Chapter 274: Knowing That Kid’s Identity, Chaos Ensues
A sudden jolt shot through Gemma’s chest, like an electric shock.
Her heartbeat spiked.
Her face burned.
A deep blush spread across her cheeks.
She quickly turned away.
“Ahem… Cassius, you still haven’t said if you’ll teach me or not.”
Cassius’s low voice brushed against her ears, slow and steady.
“Of course. I’ll get everything you need. Don’t worry.”
Gemma pressed a hand to her chest.
It actually hurt a little–her heart was thumping so hard it might crack a rib.
“Mm.”
Up in the driver’s seat, Brooke was practically bursting with excitement.
If he weren’t holding the wheel, he’d be doing a victory dance.
This was better than Christmas!
Of course, he had to keep his mouth shut.
No way was he spilling the truth–that the Frostspire Grand Lodge’s banquet was actually Ms. Kelestine’s birthday party.
That Mr. Cassius had invited a bunch of big shots just for her. That he’d even custom–ordered jewelry…
In short-
This was a queen’s birthday celebration.
And Ms. Kelestine was going to love it.
Back at the manor, Gemma barely had time to step inside before Noah dragged her off. It took a while to get the kid to sleep, but once he was out, she strolled back outside, heading for her little guesthouse.
Didn’t expect to see Cassius still in the living room.
“You’re not asleep yet?”
She sat down, poured herself a glass of water. “Noah’s doing fine. Hardly has nightmares anymore, and his mood’s been a lot better.
So whatever you’re worrying about–it’ll never happen.”
Cassius nodded.
“What about you?”
Gemina blinked. “Me?”
Cassius wasn’t the best with words. He thought for a moment, then finally spoke.
“At the hospital… don’t take everything on yourself.”
“Oh, I’m just swamped because the surgery went well. Got a lot of paperwork to handle.”
“Every surgery’s a learning experience. I’ve got another one tomorrow-
She paused.
Something about her next patient’s situation was… odd.
“The kid’s condition is manageable, but the parents? Weird.”
Cassius looked up, dark eyes locked on her thoughtful expression. “Weird how?”
Normally, parents are either grateful or desperate. They want you to save their kid, so they’re extra nice to the doctor.”
Gemma had seen it plenty of times.
She even did pre–surgery counseling for cases like that.
“But this Christine? She acts like Lowe her. Like it’s my job to do the surgery, no questions asked
Cassius’s voice was calm
“I happened to dig up some information on ber. And the kid. Want to hear it?”
Gemma stiffened.

“Criminal record?”
Cassius shook his head.
She let out a breath.
Sure, doctors were supposed to treat everyone, even criminals, but that didn’t mean it was easy.
As long as it wasn’t something like that, she could handle it.
“Then don’t tell me.”
She made up her mind quickly.
“The surgery’s tomorrow. I can’t switch out now.”
“No matter what you found, it’ll just distract me.”
“My mood affects my work.”
“Tell me at the banquet.”
She grinned.
“I’ll hear it then.”
She stood, ready to leave.
“I’m turning in. You should sleep too. See you tomorrow.”
And with that, she walked off.
Brooke stepped inside right after, looking puzzled.
“Mr. Cassius, why didn’t you just tell her?”
If he’d just said it upfront, Ms. Kelestine would already know.
Cassius shook his head.
“Back then, everyone feared me. But she still saved Noah.”
“She’s a doctor. When someone needs help, she doesn’t stop to weigh the cost.”
Brooke was stunned.
Guess he’s the narrow–minded one here.
The next morning, Gemma headed to work.
Didn’t even make it there before her car got rear–ended.
The driver told her to go on ahead while he handled the accident.
Fine. She’d grab a cab. But just as she was about to hail one-
Jarrett’s car pulled up beside her. “Need a ride?” he asked with a pleasant smile.
Gemma finally flagged down a taxi.
“I don’t trust you. It’s safer to rely on myself.”
Didn’t last long.
Her cab got rear–ended too.
As she stepped out, ready to find another ride–Jarrett appeared again.
If she still didn’t realize something was off, she’d have to be an idiot.
“What the hell do you want?”
She was exasperated. “You’re a grown man. A lawyer. Can you stop acting like a child?”
Jarrett kept smiling. “You should’ve figured it out by now. When I set my mind on something, I get it.”
“If you won’t negotiate, I’ll have to take more… drastic measures.”
Gemina groaned.
She was arguing with a brick wall. Jarrett was impossible.
Just as she debated whether to take his car or risk another cab, a different car pulled up beside her. Cassius.
“Get in
She didn’t hesitate. Opened the door. Slid in. Buckled up.
Cassius drove steady–never too fast, but every turn, every overtake, was precise,
Several cars tried to cut them off.
Cassius dodged them all.

By the time they pulled up at the hospital, it was 8:30.
Still had an hour and a half before surgery.
Plenty of time.
But Gemma didn’t get out right away. She leaned back in her seat.
“I think I know who that kid is.”
Cassius waited.
“But…”
A slow smile spread across her face.
“Jarrett’s in such a rush to stop me.”
“Which means, if I save this kid, the whole Dolton family is about to be thrown into chaos.”
The thought alone made her so happy.
“That means I get some peace for a while.”
Cassius glanced at her. “Then do it. No matter what happens, you have me.”
Gemma stretched, unbuckled her seatbelt, and pushed open the door.
“Cassius, you are officially the hottest man alive.”
She gave him a big thumbs–up.
Then bolted for the hospital.
Cassius rested one hand on the steering wheel, watching her go. Slowly, a smirk tugged at his lips.
Inside the hospital, Gemma went straight into surgery.
Christine was a little surprised.
Which also meant, she wasn’t some ordinary doctor.
This proved she’d made the right call.
She still didn’t understand why, despite their failed attempts to stop Gemma, the kid swap had gone so smoothly.
But whatever.
As long as things went her way, that was all that mattered.
Right before surgery, she placed a hand on the wall for support, looking at Gemma with sincere eyes.
‘Dr. Kelestine, I’m counting on you. Please–save my child.”
