Chapter 299: Mr. Cassius, Always One Step Ahead
Robin chuckled, scratching the back of his neck.
‘Stop it.”
“You’re messing with me again.”
Gemma glanced at Jarrett deliberately. “But I heard I might be getting arrested.”
Robin blinked.
Download a scam prevention app?”
Gemma, “…”
There was a brief pause before Robin gestured toward the people behind him.
“My men have been dealing with some serious back pain. Thought I’d ask if you had any tricks up your sleeve.”
“I know treatments should be tailored to the individual, so I brought them all here.”
“If you have time, could you take a look?”
“Don’t worry, we’ll register properly. We’ll follow hospital rules, no exceptions.”
Jarrett froze. Jarrett
A second ago, he thought Robin was just doing Cassius a favor by helping Gemma out.
But now-
“Officer Robin, you came all this way… just for this small matter?”
Robin frowned.
“Mr. Dolton, how is this a small matter?”
“You’re a lawyer, aren’t you? Ever heard of labor laws? What’s wrong with an employer looking out for his team?”
“These people got injured while working cases. As their captain, isn’t it my responsibility to take care of them?”
Jarrett clenched his fists,
“Officer Robin, you don’t have to worry about her reputation just because I’m here.”
“I’m Gemma’s lawyer. Whatever you need to handle, just do it–I’ll represent her.”
Gemma raised an eyebrow. “Pretty sure I never signed anything giving you that authority.”
Robin looked confused.
“Since when do you need a lawyer?”
“I was here last time, and I’m pretty sure that wasn’t
a
requirement.”
Gemma pointed toward her office.
“He’s just messing with you. Ignore him. Come on in, I’ll take a look.”
Lower back pain could be treated with physical treatment, and she had recently developed a set of exercises that could help.
But before they could head inside, Jarrett stepped in front of Robin, blocking his way.
“As far as I know, someone called the police. This involves Gemina.”
Since Robin was playing dumb, Jarrett decided to cut to the chase.
Surely, with that, he’d drop the act.
Robin gave him an annoyed look.
If he weren’t technically a family elder, Robin would’ve lost patience already.
“First off, I haven’t received any reports. Second, whether we’re investigating or not has nothing to do with you–we keep things confidential.”
“Tell me, Mr. Dolton, are you worried she’ll end up in jail… or that she won’t?”
Jarrett’s expression darkened.
“You’re abusing your power. If you’re suppressing this for Cassius, your career is as good as over.”
Robin’s temper flared.
I’m starting to think you’re obstructing a doctor at work. If you don’t step aside, don’t blame me for taking you in for a little… chat.”
Jarrett hesitated. So he wasn’t bluffing?
“You’re seriously not here to arrest Gemma?”
Before Robin could answer, a piercing scream rang out from inside the office.

“Ahh! Dr. Kelestine, take it easy!”
A chorus of voices followed-
‘Dr. Kelestine, my arm hurts too!”
“Wait… are needles supposed to be this long? I suddenly feel fine! Maybe I was just being dramatic!”
“Holy crap! Dr. Kelestine, I swear I’m good now! I’m cured!”
Someone actually bolted from the room.
Jarrett’s words were cut off as Robin quickly grabbed the runaway officer and dragged him back.
‘Captain, I don’t wanna do this–I swear I feel better now!”
“This seriously hurts!”
“But… wow, I feel amazing afterward.”
Jarrett stood in the doorway, dumbfounded.
Gemma really was treating them.
And judging by the results, her methods were working.
A couple of officers who had already been treated were bouncing around like overexcited monkeys, while the rest stood in line, wearing expressions of pure suffering.
Jarrett: “…”
So…. they really were here for medical treatment?
Had he been misinformed?
Just then, his phone rang.
Ashton.
“Jarrett, the hospital director is handling this personally. You should come over.”
Jarrett stiffened.
Kaiya and Madeline had been so sure Gemma was in trouble.
And yet… the one dealing with it wasn’t Gemma at all?
“I’m on my way.”
He hung up and cast one last look at Gemma, who was still treating patients.
A wave of frustration rose in his chest.
She knew all along.
She let him make a fool of himself.
And he actually thought, as her uncle, that he should give her a chance.
What a joke.
His jaw clenched.
No more mercy.
By the time Gemma finished treating the last officer, her wrist ached. She massaged it briefly. “I’ll send the exercise video to Officer Robin. You should practice regularly—it’ll help.”
The officers who had been terrified minutes ago were now chatting and laughing.
Only Robin remained serious.
“Dr. Kelestine, if we run into similar cases in the future, we might need your help again.”
Gemma lowered her voice.
“Officer Robin, be honest. Was this just a coincidence, or did you come here on purpose?”
Robin paused, then smiled mysteriously.
“You already know the answer–why ask?”
Gemma, “…”
How did you know the Doltons would show up?”
Robin thought for a moment, then leaned in.
“Simple. They were after you, and they had a backup plan in place. If one approach failed, they had another.”
Gemma had always known the Doltons were shameless, but this was a new low.
Her decision to cut ties was now set in stone.

“And the other situation–how’s that being handled?”
*Since it happened in the hospital, the director’s taking care of it. Nothing to do with you.”
Robin’s tone grew more serious.
“Don’t let this shake you. You’re a damn good doctor. If you quit, that’d be our loss.”
Gemma chuckled. “You really think that would get to me? If I were that fragile, I’d have quit years ago.”
Back then, Marcus had wanted her to be a full–time mom, and Margaret had tried to manipulate her into giving up medicine.
But she’d stood her ground.
Robin gave her a thumbs–up.
Totally respect that. But I should get going–I don’t wanna risk getting my ass kicked.”
Gemma’s eyes lit up.
“He’s here?”
