Chapter 41
Argon.
We mashed down the hallway to Sapphire’s room, our feet pounding against the cold linoleum floor. I could hear Leah’s ragged breaths beside me. When we reached her door, I felt my heart sink. Nurses and doctors were already flooding the small room, rushing around with hurried urgency. “What’s happening? Leah cried out, trying to push her way through. I grabbed her arm, holding her back, but I felt the same frantic need to see Sapphire, to know if she was okay.
I caught a glimpse of her through the crowd. She was thrashing wildly on the bed, her arms swinging and her body contorting in spasms. The IV was ripped from her hand, blood dripping down her wrist and staining the sheets a deep red. Her eyes were open–ton open–but they were empty, like
she wasn’t even here with us.
“Oh my God.” I whispered, Frozen in place. The sound of her screams filled the room “No, please Father! Stop! Please, don’t” She was wailing, each word tearing through the air like a jagged knife
Leah choked out a sob beside me “Sapphire, it’s okay, we’re here,” she cried. “It’s okay, it’s us, we’re here!”
Ban Sapphire didn’t seem to hear her. Her cries grew louder, more frantic “Have mercy, please! I’m sorry!” Her body jerked violently, and the doctor struggled to hold her down.
“What’s going on lasked one of the minies.
“She’s having a severe panic attack, it’s a traumatic resume to her past,” the nurse replied quickly, eyes never leaving Sapphire. “We need to sedate
her.”
I watched, helpless, as a doctor prepared a syringe, moving toward Sapphire with calm urgency, Her cries were guttural now, raw, and I felt every word in my bones. “Please spare me. Father, no more…”
Leah collapsed beside me, tears streaming down her face. She reached out, as if she could touch Sapphire through the crowd, could pull her back from wherever her mind had taken her. “I’m so sorry, Sapphire, Leal whispered. “I’m so, so sorry”
I wanted to do something, anything, but I was paralyzed, my feet glued to the spot. I watched in borror as Sapphire’s body convulsed once more before suddenly going still. Her eyes were still open, but she wan‘ seeing us. I couldn’t even tell if she was still breathing
“Get that sedative in, now one of the doctors shouted. A nurse handed him the syringe, and he quickly injected it into Sapphire’s arm. For a moment, nothing happened. The room was tease, holding its breath. Then, slowly, her body began to relax, the tension draining away like water from a cricked dam
Her eyes uttered closed, and her breathing evened out. Leah’s sobs filled the sudden silence as she collapsed against me, her body shaking, I could only area Sapphire, my heart still racing, feeling the terror slowly release its grip on my chest. I had never felt so helpless in my life.
Experiencing it firsthand made me feel worse than I ever have before. I ran a hand down my face to keep my expression hidden.
Leah sniffed before walking closer to Sapphire, she leaned down and pressed a kiss on her forehead whispering something to her that I didn’t catch She glared at me before walking away, probably to the arms of her mate for contior. The doctor shook his head with disappointment as he approached me.
“Can Italk to you, Alpha“” he asked in a hard voice
doctor
I nodded, sparing a glance at Sapphire. I followed the doctor to the hallway and he turned to me
“With all due respect, Alphs, I think you should stay away from her”
“Excuse me?”
“She seems to be getting injured one way or the other each time you are around her. I have never seen a wolf with such atmumatic payt and marks on her body. She cannot interact with her wolf because of how weak she is and it’s killing her.”
“What you are saying, it’s my faul she is like that!” I asked,
He nodded, “Yes and I would recommend you stay away from her till she gets better, will give her a herbal tea to help heal ber inside, her wolf especially. She needs proper rest so if you are working her to the bone then Lungest you get a maid,”
“Do you realize you are talking to your Alpha this way?” I wamed
“Yes, I realize that Jam her doctor and I have to look out for my patient even though you wish her dead,” he said firmly.
I was too shell–shocked to defend my when realized he was right. Everything I had done up to this time has led to her being in the hospital. I rejected her, punished her and it still wasn’t enough for me.
I looked up to apologize to the doctor when I realized I was standing by myself, I sighed and headed back to her room to check on her.
1 paused at the doorway when I saw the No Entry sign pasted there. I deserved it, I guess. Nobody deserved the kind of treatment she got from her faber who was supposed to love her, from me, her supposed soul mate.
I looked up just as rushed footsteps sounded and I came to a stop in front of me, he was breathing hard,
“Alpha, where is she? I heard she was brought here,”
I gritted my teeth, what the hell was be doing here?
