Chapter 12
The wolf pack charity gala was a glittering affair.
The moment I walked in, conversations stalled. Luna Chloe stood at the center of the hall, linked arminarm with Alpha Ethan like she was born to rule.
She smiled at me, but her pupils shrank the instant our eyes met.
She recognized me.
Not Alpha Evelyn.
Emily.
“Miss Marcus,” she greeted me sweetly. “I didn’t expect you to attend tonight.”

“Why not?” I returned the smile. “A charity gala? I wouldn’t miss the entertainment.”
Her eyes glinted as she glanced at my dress. “Oh no, your hem is wet…”
A moment later, a servant carrying
champagne “tripped,” spilling the entire glass down my skirt.
Soft gasps and muffled laughter followed.
“Oh, I’m so sorry!” the servant bowed repeatedly.
I stared at her. Then calmly picked up my own wine glass and poured it over Luna Chloe’s pristine white gown.
“I’m sorry too,” I said lightly. “My hand slipped.”

The hall went silent.
Alpha Ethan stepped forward, voice low. “Alpha Evelyn, that was unnecessary.”
I tilted my head. “Was it?”
I turned to Luna Chloe, eyes settling on the sapphire necklace she wore.
“That’s a beautiful piece,” I said. “pack heirloom, isn’t it?”
Luna Chloe’s fingers curled protectively over the pendant.
“Foster bloodline sapphires. Rare and priceless.”
“Hmm.”

I reached forward, held the gem between my fingers, and twisted it slightly.
“Strange,” I murmured. “The cut’s cloudy. Color’s off.“”
I gestured, and a man in a lab coat stepped forward with a scanner. The device beeped.
“Labgrown,” he announced. “Synthetic. Market value? Maybe five hundred.”
The crowd gasped.
“You’re lying!” Luna Chloe snapped, voice rising. “This is real!”
I looked at Alpha Ethan. “You sold the real one, didn’t you? To cover your pack’s financial hole. You pawned Emily’s death for credit–and gave her a fake.”

Alpha Ethan’s jaw clenched.
Luna Chloe tried to save face. “You’re just jealous!”
I slapped her.
The echo rang through the room. She hit the floor with a scream.
“You don’t get to speak her name,” I said.
Later, I was in the elevator alone, glass empty, brain foggy. I’d had too much to drink.
My scent markers were spiking–erratic and sharp. I hit the button for the top floor.
But before the door closed, someone forced
it open.
Alpha Ethan.

“You’re drunk,” he said coldly, stepping inside.
I scoffed. “Shouldn’t you be off celebrating with your Luna?”
He stalked closer, eyes burning. “Your scent -it’s driving me insane.”
Then without warning, he grabbed my arm, pressed me to the wall, and bit down on my -neck.
Hard.
His scent markers surged through me, sharp and scorching.
I shoved him back, baring my fangs–and bit him in return.

He stumbled away, lip bleeding.
“You bit me?” he growled.
“You don’t get to mark me,” I snapped.
The elevator doors slid open again.
“Step back,” a calm voice said.
Omega Silas appeared, walking toward us with that quiet grace only an Omega carried.
I was trembling, breathing shallow. My scent was spiraling.
Omega Silas reached me, gently cupping my chin. His forehead touched mine.
“Breathe. I’ve got you.”
His scent–clean, cool, grounding–washed.

over me.
He pressed a patch of calming brew against my wrist.
“Slow inhale,” he said softly. “Count to five.”
I followed. The world steadied.
Then another presence approached.
Alpha Daniel.
He saw me leaning against Omega Silas. His expression twisted.
He stepped forward, eyes narrowing at my neck.
“That’s… his bite mark?”
I didn’t answer.

“He tried to mark you?” His voice was low.
I met his gaze. “He tried. I stopped him.”
I touched the wound, voice low but steady.
“Emily is not his to own.”
