Chapter 180: Gemma’s Anger and Mr. Cassius’s Heart
Maybe it was because he sensed someone watching him.
Cassius stiffened slightly, then slowly stood up. After a moment, he glanced back over his shoulder.
“Did we agree to pray together? Why didn’t you call me?”
“What if I did something wrong, and Elizabeth complain about me.”
Gemma’s tone was teasing.
But underneath, she was feeling all sorts of emotions.
Prayers of gratitude usually meant he already made his wish come true, right?
Which meant, Cassius had met someone he loved.
She couldn’t help but think–whoever was the one he truly cared for, they had to be really happy.
She lived on the estate, but she’d never heard anything about this woman.
He must have been keeping her well protected.
It was clear he was serious.
Cassius seemed to want to stop her, but she walked past him without a word.
Her mind was in a mess, and honestly, she hadn’t made any real wish.
She had even forgotten that she was supposed to be praying for Elizabeth.
“I’ll take over,” she said.
“Finished praying? I’m heading back.”
They’d agreed on two days.
If she left the mountain now, she’d probably be exhausted by the time she got down.
Thankfully, one of the staff came over and told her it was time to eat.
She didn’t bother going back to her room and headed straight for the restaurant.
There were quite a few tourists, with a few nuns scattered around.
It was lively enough.
She picked out two meat dishes and two vegetarian ones, finishing almost all of it without seeing Cassius.
Oh, of course.
Someone like him would definitely have special treatment at the church.
She decided not to worry about it.
With a bite of veggies, a bite of meat, she was content–no need to make herself suffer.
“Hey, that leather cord on your wrist looks familiar…”
A woman, probably in her forties, spoke up, sitting across from Gemma with an envious look.
“I know that one! They say it’s a good luck charm that helps you find true love. Only those who are meant to have it can buy one. I’ve been here for ages and still can’t get one. You must have visited a lot, huh?”
Gemma blinked.
That’s not really it…
Cassius wasn’t the type to have so much time on his hands.
This leather cord was something he’d put on her wrist after her close brush with death.
It must be for protection.
After all, the designs were pretty similar.
And with someone like Cassius, he had to have connections–he’d probably get multiple ones.
They were good friends now, so him giving her one seemed normal enough.
“Nope,” she said casually.
The woman seemed surprised but quickly thought it over,
Maybe Gemma didn’t want to talk about it.
“Oh, so you’re here to pray?”
Gemma nodded. “Yeah.”

The woman’s face lit up with envy. “Looks like you’ve found your happily–ever–after.”
Gemma was caught off guard. “Huh?”
“No, no, you misunderstood. I’m here with a friend.”
The woman raised an eyebrow, then seemed to reconsider.
“Ah, too bad. I was hoping to ask you something.”
Gemma, feeling a bit down, figured it might be good to chat with someone, so she went along with it.
“What’s on your mind?”
The woman rested her chin in her hand, looking a bit wistful.
“Leather cords by Lover’s Bridge come in three types.”
“One is for couples who want to stay together forever, so they pray for a good omen.”
“Another is for someone who loves someone, but that person doesn’t feel the same, hoping for a miracle.”
“The third is for someone who doesn’t even know where their love is, hoping the charm will bring them together.”
She paused, letting out a sigh.
“I’ve been searching for my crush for over ten years. I came here today hoping the leather cord might work its magic.”
“If the one by the bridge really has power, maybe I’ll find him soon and bring him here to pray.”
Gemma wasn’t really interested in other people’s love lives, but the woman kept talking, and Gemma didn’t get a chance to interrupt.
“Well, good luck with that.”
The woman gave a bitter smile. “I sure hope so.”
And with that, she stood up and left.
Gemma finished her meal, took a walk, and tried to digest.
There was a Lover’s Bridge nearby where people locked up love locks.
A girl was complaining.
“I told you, we like each other, we should have picked a solid lock. The one for finding your lover is the chain–link one.”
“Okay, I’ll go swap it now,” the guy quickly apologized and rushed off.
Gemma felt a bit gloomy watching them.
After all, having been through a failed marriage, she couldn’t help but think of the endless cycle of love turning to disillusionment.
She sighed. Might as well head back to her room.
But just as she turned, she spotted Cassius.
“What are you doing here?”
She walked over, surprised, and gave him a once–over. “Did you finish praying?”
Cassius glanced at the bridge.
“You went to lock a love lock?”
“Impossible,” Gemma replied casually. “I barely escaped one cage, why would I walk into another?”
Cassius’s expression darkened for a moment, but then he seemed almost relieved.
“Yeah, let’s head back.”
Gemma nodded, but after a few steps, she asked, “Were you by the bridge the whole time?”
“Yeah.”
“Then you haven’t eaten lunch yet?”
“No.”
“Why didn’t you ask them to prepare something special for you?”
“The church doesn’t do that kind of thing.”
Gemma blinked.
“Is the cafeteria out of food now?”
Cassius glanced over toward the cafeteria.
“Probably.”
Gemma frowned. “What now?”
Cassius sighed lightly. “It’s fine, we’ll just wait for dinner.”
Gemma’s tone immediately lifted a notch. “No way! I’ll go up the mountain and see if I can find any fruit.”

Chapter 180. Gemma’s Anger and Mr. Cassius’s Heart
You’re not worried about the danger?”
Gemma waved him off dismissively.
“I’ve lived in the mountains before. Don’t underestimate my survival skills.”
Cassius admitted, “I’ve spent five days and nights in the mountains myself”
Gemma’s jaw dropped
Most people would struggle to survive one night in the mountains.
The temperature drops at night, and the dew can be heavy. People who are hungry and cold often start halluc mating.
A one–mile hike in the mountains was equivalent to running three kilometers on flat ground
But Cassius was no ordinary person–managing vast industries meant he had to be well trained
“Alright, if that’s the case, let’s go together. Maybe we’ll find some wild game if we work together.”
