Chapter 287: Ms. Kelestine Is Single
Marcus stopped in his tracks.
He turned to look at the bodyguard.
“I’m Gemma’s husband.”
The bodyguard’s expression didn’t change. His voice was cold. “Ms. Kelestine is single.”
Marcus’s face darkened. “What the hell do you know? She’s my woman, I-”
“Ms. Kelestine is just Ms. Kelestine. She belongs to no one. If you don’t leave, I’ll make you leave.”
The bodyguard’s tone was full of warning.
He looked like he was itching for a reason to throw a punch.
Marcus took a step back.
His gaze shifted past the bodyguard.

But whether she hit or missed, there w
always someone cheering for her.
Like it didn’t even matter if she failed.
A sharp ache twisted in Marcus’s chest.
Back when he lost his sight, every day was a downward spiral.
After she married him, she reorganized everything in the house, rounded off sharp corners, labeled everything.
She spent days brewing medicine.
And when he noticed the changes–the strong smell of herbs, the unfamiliar arrangement of furniture–he lost his temper.
Especially when she failed at something. The harsh words came out so easily, cutting her down without a second thought.
But she used to be brilliant.
She should have been surrounded by applause…
Not his resentment.
Yet she stayed. Took all of it. She used to love him so much.
He clenched his fists. “No. I have to see her. Now.”
The bodyguard barely reacted.
He just lifted a hand, gesturing for him to try.
Marcus’s fists tightened.
He had planned to ease his way back in–buy her medical equipment, show some goodwill.
Wait until she didn’t hate him anymore. Then make his move.
But now that he was here, he realized–he couldn’t live without her.
He couldn’t wait,
Gemma rolled her shoulder.
Her arm ached–probably a minor strain.
But sweating felt good.
She could breathe easier, like a weight had lifted off her chest.
“Gemma, your bow is heavier than mine.”
Thea said, lifting it with admiration in her eyes.
“So this is what it’s like when a genius picks up a new skill without even trying.”
She grinned. “I swear, I’m telling everyone I have a genius for a friend.”
Gemma laughed.
“Not a chance. My arms don’t even feel like they belong to me anymore.”
Her whole body ached.
It’d take a few days to recover.

Shawn still looked doubtful.
“Be honest. Did you secretly train her before this? Did you bring us here just to embarrass us?”
Cassius cracked open a drink and took a sip.
“Stop making excuses. If you suck, practice more.”
Shawn, “…”
He clutched his chest.
“Cass, I’m starting to think you don’t love me anymore.”
“Used to be, no matter what, you’d always take my side. Now all you do is roast me.”
Cassius raised a brow. “Was I wrong?”
Shawn groaned.
“Direct hit to the heart.”
Then he paused, glancing at Gemma again.
“Actually, I take back what I said before.
I think she could handle the lab. I used to think she’d crack under pressure, but honestly? She’s tougher than me.”
Cassius didn’t look surprised. His gaze lingered on Gemma.
She had a way of proving people wrong.
Then-
Shouting erupted outside. hint at dy’t allfell
Everyone turned toward the noise.
The bodyguards were blocking someone. Fists were already flying.
Shawn stepped forward. “I’ll check it out.”
Gemma stopped him.
“They’re here for me.”
Before, seeing Marcus had always made her angry.
Even when he hadn’t done anything in that moment, just his presence made her sick.
Now?
She felt nothing.
Not even a ripple.
She walked to the door.
The bodyguards let go of Marcus, who was now bruised and battered.
“Gemma?”
Marcus lay on the ground, covered in dirt.
He scrambled up, hastily brushing himself off, his face turned away so she wouldn’t see the damage.
“You need something?”
Gemma’s voice was calmn, indifferent.
Like his injuries didn’t matter.
A bitter taste filled Marcus’s mouth.
The woman who once held him above everything–She was gone.
His eyes burned.
“I just wanted to ask if the equipment was useful. If you need anything else, I can-
Gemma shook her head.
“Didn’t need it. Donated everything to a hospital. Oh, and I got a little award for it.”
“Thanks for that.”
Translation:
I don’t want your stuff.
But if you wanna keep wasting money, be my guest.
Marcus’s expression tightened.
But he quickly smoothed it over. “It was always yours. What you do with it is your choice.”

“Do you like archery? I’m pretty good. I could teach you.”
“Whatever you like, whatever you do, I’ll support you. I swear.”
Gemma, “…”
She crossed her arms. “You’re not just here for this. What’s the real reason?”
Marcus’s eyes lit up, mistaking her words for concern. “It’s Ali. He’s got archery lessons–you signed him up,
“He regrets how he treated you. He’s changing, Gemma. Slowly but surely.”
remember?”
“He’ll understand how good you are as his mom.”
“Wanna see him?”
“I promise, if you saw him now, you’d be shocked.”
Gemma frowned.
Worry flickered across her face.
If she remembered correctly, Noah was training in archery too.
She had been picky about Ali’s instructor, so she’d chosen Digby.
Coincidentally, Noah’s teacher was also Digby.
“You’re saying Ali is with Digby now?”
Marcus exhaled.
“Yeah. I took him there myself.”
“After handling Ali’s school drop–offs, I finally understand why you did everything you did.”
“Every choice you made for him was right. Sorry, I should’ve supported you.”
Gemma lifted a hand, cutting him off.
Then she turned.
Cassius stood a short distance away, watching.
When she met his gaze, he gave her a small smile and walked toward her. “Need me to handle it?”
Gemma rubbed her temple. “Something feels off. We need to check on Noah.”
