Chapter 265: Take a Look in the Mirror and Try Evolving Into a Human
The next day.
Gemma took Noah to school like usual.
At the kindergarten entrance, she spotted Alijah, who she hadn’t seen in a while.
But this time, there was something different-
Margaret had personally brought him.
Margaret had always looked down on this kindergarten. She wouldn’t have bothered to drop her kid off here before.
*Gemma, don’t be scared. I’ll protect you.”
Noah immediately stepped in front of her.
He was glaring at Margaret like she was some kind of villain.
Margaret hadn’t expected to run into Gemma either.
But since they were already face–to–face, she wasn’t going to avoid her.
Instead, she walked straight ov
over.
Gemma patted Noah’s shoulder lightly. “Be good, Noah. Go inside with your teacher.”
Noah hesitated, clearly unwilling.
Gemma bent down and flicked his nose.
“Relax. I can handle myself. And don’t forget–I’ve got those bodyguards your uncle assigned to me.”
That finally reassured Noah.
“Alright, then.”
He lifted his wrist and wiggled his watch.
Then he pointed at the one on hers.
Gemma chuckled.
“I know, I know. Life–saving device. Got it.”
Satisfied, Noah grabbed his teacher’s hand and walked inside, glancing back every few steps.
Margaret gave Gemma a once–over.
“Looks like you’ve been doing well for yourself.”
Ever since cutting ties with the Wilson family, Gemma’s complexion had improved–her skin was fair and glowing, making her look more radiant
than ever.
Her outfit was casual, but Margaret had been a high–society woman long enough to recognize luxury. The fabric of those clothes wasn’t something ordinary people could even get their hands on.
A flicker of resentment flashed through Margaret’s eyes.
She already knew about the Doltons.
A mysterious informant had tipped her off.
By the time she rushed over, the whole reunion had already happened. Word was, someone had even been taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
At first, she had been thrilled, thinking Gemma must have screwed everything up.
Who would’ve thought–Gemma had actually saved someone.
She’d already sent people to feel out the Doltons.
At first, they were cold and dismissive, wanting nothing to do with her
But yesterday, Jonathan had unexpectedly reached out and set up a meeting for this afternoon.
Margaret had her own theories.
The Doltons‘ initial rejection had probably been because they believed Gemma’s claims about the Wilsons mistreating her.
Now that they had done their own investigation, they must have found out that Gemma had been married to Marcus for years and even had a child
with him.
Family elders, no matter how prestigious, would usually compromise for the sake of a grandchild.
Margaret had also made up her mind.
Out of all the women she had tried introducing to Marcus, Thea had been the only one she actually liked.
Too bad Thea didn’t know what was good for her, repeatedly turning down Margaret’s invitations.

As for the Merrick girl, she was decent, but her attitude toward Marcus was unacceptable.
The Merricks had been acting strangely, and Margaret didn’t want to keep chasing them.
Now, Gemma’s family reunion was the perfect opportunity.
All she had to do was put on the act of a good mother–in–law, and the Doltons wouldn’t make a fuss anymore.
Gemma, as the Doltons‘ daughter, was now a perfect match for Marcus.
Margaret could finally put her worries to rest.
“Seeing you doing well puts my heart at ease.”
Gemma let out a laugh. “Wow, that almost sounds like you were ever actually worried about me.”
“Oh wait–you were. You were worried I’d thrive and make you look bad.”
Margaret’s face stiffened.
But with Gemma’s newfound status, she had no choice but to swallow her pride.
“Fine, I’ll admit it. I didn’t see your potential before.
But to be fair, you never wanted me to.
Besides, weren’t you the one who insisted you only wanted to take care of Max and help him regain his sight?
Then you suddenly decided to start working. Of course, I was upset when you went back on your word.”
Gemma stared at her in disbelief.
“Wow. I’ve always heard that some people have a talent for twisting the truth, but I never really believed it–until now.
I honestly want to interview you. How do you manage to turn yourself from the villain into the victim? Doesn’t your conscience hurt?”
She paused, then smirked. “Oh wait, I forgot–you don’t have one.”
Margaret’s blood pressure shot up.
“I’m trying to have a civil conversation with you!”
“And I’m not interested,” Gemma replied flatly. “We’re not even the same species. The gap between us is just too big.” She sneered. “You should watch out when you go outside–zoo staff might be looking for you.”
Margaret, “!!!”
She was livid.
She had been raised to be a refined, elegant lady.
She had learned piano, chess, painting, horseback riding–everything but how to argue like this.
In the past, she could use her status as a mother–in–law to silence Gemma.
But now, that didn’t work anymore.
“Gemma, I know you still resent me.
But we can’t go on like this forever. I’m not standing in your way anymore.
If you want to reconcile with Max, I’ll fully support you.”
Gemma looked around, confused.
“Huh. Weird. There’s barely any wind today, so why did your IQ just blow away?”
‘Gemma Kelestine!”
“Let me make this crystal clear,” Gemma said, watching Margaret’s frustration build.
It wasn’t exactly revenge for all the humiliation she had suffered.
But it was definitely satisfying.
“Marcus and I are divorced. Legally. With papers and everything.
Get back together with him? Sure–when N.L. City’s volcano erupts. Got it?”
She turned to leave, not wasting another second.
Margaret blocked her path.
“You’re just saying that because you’re angry.
But don’t forget–you’re not just yourself anymore. You represent your family now.
Do you really think you have the say about your marriage?”
Her tone shifted back to arrogance.
“Honestly, I shouldn’t even be explaining this to someone as short–sighted as you.
You just don’t understand.

But don’t worry–once you’re back in the Wilson family, I’ll personally teach you how to behave properly.”
Gemma frowned.
Something about this felt off.
Margaret was a wily old bird, much more cunning than her son.
She never made random shots.
She must heard some news.
She had said “represent your family“…
What family?
Could it be… the Doltons?
Realization hit. The Doltons weren’t just here for a simple reunion.
They had probably been talking to Margaret behind her back this whole time.
She needed to test the waters.
Gemma smirked.
“Oh, I know how to deal with people. I just can’t be bothered with you. Maybe try looking in a mirror and evolving into a human first?”
