Chapter 297: Calling the Cops on Gemma? Her Defense Lawyer Is…

Gemma froze.

Then, her eyes lit up.

There it was-hope.

Cassius explained.

I have a friend at the police station who can create an aged-up version of a person based on a childhood photo.”

If you’re unsure, just describe any features you can remember. He’ll sketch it out for you.”

Tears welled up in Gemma’s eyes.

Why hadn’t she thought of this before

All these years, she’d been stuck asking about missing children.

Waiting around orphanages and welfare centers like a fool.

And now, looking back-

She felt like she’d been running in circles.

Better let your friend do it. I’m terrible at drawing, and I don’t want to throw him off with a bad sketch.”

Cassius nodded. “Alright. When are you free?”

Anytime.”

She lowered her head, feeling oddly flustered.

Why did this feel like they were making plans for a date?

This was getting awkward.

Got it. I’ll set it up and let you know the time and place.”

Gemma nodded quickly.

Cassius added, “Just a heads-up-he’s a little… eccentric.”

More nodding.

Eccentric was fine. She needed his help.

There was no time to be picky.

But he and I are close. If he’s going to help, it’ll be for my ‘family.”

More nodding.

“If he asks, tell him you’re my family.”

Nodding… nodding…

Wait.

Family?

Did she hear that right?

Her head snapped up.

But Cassius looked completely serious, his eyes flickering with concern-

Like he was actually worried his friend might say no.

Gemma mentally kicked herself.

Why did her mind even go there

Cassius wasn’t that kind of guy.

She quickly reassured him.

“Don’t worry, I’ll play along. He’s already doing us a favor-I’ll cooperate fully.”

Cassius gave a cool, approving nod.

Gemma’s stomach clenched.

She owed him a massive favor now. She had no idea how to repay it.

Just then, a small voice interrupted. Gemma, I’m done eating! Can we go home now? Candy must be missing me. I still have to give her a bath!”

Gemma snapped out of her thoughts.

“Ah, oh! Right, let’s go home.”

She scooped Noah up, lifting him high-partly to hide her burning face-then all but bolted for the door.

Behind her, Cassius chuckled, then followed at a leisurely pace.

The next day.

The moment Gemma arrived at work, Kaiya blocked her path.

“You do realize interfering with medical staff is illegal, right?”

Gemma had zero interest in dealing with anyone from the Dolton family. So she didn’t bother with small talk.

Her tone was cold. Dismissive.

Kaiya didn’t take the bait.

She simply said, “Grandmother wants to see you.”

Gemma let out a sharp laugh.

“Which one? I don’t remember.”

Kaiya waved her phone. “She’s on the line right now. Honestly, I didn’t expect you to be this disrespectful. I feel bad for her.”

The screen showed an ongoing call.

And then, from the speaker-

Madeline’s voice, dripping with fury. “You have no manners whatsoever!”

You’ve humiliated the Dolton family!”

“So what if you can save lives? You’ll never be worthy of the Dolton family name!”

Gemma chuckled.

“What is your family name made of? Diamond? What century did this outdated nonsense crawl out of?”

You-you-you-!”

Jonathan was so angry she could barely speak.

Kaiya seized the moment.

“You’re so rude! You will come with me and apologize to Grandmother!”

If you don’t, I’ll have you dragged there!”

Gemma folded her arms, unfazed.

“Sure. Go ahead. Try me.”

It was peak clinic hours. Patients were already waiting for their appointments.

Some had grown impatient and wandered over-

Only to find Gemma being blocked.

Tempers flared.

“Who do you think you are, cutting in line?”

That set off the crowd.

In seconds, they swarmed Kaiya, voices raised in frustration.

Gemma seized the moment, putting on a pitiful expression.

‘I know you’re from the Dolton family, but rules are rules. I treat all my patients equally. Please respect hospital policies.”

She didn’t need to say more. The crowd took over. Before Kaiya could react, she was being shoved and pulled.

Raised in luxury, she had never-EVER-been manhandled like this.

She panicked.

“What the hell are you people doing?!”

“I wasn’t trying to cut in line!”

“She’s my cousin!”

‘I wasn’t skipping ahead because we’re related-I need to take her home!”

*Stop shoving me!”

*Ow! Who just hit me?!”

“You bunch of lunatics! That HURTS!”

By the time it was over, Kaiya’s hair was a mess, her clothes were stained.

She’d been practically thrown out of the hospital.

Chapter 297: Calling the Cops on Gemma! Her Defense Lawyer Is….

Dolton family bodyguards, who had been lurking in the background, had no choice but to follow.

Gemma, watching from a distance, gave a subtle wave to her own security team-no need to interfere.

When it came to the Doltons, she always assumed the worst.

If they were trying to drag her into their house, there had to be a trap waiting.

And she wasn’t about to walk straight into it.

She had patients to see. The media had covered her recent surgical success, and now the hospital was busier than ever. No time for distractions.

By the time her last patient left, it was late. She stretched with a content sigh. Today had been a good day.

Humming a tume, she stepped outside… and ran straight into Dolton’s second son.

Jarrett leaned against the wall, holding two cups of coffee.

Gemma didn’t even slow down. “Too late. Can’t drink that.”

Jarrett gave the cup a little shake and sighed.

“You think I poisoned it?”

Gemma smirked. “I hope you poisoned it. That would make dealing with your family a whole lot simpler.”

For a split second, Jarrett looked stunned.

“You really hate the Doltons that much?”

To his knowledge, the family hadn’t done anything that unforgivable,

So how did things get to this point?

Gemma smiled. “Since you DO get what I mean, I think we can wrap this up here. No need to waste each other’s time, right?”

Jarrett sighed.

“My mother and Kaiya are both in the hospital. Kaiya filed a police report. The cops will be coming to question you soon. I’m not here to make things worse-I’m here as your defense lawyer.”

Gemma, “???”

She didn’t buy it.

In her experience, small favors from the Doltons always came with big, nasty traps.
