Chapter 280: I’m So Happy I’m Not Their Real Daughter
Fifty grand per pregnancy.
Just get pregnant, and you get paid.
And all this just to save up money so Drogo can get married!
“Hah. And after he gets a wife? You gonna have her do the same thing? Keep getting pregnant over and over like your”
Miriam froze.
Clearly, she hadn’t thought that far ahead.
But soon she snapped back, pissed.
“Bircht Can’t you think about your brother for once?”
“Huh, weird. Where’s Mr. Lucas? He said he’d draw my blood today, and then I’d be free from this pregnancy. What’s taking so long?”
She shifted slightly.
“Strange, I actually feel kinda strong Joday.”
Before she’d fully woken up, Gemina had given her a small dose of something just enough to keep her going.
JeYour Mr. Lucas? Ite’s been arrested.”
Miriam didn’t process it at first.
“Arrested? By Mr. Read? Ugh, those two are always fighting.”
“But you know, you’ve been looking prettier lately. If you could get pregnant with Mr. Read’s kid, you might get paid even more.”
“I’ll talk to Mr. Laicas about it later.”
Gemma frowned. “Who’s Mr. Read?”
“No clue, but he’s a handsome guy. I’m your mother, would I lie to you?”
“Just be a good girl, help Drogo get a wife, and then we can move to the city.”
Miriam suddenly grinned like she was picturing something nice. “I’ll stay in the city, help Drogo take care of the kids, and live the good life.”
Gemma, “…”
Right then, medical staff rushed in.
Seeing Miriam’s condition, they were visibly shocked.
“She’s worse than the others we’ve seen.”
“Get her out of here first.”
Miriam looked at the doctors, not scared at all. If anything, she seemed excited.
“Oht You’re here to draw my blood?”
“Listen, this pregnancy–it’s from a guy in the next village over. Should be useful, right? Can I get an extra ten grand this time?”
The medical staff exchanged uneasy glances.
Gemma said, “She’s lost her mind.”
The others agreed and quickly carried Miriam out.
Once outside, Miriam instinctively raised a hand to shield her eyes.
Then she took in the scene–police cars, ambulances. Her face twisted.
“What the hell? Are you guys here to arrest people?”
She turned to Gemma, voice sharp. “What did you mean just now? Mr. Lucas got arrested?”
Gemma tilted her head. “Bad guys go to jail. That’s normal, isn’t it? Why are you acting so surprised?”
Miriam’s face flushed with anger. She barely had any strength, but she forced herself to sit up on the stretcher.
“You called the cops?”
“You little bitch! You dare cut off my money?! I was just about to get paid!”
“Why the hell did I ever raise you?! Should’ve let the dogs eat you in the mountains!”
“You ungrateful little leech! Pay me back my fifty grand! I’ll I’ll–I’ll bite you to death!”
She tried to get up, but her rage combined with her weak body sent her collapsing back down.
The medics hurried to get her onto the ambulance.
Gemma rubbed her temples, about to go find Cassius, but

Something felt off.
Just now, Miriam had said she never should’ve raised her she should’ve been left in the mountaine for the dogst
What did that mean?
Her first thought was the usual that Miriam and Dan had wanted to get rid of her because she was a girl.
But before she could dwell on it, a furious shriek cut through her thoughts.
“Let me gol I’ll all hert”
Gemma turned.
Aunt Nancy was being restrained by the police, about to be shoved into a squad car.
When she saw Gemma, she suddenly lost it, eyes burning with hatred.
Gemma frowned. That was strange.
Aunt Nancy had never acted this hostile toward her before.
She started to step closer, but the police blocked her for safety reasons,
Nancy was shoved into the back of the car, but she managed to roll down the window, baring her teeth like a rabid dog.
“You ruined our business! You’ll die a miserable death!”
“No wonder you were abandoned in the mountains! You’re a cursel A damn curset”
“That idiot Dan, why the hell did he take you in?! I swear, I’ll kill you, you rotten luck magnet!”
The window was forcibly rolled up. The police car roared to life and drove off.
Nancy’s voice faded into the distance.
But Gemma felt like a storm had just crashed into her cars.
Abandoned?
Dan and the Kelestines… took her in?
What kind of sick joke was this?
The Kelestines were selfish to the core. Why the hell would they adopt a child and burden themselves?
Yet, no matter how absurd it sounded….
Her mind kept replaying Miriam and Nancy’s words, stringing them together.
If she really wasn’t a Kelestine by blood-
Then that meant… Her miserable childhood made sense.
P
It wasn’t because she was inherently worthless. She had just been in the wrong place, with the wrong people.
Most importantly…
She wouldn’t have to feel disgusted with herself anymore.
She wouldn’t have to hate the Kelestine blood running through her veins.
“Gemma.”
Marcus had been searching for her everywhere, but the police wouldn’t let him wander around.
Finally, he found her!!
He ran over, quick on his feet.
He seemed to have learned a trick lately–he always got straight to the point.
“Drogo’s taken care of. He won’t show up to piss you off ever again.”
“Oh, and the rest of the Kelestines? I’ll make sure they pay for what they did to you.”
Gemma looked at him.
And then, she smiled.
Marcus took it as a good sign. Excited, he opened his mouth-
“Gemma, I-”
“Marcus, you know what? I’m actually really happy right now.”
“Yeah? Me too, Gemma!”
“So don’t make me slap you while I’m in a good mood.”
Marcus, “!!”
Gemma’s smile turned sharp.
“Move!”

She shoved him aside and strode toward Cassiu
Cassius had just finished coordinating things with N.I. City and was heading back to find her.
The moment he spotted her and Marcus together, his expression darkened.
But he didn’t say a word. He just stood there, his dark eyes locked onto them.
Then, to his surprise, Gemma ran straight toward him.
Fast.
Like she couldn’t wait.
His icy expression melted in an instant.
“What’s the rush?”
“Cassius, I have good news.”
“Yeah
Gemma took a few deep breaths, trying to steady her pounding heart.
“I don’t think I’m really a Kelestine.”
Cassius didn’t look shocked. Almost like he’d expected this.
Gemma let out a breathy laugh. “You know what? I’m so damn happy.”
“I’m not related to those bloodsucking parasites.”
“My childhood wasn’t miserable because of who I was–it was just because I wasn’t with my real mother.”
“It’s not confirmed yet, but I don’t even care. I wanna believe it’s true.”
Cassius gently placed his hands on her shoulders.
His voice, usually so cold, was softer than the spring breeze.
“Yes, and I’ll find out the truth for you.”
