Chapter 38 Alpha Council–3
|| Lilac’s POV ||
The room was a storm of whispers and murmurs, the tension so thick it felt like the air itself was holding its breath. Kael’s smug confidence had shattered, his face pale and his jaw clenched as he tried to process the turn of events. I stood tall, my heart pounding but my expression calm, as I addressed the room once more.
“The question still remains,” I said, my voice cutting through the noise like a blade, “how did the. future Alpha King get his hands on these pictures? My brother is from the Royal Beta family, and he is a minor. I don’t understand why he was being monitored in the first place.”
Dad stood beside me, his presence made a stronger impression.
“Yes, what is the meaning of this, Alpha King?” he demanded, his voice firm and filled with authority. “Why would anyone tail my son? Our family has pledged loyalty to the throne for generations. Our ancestors were appointed by the Nightshades themselves. Why would it come to this?”
The whispers grew louder, the alphas and lunas exchanging uneasy glances. Kael looked like he had been struck, his usual composure slipping as he realized the situation was spiraling out of his control. He had never imagined this would turn against him.
“This is outrageous,” Alpha Asher said, his voice sharp with anger. “The council needs an answer.”
“This young beta is surely capable enough,” another alpha added, his tone filled with admiration. “He even managed to capture a rogue by himself. He has proved his worthiness. How dare you defame him in such a manner?”
The room erupted into chaos, the voices of the alphas and lunas rising in a cacophony of accusations and demands. Kael’s face was a mask of shock and anger, his eyes darting around the room as if searching for an escape.
“Silence!” Alpha King Darius’s voice boomed through the hall, his authority cutting through the noise like a thunderclap. The room fell silent, all eyes turning to him. “We still don’t know if this incident is true or not,” he growled, his expression dark.
But the damage had been done. The seeds of doubt had been planted, and they were growing
fast.
“Even if Ezra was under suspicion,” a voice said, calm but firm, “the royal family should have consulted with the Blackwoods first before bringing it up on a platform like this. After all, the alphas always have a strong tie with their betas, and a beta’s defamation is equivalent to the Alpha’s.”
I turned to see Alexander, the son of Alpha Asher and the soon–to–be alpha of the Silver Moon pack, standing tall and confident. His presence was commanding, his sharp eyes scanning the room with a quiet intensity. I had always admired Alexander, even in my past life. He was a natural leader, someone who carried the weight of his responsibilities with grace and strength. I

was already one of the largest and most influential in the region, and Alexander had never stood for the Alpha King election in my past life. But now, as I watched him, I couldn’t help but think that he would have won if he had.
“Besides,” Alexander continued, his voice steady, “I have something that may interest everyone in the room.” He motioned to the guards, and one of them left the room, returning moments later with a man in chains. The room fell silent, all eyes fixed on the newcomer.
“A few days ago, I was running some business in the capital,” Alexander explained, his tone calm but firm. “Before I left, I saw Ezra, and I noticed a man taking pictures of him. It seemed suspicious, so I followed my instincts and captured the spy. After all, he was targeting the Royal Beta family, and that didn’t sit well with me.”
He stepped closer to the man, his gaze sharp and unyielding. “To my surprise, this wolf is also a rogue.
Not only does he have a scent, but he also found a way to hide the tattoo on his skin. Only the touch of wolfsbane can reveal a part of it.” He pulled out a small vial of wolfsbane and dabbed it on the rogue’s neck, revealing the faint outline of a lone wolf tattoo. The room gasped, the murmurs growing louder.
“When I asked who he was working with, he didn’t talk much,” Alexander continued, his voice cutting through the noise. “But I found this.” He held up a cheque, the signature at the bottom unmistakable Kael’s.
The room erupted into chaos once more, the whispers turning into shouts of anger and disbelief. Kael’s face was ashen, his hands clenched into fists as he tried to maintain his
composure.
“It’s obvious Kael was associated with this rogue, even he paid him,” Alexander said, his voice rising above the noise. “And not in the way Ezra was. On top of that, why would he investigate the Royal Betas?”
I looked at Alexander in awe, my heart swelling with gratitude. He had helped me in a way I never could have imagined, and his support meant more to me than words could express. He glanced at me and nodded, his expression reassuring. I’ve got your back, his eyes seemed to say.
The murmurs in the room grew louder, the whispers turning into a chaotic uproar.
“We may have to reconsider the place for the throne if this keeps up,” one alpha said, his voice filled with anger. “First, Kael humiliated Lilac on multiple occasions, and now this.”
“True,” another alpha agreed. “Kael had so much potential to be the next Alpha King, but we cannot trust him blindly anymore.”
“Why would you tie up with a rogue?” another voice demanded, the accusation sharp and unrelenting.
I smiled inwardly, but I kept a sad, pained expression on my face. I inhaled deeply, letting the emotions wash over me before I spoke again. “Kael…” My voice trembled, and I let a few tears slip down my cheeks. “We grew up together… in the castle. I always had feelings for you, but I backed off when you found your soulmate. The entire country watched when you carried your mate out of the hall at our engagement ceremony. I stayed numb, even though it caused humiliation to my family. Wasn’t that enough? Why would you try to set up my little brother? What has my family

My voice broke, and I let the tears flow freely. The room was silent, the weight of my words hanging heavy in the air. But inside, I was laughing. I knew a damsel in distress always won more
vote.
“Trust me, I didn’t know he was a rogue,” Kael said, his voice trembling with desperation.
“That means… that means… you truly asked him to investigate my brother?” I mumbled, my voice barely above a whisper. The room gasped, the sound echoing through the hall.
“No, I mean… I didn’t mean it that way,” Kael stammered, his mask slipping completely. He looked scared, his confidence shattered. It gave me the satisfaction I needed, but I kept my expression pained and broken.
“Enough,” Alpha King Darius said; his voice sharp and final. “We will investigate this matter further. The meeting is adjourned for the day.” He stepped out of the room, Luna Cassandra following close behind. Kael left as well, his steps hurried and his head down.
I smiled inwardly, the weight of the day lifting slightly. But I wasn’t done yet.
“You are a tremendous actor, Lilac,” Ezra whispered as we walked out of the hall, his voice filled with admiration.
“We’re not done yet,” I replied, keeping the false sad face intact. “So… shhh.”
