Chapter 269: Giving Her a Taste of Her Own Medicine
Margaret was so furious she nearly blacked out on the spot.
Psychiatric evaluation?
Gemma was out of line.
She didn’t even take her seriously!
Everything she just said completely ignored!
“Gemma, you pushed me to this!”
Gemma responded with an innocent smile. “I didn’t push u at all. But if you prefer neurology, I can arrange that too.”
Margaret, “…”
She was about to explode.
“I tried to talk to you nicely because of the Doltons. But since you don’t appreciate it, don’t blame me for using other means!”
Seeing Margaret completely lose it, Gemma felt nothing but satisfaction.
Margaret had always thrown her weight around, using her seniority to make Gemma’s life miserable.
And for the sake of Marcus and Alijah, Gemma had put up with it.
She used to believe keeping the peace would bring harmony to the family. But all it did was make Margaret push harder, convinced she was easy to bully.
Now that she was divorced, she didn’t have to put up with it anymore.
Of course, Margaret couldn’t handle the shift. Breaking down was inevitable.
Gemma couldn’t help but chuckle.
“So, you do lose control. You do have moments when you don’t care about appearances.”
Margaret froze.
The words she had prepared, the ones ready to burst out, got stuck in her throat.
She coughed, her face turning red.
The elegant neck she had always been so proud of–now strained, veins bulging like they were about to burst.
“That’s not a good look,” Gemma mocked, mimicking Margaret’s past condescending tone. “The other families might look down on u.”
She crossed her arms, exaggerating the mockery.
“Come on, bow and say, Thank you for the lesson.‘
Oh, right! You look a bit scary right now. People might think you weren’t raised properly.
Hurry up and smile.
Why aren’t you smiling?
Don’t tell me you don’t know how?
Still not smiling? Something on your mind?”
Margaret’s expression darkened as memories flooded back.
When Gemma first married Marcus, she endured everything.
Later, when Marcus regained his eyesight, she became even more humble.
Margaret had looked down on her, constantly making things difficult–forcing her to kneel, letting the servants mock and humiliate her,
Back then, Gemma had endured it all. But in her eyes, there had always been something–like a wild cub, fierce and unsettling.
Those taunts had been meant to break her, to make her submit completely.
Who would’ve thought? The words Margaret once threw at Gemma had come back like a boomerang–hitting her right in the face.
Margaret staggered, nearly falling.
She barely managed to grab onto a chair, stopping herself from collapsing in utter disgrace.
“Gemma, just you wait!”
Her authority had been challenged. She’d been humiliated. Her pride couldn’t take it.
So, she dropped all pretenses.
“I won’t let you off the hook!”
Gemma shrugged. “If you really lose your mind, I might be the one performing the surgery. Whether you ‘let me off kinda depends on how steady my hands are, don’t you think?”

Margaret’s voice shot up. “You’re cursing me?”
Gemma grinned. “Obviously. Am I not making it clear enough?”
Margaret nearly choked on her own rage.
Her hand shook as she pointed at Gemma.
“Fine! Fine! Just wait!”
She turned and stormed off, teeth clenched.
Gemma kept her polite, professional smile. “Watch your step. Wouldn’t want your blood pressure acting up.”
Outside, Margaret actually stumbled.
Her head buzzed.
Her blood felt like it was rushing straight to her brain, veins ready to pop.
Her heart trembled.
Her face paled.
But she refused to show weakness in front of Gemma, forcing herself to walk away with whatever dignity she had left.
After Margaret left, Gemma sat in thought.
What was Doltons trying to pull?
She was already divorced. So why drag the Wilsons into this?
Just then, Cassius’s car pulled up downstairs to pick her up.
She locked away her confidential documents, packed up, and headed down.
Sliding into the passenger seat, she raised an eyebrow at Cassius, dressed in all black.
“Just got off work?”
Cassius answered without a change in expression. “Mm. Convenient timing.”
Gemma glanced at Brooke, who was driving.
Brooke kept his eyes glued to the road, saying nothing.
“Why didn’t you pick up Noah first?” she asked while fastening her seatbelt.
Cassius’s tone was casual. “You were closer.”
Brooke nearly rolled his eyes.
Right. Like that was the reason. They’d rushed over the moment they heard Margaret was there.
By the time they arrived, Margaret was already walking out–staggering, looking like she’d just received a terminal diagnosis.
Brooke was sure Gemma hadn’t suffered a loss in that conversation.
But Mr. Cassius? He wasn’t convinced.
He even sent someone to follow Margaret, just in case Gemma needed revenge.
Alas…
This was what they called….
To love is to constantly wonder if we’re giving enough, isn’t it?
Gemma, unaware of all this, didn’t think much of it.
“Oh, by the way, Margaret came by today. She’s working with Doltons now.
I’m not surprised they’re in business together. What I don’t get is–why do they want me back at the Wilsons?”
At that, Cassius’s expression darkened.
“That’s never happening.”
His voice was firm.
The air in the car instantly turned heavy.
Brooke shuddered.
Why did it feel like Mr. Cassius was ready to commit murder?
Gemma, however, didn’t notice a thing. She simply nodded, serious.
“Yeah, you’re right. I feel the same way. I got divorced. There’s no going back.”
Cassius’s expression softened slightly.
“Mm.

The tense atmosphere in the car eased.
Brooke, the poor bystander, “…”
Soon, Cassius got a call.
After listening, he was silent for a moment before saying,
“Jarrett Dolton’s here.”
Gemma, “???”
It took her a second to process.
Uncle Jarry. A big name in the legal world.
If he wanted Ashton out quickly, he’d find a way–bending the law just enough to make it work.
“They want to control me. Keep me quiet.”
She was the one who had reported Ashton.
If she dropped the case, Doltons could strike a deal with the hospital, and suddenly, Ashton would go from hacker to…
Twisting the truth.
Disgusting.
“Robin’s not an idiot,” Cassius said, sensing her frustration.
“He won’t let them treat the law like a joke.”
“I’ve already sent Hagan to handle it. Don’t worry.”
Gemma rubbed her temples, unconvinced.
Ashton hadn’t actually harmed the hospital. They might just throw some money at the problem and walk away clean.
cybersecurity consultant.
