Chapter 255: Slap on Face! Gemma Didn’t Give a Damn
Sunlight trickled down.
It softly landed on her hair.
When she lifted her gaze….
The light gathered in her eyes.
It shimmered like ripples on water.
“Cassius, how’d you know exactly what I like to eat?”
She smiled, taking the paper bag from his hands. One glance inside, and her smile deepened.
“Have you eaten yet? Want to join me?”
Cassius reached out, brushing a loose strand of hair from her forehead.
The movement was smooth, effortless-
As if he was just being considerate.
Except his fingertips were calloused.
Rough against her skin.
Sending a soft, itchy tingle through her.
She instinctively raised a hand to her forehead.
“You know, they say if someone keeps touching your forehead, you’ll never grow taller.”
Cassius smirked. “And don’t you always say, ‘Ignore those bullshits“?”
Gemma, “…Wow, you’re a fast learner. Congratulations! You’ve graduated!”
Cassius pointed at a small building nearby. “It’s windy out here. Let’s eat inside.”
“Mm.”
Gemma turned and walked ahead. Cassius followed right behind.
Her shadow landed right at his chest.
Cassius pressed a hand to his heart, his steps faltering slightly.
Inside, a group of researchers were deep in discussion, completely immersed in their work.
Gemma fit right in, chatting and debating with them like she belonged.
Cassius just sat quietly off to the side, watching her speak with confidence and ease.
Then, Brooke slipped in, lowering his voice.
“Hagan’s looking for you.“;
Cassius stood up and exited through the back door, making sure to close it behind him so no one would be disturbed.
Hagan, the lawyer, was already waiting outside. The moment Cassius stepped out, he rushed forward.
“Mr. Cassius, I found evidence of Ashton’s shady dealings with Doltons.”
Ashton was a tech prodigy, born with a talent for math. Doltons had spared no expense grooming him since childhood.
He racked up gold medals in science competitions, got fast–tracked into the country’s top university, and even competed internationally. By the time he was in college, he was already a rising star.
But after graduation, he went quiet.
It wasn’t until a year after Gemma’s mother disappeared that he suddenly re–emerged and started his own business.
Brooke scratched his head, still not getting it. “Wait… are you saying Ashton Dolton stole Ms. Kelestine’s mother’s research?”
If they were siblings, why not just ask for it? Why resort to theft?
In his mind, he was already picturing a full–blown rich family feud.
Hagan shook his head.
“Ms. Kelestine’s mother was a plant scientist. She dabbled in other fields, but she wasn’t exactly a match for a tech genius.”
Brooke, “??? So what?
He ruffled his hair, while Cassius remained perfectly calm, not even rushing Hagan to explain faster.
Hagan, ever reliable, continued.
“Back in college, Ashton had a girlfriend. After graduation, he planned to confess to her…. but she accepted someone else’s proposal instead.”

“Not long after, she got married.”
“That ‘quiet period of his? It wasn’t because he was heartbroken. He was plotting how to get rid of her husband.”
“And then..”
Hagan’s expression turned a little strange.
“He played the hero, ‘rescued‘ her, and set her up in Silver Mountain Villa in S City. He’s been keeping her there ever since.”
Brooke, “That’s it?”
Hagan shot him a look. “What were you expecting?”
Was this not already some next–level villainous mastermind plot?
Brooke, “Yeah, that’s pretty messed up.”
Hagan rolled his eyes and continued.
“We’ve tracked down the woman. Do you want us to tell her the truth?”
Cassius thought for a moment.
“Keep an eye on her. I’ll decide when the time comes.”
“Understood.”
Hagan nodded and left to make arrangements.
Brooke, still puzzled, asked, “Mr. Cassius, why not just bring her out and let the media expose Doltons for the scumbags they are?”
Cassius was in a rare good mood today and actually answered.
“Is William still making headlines?”
Brooke instinctively shook his head. “Nah, some celebrity gossip pushed him out of the spotlight days ago. No one’s talking about him anymore.”
Then it clicked.
Ohhh, I get it. Even if we expose Ashton, it won’t last.
With the news cycle, he’d only be dragged for a week, tops.”
“Not worth it.”
Dragging the woman out would mean tearing down Doltons‘ defenses and ensuring her safety, all for a scandal that wouldn’t even leave a lasting impact on Ashton.
What a waste.
Cassius found Brooke’s frustrated face amusing.
“Then why aren’t you brainstorming the next way to screw over William?”
Brooke’s thoughts snapped back to reality.
“Right! Don’t worry, Mr. Cassius. I’ll make sure they don’t get off easy!”
With that, he bolted off to handle it.
Cassius went to a small clinic. Seeing that the child’s condition was stable, he asked the doctor for a full update.
That afternoon-
The lab erupted into cheers.
They did it.
The research was a success! Next came the pharmaceutical stage–Gemma’s element. Without missing a beat, she got to work.
Meanwhile, at the hospital-
Ashton finally met with the director.
The man controlled the most advanced medical resources in N.L. City and was highly respected.
Even Ashton, who was used to calling the shots in S City, had to play by his rules here.
And after waiting so long, he was in no mood for pleasantries. He got straight to the point.
The director frowned.
“I didn’t assign Dr. Kelestine that much work.”
Ashton let out a cold laugh. “Last night, she went out with an ambulance. You think I don’t know?”
The director immediately called to verify.
After hanging up, he gave Ashton a look that was hard to describe.
“The Integrated Medicine Department has only one critical patient- the youngest child of the Chavez family. He needed to be transferred last
