We were so compatible, like two halves of a soul coming together to form a whole.
How did we end up like this in the end?

Meeting them as a family of three was unexpected.
At the transfer airport, the VIP lounge wasn’t very big. I was casually flipping through a book when I heard a child’s giggles. I looked up instinctively and froze.
Fate was too cruel, forcing us to cross paths in this inescapable space.
James was holding a child with one arm, a toy in his other hand, with a woman by his side–Rachel, I suppose.
I had only seen that wedding invitation once, but I remembered the name.
Rachel was nestled close to James, smiling and reaching out to play with the child.
The picture–perfect family of three.
My mind went blank. When James looked over, he was visibly stunned too.
The woman beside him seemed very perceptive, looking suspiciously between us, but fortunately, we were both composed people skilled at hiding our emotions.
I recovered first, forcing a smile as ! made small talk: “What a coincidence. Is the Sullivan family going on vacation?”
James nodded, putting the child down. I couldn’t quite read his expression–was it panic? Guilt? Embarrassment?
I was too tired to analyze it. I just heard him reply softly, “Yes.”
We were like mere acquaintances, and then we stopped talking.
I lowered my head, pretending to read my book, but soon put it down because my hands were shaking uncontrollably. I was afraid of being laughed at.
It’s okay, Amelia, it’s okay. I closed my eyes to comfort myself. It’s fine, it’s just a chance encounter. You can handle this. Stay calm.
Rachel tentatively asked me, “Do you know James? What’s your name?”
Such clumsy probing. I actually wanted to make her uncomfortable. I wanted to smile maliciously and reply, “My name is Amelia Parker,”
But my good upbringing stopped me. Besides, this woman wasn’t really responsible for breaking up my marriage.
