not kidding, I used to be really good at catching wild chickens. Once I caught ‘em, I’d roast ‘em up.”
“As for snake, after seeing those poisonous snakes at your old place, I haven’t been in the mood for it lately.”
Cassius paused mid–step.
“You really like catching wild chickens?”
“I mean, I catch hedgehogs and rabbits too, but they’re a hassle to deal with. If I’m living on the mountain, I’d usually go for chicken”
Gemma continued, now explaining from a medical angle.
“Let’s say, rabbit meat has a lot of protein. But in a survival situation, it’s not the best choice. It actually burns through your energy faster.
“Because your body needs extra energy just to process that protein.”
“Chicken’s not perfect either, but it’s easier to digest and has fewer germs.”
After all, wild chickens don’t eat much.
As they spoke, the two of them had already left the church and were walking down a winding path.
Marcus, under Margaret’s repeated instructions, had no choice but to take Alijah back to the old house,
Alijah was not happy at all.
These past couple of days, following Marcus to work, had brought some joy back to him.
But going back to the old house? He was worried he’d end up as just his grandmother’s little machine again.
Marcus had promised he wouldn’t leave him there, though.
So Alijah felt a bit better.
Marcus rubbed his forehead, exhausted. He called Hector to drive.
He closed his eyes to rest.
When Alijah had been sick, Marcus had learned firsthand that taking care of a kid wasn’t easy.
Back then, they had a caregiver, and for the next few days, he didn’t really have to manage things himself.
Now that the kid was by his side…
He realized Alijah was like a broken record.
The kid would repeat the same questions over and over again–questions Marcus had already answered.
Yet Alijah kept forgetting and asking again.
And no matter what he saw, Alijah would always ask why.
If he knew why about everything, he’d be a scientist by now.
And getting him to read books?
That was another story. He just couldn’t sit still, didn’t like reading, and ended up running to the work area, where he made a female employee cry over some small thing.
Actually, just last night, Marcus had even hit Alijah.
It all started when he was working late, trying to sort out some issues with the chips they were developing with the Raven family. Then, he heard arguing outside.
He went out to check.
It was Alijah, bullying his employee.
The employee had been standing in line for instant noodles.
Alijah, needing some water, decided to cut in.
The employee had already been polite and let him go first.
But Alijah still didn’t think he’d done anything wrong and mocked her instead.
“You’ll all be working for me from now on. Better show some respect.”
“Or F’ll kick you out right now!”
The female employee was completely confused about how she’d offended this little master.
- is.

She was scared, worried she might lose her job, and ended up in tears.
As the CEO of the company, Marcus had to keep his image intact, especially in front of the staff.
In just one day, Alijah had undone all the effort Marcus had put into maintaining that image.
He was furious.
After being hit, Alijah didn’t cry or throw a tantrum–he just had red rims around his eyes.
The female employees quickly tried to plead for him.
That’s when Marcus decided to stop punishing the kid.
“Ali, you’ve been quiet. Are you mad at me?”
Alijah touched his face where Marcus had struck him.
“No.”
“Spare the rod, spoil the child.”
Marcus felt a little relieved.
“Good. I knew you were a good kid.”
Alijah kept his head down, his face unreadable.
Marcus wasn’t the most attentive person, so he just said.
“When we get back, if Grandma says anything, just pretend you didn’t hear. I’ll pick you up tonight.”
Alijah muttered an “Okay,” still with his head down, clearly not interested in the whole situation.
Marcus sighed inwardly and decided not to push it further.
Before long, the car pulled up outside the old house.
The butler hurried out to greet them.
“Young Master, Little Master, Madam Margaret’s been waiting for you. By the way, Little Master, she knows you’ve been down lately and made you a mini Ferris wheel. Want to go try it?”
Despite his bad feelings about the old house, five–year–old Alijah couldn’t resist the allure of a toy and immediately followed the butler to the backyard.
Marcus knew this was when Margaret would want to have some private conversation with him.
As he entered the living room, he was surprised to find Mabel sitting on the couch in loose cotton pajamas, arranging flowers.
Hearing the door open, she looked up with a smile.
“Max, you’re back! What do you think of these flowers I just learned to arrange?”
Marcus didn’t even look at the flowers. He just asked, “Where’s Mom?”
“Oh, Mom’s upstairs.” Mabel stood up. “I’ll go get her.”
Marcus’s expression darkened. “Who told you to call her ‘Mom‘?”
Mabel laughed shyly.
“You’re ridiculous. Mom said it’s only a matter of time, so I might as well get used to calling her that.”
Marcus’s body was tense, a cold look in his eyes.
‘Don’t ever call her that again.”
With that, he turned and headed upstairs.
Mabel clenched her teeth in frustration, angrily snapping off the last flower she was holding.
Upstairs.
When Margaret saw him come in, she smiled and motioned for him to sit next to her.
As he got closer, he saw she was flipping through a photo album.
The album was full of fashionable beauties.
“Mom, what are you looking at?”
“Your future blind date candidates,” Margaret said, pointing to the top photo of a woman with long curly hair.
This is the eldest daughter of the Black family. She just came back from studying abroad and has taken over her family’s cosmetics business. She’s doing well

climb to the next level.”
“Didn’t you mention the Raven family before? I think, within five years, we could surpass them and become the top family in the capital.”
The more Margaret talked, the more excited she became, her eyes practically shining.
Marcus didn’t even glance at the album. He tossed it straight into the nearby trash can.
“Heh. You let her call you ‘Mom‘ downstairs, and you’ve still got the nerve to set me up for a blind date? You really are busy.”
Margaret froze for a second.
Her son was usually very obedient, hardly ever arguing with her.
“Are you angry? I just had her call me ‘Mom‘ to keep her calm. If anyone finds out, I’ll just say she’s my goddaughter. Problem solved.”
“Otherwise, if she finds out you’re going on blind dates, it’ll cause a scene, and both the company and you will be in trouble.”
