Chapter 303: Jarrett’s Cursed Romance
Ashton went quiet.
The truth was, he had no say in what might happen to Gemma when she was back in Doltons.
He thought about what Charlie used to be.
And he couldn’t make any promises.
“What? Regretting how you treated her before?”
Christine chuckled softly as she put the baby down.
Ashton blinked back to reality and turned away, avoiding her gaze.
Maybe it was the alcohol messing with his nerves-
He was feeling weirdly sentimental tonight.
“I was just thinking about Charlie. Honestly, she was a good sister.”
Christine said nothing.
Not really her place to comment on that.
But Ashton kept talking anyway.
“She saw us together that day.”
Christine flinched, eyes flashing with surprise.
“I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want to scare you. And it just so happened Charlie had to leave town for some fieldwork, so…”
He let out a soft sigh and turned back to her.
“So I paid off someone on her team to make sure she left early.”
“But I didn’t expect…”
Christine was already putting the pieces together.
“But we weren’t even officially together yet,” she said. “Even if she had told the others at Doltons, it wouldn’t have done that much damage to your reputation.”
There was no need to go to such extremes.
Ashton was at a loss for words.
He struggled to explain.
“Christine, you’ve got to believe me. I never meant to hurt Charlie. She’s my sister..”
Christine shrugged.
‘I do believe you. But what difference does that make?”
Ashton froze, then nodded slowly.
“Yeah… yeah, you’re right. I should’ve explained things to Gemma.”
“But she was abandoned when she was a kid… I just figured Charlie wouldn’t like her.”
“And if Charlie didn’t like her, then me being kind to her–doesn’t that feel like a betrayal?”
Christine glanced at the sleeping child in the hospital bed. Her heart clenched a little.
This child was also unexpected.
Could’ve been considered her enemy’s child.
But she gave birth to him anyway.
Chose to raise him, too.
A mother’s love—it’s the purest thing in the world… and the most complicated.
“I don’t know about the rest,” she said softly. “All I know is–if Charlie really didn’t care about her, she would’ve thrown her off a cliff, not just left her in some mountain village.”
Ashton froze.
His pupils shrank.
“Then does that mean I really screwed up?”
Christine shook her head. “Whether you did or didn’t… that depends on how your own heart sees it.”
Ashton stared at her
Then suddenly pulled her into his arms.

Chapter 303 Jarrett’s Cursed Romance
“Christine having you in my life that’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
But Christine’s eyes stayed clear, unreadable. Not a trace of affection in them.
Tim thinking clearly now,” he said firmly, “And I’ll say this again I’ve decided to cut ties with Doltons. I want to be with you.” Inside, Christine was laughing coldly. On the surface, though, she played her parteyes wide with panic.
‘Not
“You can’t just turn your back on your family like that! I’ve already stayed hidden all these years, I don’t mind hiding a little longer.” “You’ve always treated Doltons‘ rise and fall as your own fate. How can you give up so easily?”
“Ashton, I’m gonna pretend you’re just drunk and talking nonsense. But if you say something like that again I’ll take the kid and leave.” Twon’t be some homewrecker people point fingers at
Hearing that only made Ashton love her more. He pulled her in tighter.
Alright… I get it. Don’t worry I’ll keep Doltons, and I’ll keep you too. I’ll give you a proper title. I’ll make sure you enter Doltons with honor.” Christine nodded. “I believe you.”
But inside? She was ice cold.
Believing in men only leads to misery.
She’d have to rely on herself.
Ashton… would just be a tool from now on.
Mabel showing up at the hospital was the last thing Gemma expected.
“You seriously made an appointment? What, are you sick?”
Mabel looked pale as a ghost. Her eyes were dull, like someone had sucked the life out of her.
“Yeah. I want you to help me keep the baby,”
She sat down.
“You’re supposed to be some miracle doctor, right? I don’t feel right–check me.”
Gemma really didn’t feel like dealing with her, but since Mabel had officially booked a visit, she couldn’t just ignore it.
She started the diagnosis.
After about ten minutes, her brow furrowed deeply.
Judging by the report, Mabel had been taking something consistently that caused miscarriages.
Not in huge amounts, but over time, it added up. She probably hadn’t absorbed much of it early on due to morning sickness, which was the only reason she hadn’t miscarried yet.
But if this kept going, the baby wouldn’t last much longer.
Maybe a month at most.
And that’s being optimistic.
One wrong move, and she could lose the baby any minute.
Mahel’s own body was already showing signs of strain. If the baby didn’t make it, she might crash too.
Could end up losing both lives.
“You been filming a lot lately?”
She knew how much Mabel care about this baby, and figured she must’ve been eating badly on set.
Production crews weren’t exactly known for understanding pregnant women’s nutritional needs.
Mabel’s expression darkened.
‘Don’t talk in circles. If you can’t read it, just say so.”
Then she stood up abruptly.
think you’re doing this on purpose–trying to upset me so something goes wrong!”
“You’re a doctor! How can you be so heartless?”
Gemma, “???
Was Mabel trying to set her up?
But that didn’t make sense-
The door was closed, no one could hear them from outside.
Even if she started screaming, no one would know.

Chapter 303: Jarrett’s Cursed Romance
Why go through all this trouble?
Just as Gemma was trying to figure it out, Mabel pulled out her phone.
“Oh–silly me, I forgot to hang up. Mr. Jarrett, I didn’t mean anything by it…”
She let out a dramatic sigh. “Look, I know you probably don’t believe a word I say now, and that’s fine.”
“Whatever. She’s your niece–I shouldn’t expect you to take my side.”
Gemma, “…”
Oh. So that’s what this was.
Mabel had somehow gotten close to her uncle Jarrett.
And now she was using Gemma to play some twisted little game and try to get closer to him.
Honestly, Gemma couldn’t wrap her head around it.
Wasn’t Mabel madly in love with Marcus not long ago?
Now she was pregnant with Marcus’s baby, and yet here she was… cozying up to an older man?
Her uncle, no less.
Ugh.
What kind of logic was that?
Wha
Had Margaret finally driven her insane?
“Check the attitude, Gemma. Only reason I’m not blasting you online right now is out of respect for your uncle. Don’t test me.”
Gemma tilted her head. “Hey, free idea–let’s get you a same–day MRI. My diagnosis? Critical case of zombrain.”
