Chapter 183: He Really Thought He Was Losing It
Gemma and Cassius were coming down from the mountain.
Both of them were covered in dust, their faces streaked with dirt.
But they were both in high spirits.
Cassius, usually as cold as ice, had a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
Gemma carefully hopped down from a big tree, then reached out to pull Cassius down.
Cassius paused for a moment, caught off guard.
He had planned to jump down himself, but…
Gemma was worried he couldn’t make it?
It was just a little over a meter high.
But still, he bent down, took her hand, and gently jumped down with her.
“Yeah, we didn’t catch any wild chickens today, but we got a rabbit.”
“How’d I do?”
Cassius nodded. “Really good.”
Earlier, since Gemma had already eaten, she didn’t have much of the meat.
Cassius had eaten more.
But there was still plenty of rabbit left.
They hadn’t finished it all.
They had planned to bring it back, but Gemma was worried the nuns at the church would chase them off, so they ended up burying it right there.
A bit of a waste.
Gemma was still all smiles, not showing any sign of fatigue from the hike, the rabbit chase, or cooking dinner.
She looked like an elf who had always lived in the mountains, now back in her element.
At the foot of the mountain…
A car sped down the road.
Thea was sitting inside, pale and clutching the seat.
“Mr. Wilson, are you in racing?”
She felt like she was about to throw up.
Marcus didn’t even glance at her, showing no intention of slowing down.
If anything, he took the next curve even faster, heading straight for the church halfway up the hill.
The car finally stopped.
Thea quickly opened the door and leaned against a big rock, vomiting.
Marcus didn’t even spare her a second look, just walked straight into the church.
There was still a crowd of people praying inside.
Marcus scanned the room, desperate to find Gemma.
But after grabbing one woman, then another, neither was her.
He kept searching.
But after a long time…
He still couldn’t find her.
Exhausted, he slumped into a wooden chair.
He felt like he was losing his mind.
Even if he saw Gemma here, what would it change?
The truth was, Gemma never actually wanted to avoid him.
It was just…
Just that fate had run its course.
Even in the same city, they couldn’t meet.
He missed her so much.

But now, thinking about it, what could he even say if he saw her?
Ask about custody of their child?
He could already imagine her slapping him in the face.
His bitter smile deepened.
After a while, Thea found him, her anger boiling over.
“Marcus, if you don’t feel anything for me and don’t want this marriage, just stop wasting both of our time!”
Marcus seemed completely out of it, like the world outside had nothing to do with him.
Thea felt like she’s shouting at a deaf.
Totally pointless.
But she still believed this marriage would be the best option for her, so she bit her lip and held back the anger.
She took a deep breath, standing tall.
“This is a church, so I’ll be honest with you.”
“First of all, I know you’re divorced, and honestly, you don’t really measure up to me.”
“But I don’t care about that. I just want to get my hands on the family power, and you’re my shield.”
“I’ve also looked into it. You’ve got a kid with your ex–wife. That’s fine. I’m not after your money. If you want to leave your wealth to your kid, I don’t
care.”
“And then there’s your first love.”
“I can turn a blind eye to that. Once I get what I need, you and I can divorce, and you can be with whoever you want.”
Thea thought her offer was generous.
No one could turn that down.
But Marcus didn’t seem impressed at all.
“Does it have to be me?”
“You could just find someone else.”
“You want a strong backup? Try William Raven. He can’t even act like a man right now, so he won’t hurt you.”
“Or, right now, Raven’s family would thank you, and you’ll have all the help you need.”
Thea felt her blood boil.
She wanted to slap him so badly.
What a jerk to say such things.
William was just a spoiled brat–if he were that great, there’d be a line of women waiting to marry him.
“Marcus, if you don’t want this deal, just say it clearly. Don’t insult me with that disgusting man.”
“Now I’ve got a clear view of who you really are. Let’s not meet up again.”
Thea felt disgusted.
What was the point of bringing her up here?
And now she had to rely on this jerk to get down the mountain.
Shawn had come here quietly.
He was just curious about what Cassius was up to.
It had only been a day, and he had already asked him to open the mountain’s breeding farm and release wild chickens and rabbits.
Now, over thirty rabbits had gone missing.
They were going to lose so much money.
He wasn’t stalking Cassius; he was here to investigate the missing rabbits.
He hadn’t gone far when he heard shouting.
He paused and looked toward the backyard.
There, a woman in black sportswear was kicking a tree, yelling at the top of her lungs.
“What kind of jerk talks about not forgetting his ex–wife?”
“If you’re so in love, why go for a mistress?”
“Fake love deserves to die!”
‘Break someone’s heart, and you should swallow a thousand needles!”

Shawn froze, stunned.
Being a jerk these days was risky business.
It was almost like she was writing a new set of cruel punishments for the man.
“What are you staring at?”
Thea, still fuming, noticed someone watching her.
She stood tall and glared at him.
When she saw Shawn, her eyes widened.
This guy… was pretty good–looking.
He hit all her sweet spots.
“What are you looking at?”
Her tone had completely changed.
Shawn grinned. “I was just passing by, thought I’d learn a thing or two about torturing someone. You believe me?”
“Of course I do.”
Thea walked up to him confidently.
“You don’t look like the lying type. Anyway, I was just sticking up for a friend.”
“My friend’s dealing with a jerk, and I’m just mad about it.”
“Sorry if I scared you.”
Shawn, who had seen his share of wild scenes, wasn’t exactly scared.
But he still played along, pretending he was a bit shaken by her outburst.
“Yeah, I’m fine. So, what happened to your friend and the jerk?”
Thea looked defeated.
“The jerk left, and so did my friend. Now I’m stuck here, with no way down the mountain.”
She was already thinking about calling Hector for a ride.
“You can ride with me,” Shawn offered.
This woman probably just wanted to get closer to him. He decided to wait and see what she was really after.
But Thea took a step back, her eyes narrowing.
“Here I was thinking you were a good guy, and now you’re trying to kidnap me?”
