Chapter 7
Alpha Derick treated that gold–digging woman as if she were the moon and stars. He and his parents had conspired against me for her sake. I let out a bitter laugh- directed at myself, at my own naivety. How utterly pathetic.
Just then, a sleek black car glided to a stop beside me. The window slid down, revealing Alpha Derick’s infuriatingly smug face.
“Baby, we should go,” he said, his voice dripping with warmth and affection.
Rebecca waved at me, her smile oozing with self–satisfaction. “Alpha Clarissa, think it over. If you change your mind, you know where to find me.”

Alpha Derick shot me a cold, dismissive glance before pressing the accelerator. As the car sped away, I caught the tail end of their conversation.
“Baby, what did you say to her?”
Rebecca’s laugh was a purr of triumph. “Oh, nothing much. Just told her to give up. After all, you’d never marry her. The only one you love is me.”
Alpha Derick chuckled, his voice thick with pride. “Of course, baby. You’re the only one I love.”
I smirked. What a picture–perfect, sickeningly sweet couple.
I couldn’t help but wonder how long their love would last once Alpha Derick discovered the truth about Rebecca. That

was a moment I eagerly anticipated.
For the next few days, I threw myself into my work while keeping a close watch on Alpha Derick’s family.
The Red Moon Pack was in deep trouble -financial ruin loomed on the horizon. A massive funding gap had brought projects to a standstill, delayed salaries, and triggered the threat of breach–of–contract penalties. His parents were scrambling to secure loans, but no one was willing to take the risk.
Meanwhile, Alpha Derick had been making frequent trips to the bank. Not to save his pack. Not to fix the mess they were in.
No, he was too busy funding Rebecca’s insatiable appetite for luxury.
She was a bottomless pit of greed. Designer

handbags, glittering jewelry, haute couture- if it came with a hefty price tag, she had to have it. And to keep her happy, Alpha Derick drained the pack’s dwindling resources, took out personal loans, and even borrowed from the bank.
Rebecca wasn’t stupid. As the Beta of the Red Moon Pack, she knew exactly what was happening. She was bleeding him dry, likely planning to vanish the moment she had everything she wanted.
What I didn’t expect was for Alpha Derick to come crawling back to me.
He appeared at my packhouse office, his expression grave, almost remorseful.
“I was wrong about the wedding,” he said stiffly. “I apologize. Let’s start over… just the two of us.”

I nearly laughed in his face.
Did he really think I still wanted him?
Feigning curiosity, I tilted my head. “What about Rebecca? And the pup?”
Seeing that I hadn’t immediately shut him down, his eyes lit up with hope.
“The pup will be raised elsewhere,” he said quickly. “She won’t be in your way. I’ll give Rebecca some money and send her off. She’ll be satisfied.”
I raised an eyebrow. “But I thought you loved her? Only her?”
Alpha Derick scoffed. “I lied to her.” His voice softened, almost pleading. “The truth is, the only person I’ve ever loved is you.”

He took a step closer, his gaze filled with the kind of devotion that might have fooled me
once.
“Clarissa, we grew up together. You’re my fated mate. I know how you feel about me, and I’ve always loved you too. But as an Alpha, I face so many temptations. Sometimes, I… make mistakes.”
He reached for my hand, but I didn’t move.
“But once we’re married, our packs will merge. With you by my side, as my only Luna, I won’t be distracted anymore. I’ll love only you.”
And then, the grand finale of his pitiful performance-
Alpha Derick dropped to one knee.

“Clarissa, marry me. I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you.”
I nearly gagged.
