Chapter 8
The people around us began to understand. Some recognized Kendrick as the man who had caused a scene at our press conference.
“He’s the scumbag! The one who abandoned the Benson Group’s heiress for his first love. Now he’s planning to divorce and marry her?”
“Who does he think he is?”
“Does he think he can have everything? He just wants to mooch off some rich girl!”
After hearing the truth, the crowd understood how the hard-

After hearing the truth, the crowd understood how they had been manipulated.
They muttered a few curses and began to disperse.
I sighed with relief and buried my head in Phelps‘ neck. “My dear, I’m so glad I have you.”
Phelps held me tightly, arrogantly humming in satisfaction. “I worked hard to make you my wife. With men eyeing you like that, I have to be on guard.”
I sighed, “You’re truly the best husband in the world.”
Seeing this, Kendrick was furious. He shoved Leonore hard.
“It’s all your fault! This is all your fault!”
Leonore’s eyes reddened.
“Kendrick, let her go. She doesn’t love you anymore.
“We’re married now. Let’s just live our lives, okay?”
Kendrick shoved her away. “Live with you? In your dreams! You and your mother are both liars! You’re poor and vile. You’re nothing compared
to Alisha! Why would I want to live with you?”
Leonore froze.
“No… no, you said I was the best woman in the world.”
Kendrick, his eyes bloodshot, shouted, “How narcissistic! Do you believe everything a man said in bed?”
Leonore’s face crumpled with hurt. “Even so, you’re still willing to raise money to bail me out. That means you still love me. Otherwise, why didn’t you leave me in jail?”
Kendrick sneered, “That’s because I want you to go after Phelps and break them up!
“I’ve only been playing with you. I never loved you. You should be grateful that you look a little like Alisha. Otherwise, I wouldn’t even look at you.”
Leonore completely lost it, collapsing to the ground and screaming in madness
Kendrick’s gaze shifted to me.
After hearing all of that, I felt nothing but disgust and disdain for him.
I took Phelps‘ hand and left the beach.
After our honeymoon, we returned to Nexura City.
I officially took over the company, and Phelps became the head of the Cullen Group.
Our lives were blissful.
One day, while I was working at the office, my assistant came in, saying a man downstairs wanted to see me.
I declined.
The assistant added that the man was Kendrick and that he was here to collect on a promise I made.
I went down to the meeting room, where Kendrick sat on the sofa. As soon as he saw me, he handed me a lock.
I immediately recognized it. It was the one we had hung on the wishing bridge three years ago.
Back then, with the sunset’s golden light behind him, he smiled, “Alisha, we made a promise back then. As long as we had this lock, we would fulfill each other’s wishes. Now, I know what I wish for.”
