Chapter 5
When it came to Jessica, Alpha Manfred moved with the kind of efficiency usually reserved for emergency war councils or rogue wolf attacks.
That very night–that same night–he updated his Facebook status. I wish I were kidding.
“Feeling blessed”
With her.
And in case that wasn’t enough of a gut–punch, he added a caption under a glowing photo of the ultrasound:
“Proud to announce I’ll be a father. This is the start of a real family.”

When netizens‘ started foaming at the mouth, accusing him of infidelity and Jessica of being a home–wrecking omega with a golden womb, Alpha Manfred went full PR Alpha.
“Our marriage was purely business,” he posted.
“No love. The divorce was already in progress.”
And just to really hammer the silver stake into my still–bleeding heart, he attached a photo of our divorce papers. Signed. Smug.
But come on. The public wasn’t that dumb.
Just a month ago, he and I had attended a charity gala together. He’d held my hand like it was sacred. Kissed my temple in front of

the entire High Moon Council. Whispered, “You’re my forever, Emily.”
Apparently, his definition of “forever” expired quicker than a rogue’s parole.
Still, capital has its claws. By dawn, every critical comment had vanished into the abyss. Whole accounts disappeared. Influencers got cease–and–desist letters delivered by Silver Claw Pack’s law team.
And me? The discarded ex–luna?
I was just a glitch in their perfect story.
The day I was discharged from the hospital, the rain was relentless. Thick sheets of it poured from the sky, soaking the earth like the Moon Goddess herself was weeping on my behalf.

I tightened my coat around me, ignoring the nurse who suggested I wait under the awning. Compared to the smell of
disinfectant in the hospital–I could survive a little weather.
But then, right as I stepped outside, he appeared.
When Alpha Manfred emerged from the downpour, umbrella in hand, we both froze.
Neither expected to see the other so soon.
His gaze flickered–hesitant, almost guilty- but then Jessica appeared.
“You came!” She threw herself into his arms, beaming. “I thought you were swamped at work?”
“It’s raining.” He pulled her close, shielding

her from the storm. “Let me walk you to the
car.”
I stood there soaked, my wolf pacing inside me, furious.
Jessica looked back over Alpha Manfred’s shoulder as they walked away, and she smirked. A slow, venomous, gotcha kind of smirk. Then she mouthed two words:
“A loser.”
Damn. Those were the exact words I’d saved for them.
Minutes later, my phone buzzed.
Alpha Manfred.”‘Wait for me. I’ll come back for you after I drop Jessica off.”
Oh, am I a cheap woman?

I stared at the message, fingers trembling -not from sadness. From rage. Pure, unfiltered wolf rage.
I didn’t wait.
Instead, I stepped into the rain, hair plastered to my cheeks, hospital wristband still dangling from my arm, and hailed a cab.
“Where to, miss?” the driver asked, eyeing me through the mirror.
“The airport.”
