Chapter 253: Gemma Never Tried to Please Anyone
The hospital room went dead silent.
Kaiya had already expected this outcome.
After all, the Doltons were the absolute top in S City. Even an idiot would know they were worth cozying up to.
She quickly adjusted her expression, looking a little guilty.
Yvonne didn’t care much about any of this.
She knew perfectly well that even if Gemma showed up, there was no way she’d look after her.
The one who reacted the most was Brian.
The moment he heard those words, he shot up from his seat.
He knew for a fact Gemma wasn’t on duty today.
The Integrated Medicine Department had barely any patients–just one inpatient case, and a whole team of specialists was already on it.
There was no reason for Gemma to come back just for that.
His hands clenched involuntarily before he sat back down, straightening his posture like he was waiting for something important.
He just wanted to see how Gemma would react.
Would she thank him? Say he’d worked hard?
He pressed a hand to his chest, trying to calm the wild thumping of his heart.
“Brian, have some water.”
Kaiya, despite being a patient, was almost fully recovered. She grabbed a cup and handed it to him.
Brian snapped out of his daze, quickly taking it from her, his attitude noticeably warmer.
“You’re still injured. Don’t worry about this stuff.”
Kaiya lowered her gaze.
Her heart was pounding.
When he took the cup, his hand brushed hers.
It felt like an electric shock, a jolt that spread through her entire body, making every cell come alive.
“It’s nothing,” she said, suppressing her excitement, her voice slightly strained. “I’m pretty much fine now. No need to worry.”
Before Brian could respond, Ashton sighed and cut in, exasperated.
“You don’t have to push yourself just to make things easier for Gemma.”
“She’s a doctor. And a surgeon, no less. Taking care of you is nothing for her.”
Kaiya’s voice dropped.
“I can take care of myself.”
“No need to act tough.” Ashton walked over and patted her shoulder lightly. “She’s your sister. Looking after you is only right.”
Right then, Yvonne spoke up at the worst possible moment.
“So… it’s been twenty minutes. Did Gemma get lost?”
The room fell silent again.
Ashton frowned, his expression darkening.
From the parking lot to here, the elevator ride took ten minutes at most.
She’d worked in this hospital for years–she could probably find her way blindfolded.
Unless… she just didn’t want to come?
No.
He immediately dismissed the thought.
Gemma wasn’t stupid. She should be jumping at the chance to tie herself to the Doltons.
She wouldn’t be that clueless.
Unless something happened on the way?
His chest tightened at the thought, and he instinctively wanted to check.
At that moment.
Brian was already up and heading for the door.

“I’ll go see. She might’ve run into something.”
Hospitals were unpredictable.
If Gemma had gotten caught up in some kind of patient dispute, he needed to be there.
Ashton had the same thought.
He never really cared about this niece of his.
It was just family ties–thicker than water, hard to ignore.
But now, even he felt a little uneasy.
He was about to follow when Kaiya grabbed his sleeve.
“Uncle Ash, I think my wound…. it kinda hurts.”
She was young.
If she cried over the pain, no one would blame her.
Instead, she’d get even more sympathy and attention.
Usually, Ashton gave her whatever she wanted.
But this time-
Instead of comforting her, his eyes stayed fixed on the door, waiting for Brian to bring Gemma back.
“Uncle? Uncle?”
Kaiya tugged harder, shaking his sleeve.
Ashton snapped out of his thoughts and looked down.
“What is it?”
Kaiya, “_”
Was he seriously ignoring her when she was sitting here, looking all pitiful with tears in her eyes?
“It just hurts. Uncle, when will I get better?”
Ashton pulled his sleeve free. “Just rest. You’ll be fine soon.”
Kaiya, “_”
She turned to Yvonne for help.
Yvonne took the cue and spoke up.
“Kaiya, don’t blame yourself. Look, your mood’s down, and now even your wound is acting up.”
“This whole accident–wasn’t it because she bullied you?”
That got Ashton’s attention.
“What do you mean, Ms. Yvonne?”
Yvonne sighed dramatically. “We went to Beasleys for a partnership. Not for me—I don’t need anything but Kaiya wanted to case the burden on your family, so she went to ask Elizabeth for help.”
“But who would’ve thought? Elizabeth’s got a good relationship with Mr. Chavez, yet she refused.”
“At first, we didn’t understand why. Later, we found out Gemma was there too.”
“Before we even arrived, she’d already badmouthed us to Elizabeth.”
“Mr. Ashton, you know the Beasleys and the Raven family are close…”
She rubbed her temples, looking thoroughly exhausted.
“Beasleys?”
“Hal”
Ashton’s face turned ice–cold.
Without hesitation, he called Zak. “Teach Beasleys a lesson.”
He hung up and turned back, his voice soft and reassuring.
“Alright, don’t worry. If Beasleys thinks they can mess with you, they’re dead wrong.”
Kaiya, however, didn’t feel the least bit happy.
Because Ashton was willing to go after Beasleys, he hadn’t said a word about punishing Gemma.
It was like he was deliberately letting her off easy.
That had never happened before. Not in her entire life.
“Alright, I’ll listen to you. But Uncle, the Beasleys‘ matriarch has it hard too Just warn them, don’t make things too difficult.”

Ashton nodded. “Got it. She’ll be coming over to apologize soon. As long as she has the right attitude, we’ll let it go.”
Elizabeth Beasley?
One of the most powerful figures in N.L.. City’s elite circles.
Someone like her… apologizing in person?
Not a chance, which meant Beasleys was about to suffer, hard.
By then, Elizabeth would realize just how powerful the Doltons were–and she’d have no choice but to go to Mr. Chavez for help.
“You’re the best, Uncle.”
Yvonne rolled her eyes internally.
Somehow, the conversation had turned into a whole thing about Beasleys.
It had been over half an hour, and no one was even mentioning the fact that Gemma still hadn’t shown up.
Integrated Medicine Department.
Gemma had everything ready. She coordinated with the team, making sure the Chavez kid was sent to the lab.
The ambulance was waiting downstairs, fully equipped in case of emergencies.
After double–checking everything, she hurried toward the elevator–only to run straight into Brian.
“Gemma!”
“Brian, you on shift? Well, good luck with that.” She didn’t even stop, barely sparing him a glance before turning to leave.
