This ring was custom–made by Declan for me back then, the only one of its kind in the world.
The assistant swallowed hard, trying to brush it off, “Oh, who would’ve thought Miss Nora was so mischievous, leaving such a valuable thing lying around.”
Despite the obvious lie, Declan breathed a sigh of relief, murmuring, “I knew it couldn’t be her.“”
Turning around, he covered his forehead, feeling a bit dejected, “Nora, are you really that mad at me? Didn’t you say you’d never take the ring off?”
I lowered my gaze with a bitter smile.
At least I kept that promise too.
When he reached the wooden house, he hesitated, taking a deep breath before pushing the door open.
“Nora, I’m here to take you… home.”
Declan’s pupils contracted sharply.
The room was empty, with only a simple bed and table, nowhere to hide anyone.
Most importantly, everything was untouched, as if no one had ever lived there, all covered in dust.
This time, without the assistant saying a word, Declan just snorted coldly, commanding the dozen or so bodyguards who followed, “Search! Even if you have to turn the whole island upside down, dig three feet deep, find Nora!”
Unfortunately, the result was bound to disappoint him.
Until the sun set, everyone was exhausted, but they couldn’t find a trace of me.
The assistant wiped his sweat, reminded him, “Mr. Declan, it’s getting late, and the island’s environment is so poor. Why don’t you find a hotel to stay at while I oversee the search for Miss Nora?”
Watching Declan’s impatience, I just felt a bit ironic.
Watching Declan’s impatience, I just felt a bit ironic.
Now he was anxious.
But during those eight months when he ignored me, leaving me to fend for myself, he didn’t regret a thing.
Declan shook his head, walking back to the small house, somewhat disheartened.
He picked up the bottled water and instant noodles on the table, suddenly his face darkened.
“Quentin, you dare lie to me?”
Quentin was the assistant’s

Hearing Declan speak to him in such a cold tone, he was so scared he couldn’t utter a word.
Declan sneered, “These instant noodles and water have expired. Nora doesn’t live here regularly, right?”
Quentin trembled, stammering, “I… this…”

air.
The next second, the wooden door was pushed open.
Lydia came in, holding the baby, looking travel–weary.
The baby in her arms had evidently cried for a long time, its little face flushed.
She coughed softly, looking at Declan with pleading eyes, “Declan, even if you refuse me, the baby is innocent. He refuses to drink milk without you here, he keeps crying. What should I do?”
She was so slender, looking like she’d topple in the wind, now holding a baby, appearing pitiful and helpless. Anyone would feel compassion.
I didn’t expect Lydia to be so daring, even using her own child as leverage.
The baby’s cries finally brought Declan back to his senses.
He took a deep breath, gently soothing the child, “Give me the baby.”
In no time, the baby quieted down, smacking its lips.
For a moment, the atmosphere in the room felt harmonious.
Lydia nonchalantly blocked Declan, winking at Quentin who stood there dumbfounded.
“Assistant Quentin, I need to breastfeed the little one later… It’s not appropriate for you to stand here, is it?”
In a flash, Quentin understood, nodding vigorously.
I knew Lydia must have some plot, but now I was confined in the wooden house, unable to see the outside.
Lydia acted soft, acting coy, “Declan, rest assured, I won’t cross the line anymore. I’ll help you find Nora and explain everything. She will come back to you.

Declan couldn’t help but feel touched, “Lydia, I’m sorry for putting you through this. You’re so weak, how could you come to such a dangerous place? I’ll send you and the baby to a hotel soon.”
I just watched their picture–perfect family scene, feeling a chill in my heart.
After the baby was fed and content, they finally prepared to leave.
I noticed immediately that my skeleton on the beach was gone.
Apparently, Lydia had Quentin dispose of the evidence.
A subtle sense of despair welled up inside me.
Why am I still wandering in this world, unable to move on?
The next day, Declan awoke in the hotel, shouting, “Nora, don’t leave me-”
He sat up abruptly, waking the baby beside him.
Lydia lay on another bed, sleepily asking, “Declan, what’s wrong?”
Declan’s face looked terrible, gently clutching his heart, “I dreamt something happened to Nora.”
The next second, he called Quentin, “Come here right now, tell me where Nora really went!”
This time, Quentin arrived calm and composed.
He bowed, apologizing, “Sorry, Mr. Declan. You instructed not to disturb Lydia during her pregnancy, so I didn’t dare to tell you. Miss Nora escaped five months ago, knocking out a staff member delivering supplies and then taking a boat.”
Lydia played along, gasping, “Oh! Who would’ve thought Nora ran away long ago, and hasn’t contacted Declan once. How…”
