Chapter 15
…Would you really die for me?”
The moment the recording echoed through the werewolf council hall, silence fell like a
blade.
Luna Chloe’s voice, trembling with fake sobs at first, soon turned sharp and icy:
“Erase Emily’s name from the medical
records. Put mine instead. Lucien has to live.
You know what I mean.”
I sat at the head of the chamber, calm as still water, letting the whispers swell like a rising tide.
“She forged the records-”

“Dr. Jason’s her father…”
Alpha Ethan stood below the dais, paper clenched in his fist, face ashen.
I walked down the steps and placed the USB drive in his hand.
“Play it yourself.”
He looked down, voice hoarse. “How did you even get this…”
“Because you never bothered to look,” I said quietly. “She told you who to let die, and you didn’t even ask why.”
He shook his head, as if denial alone could rewrite reality. “She wouldn’t-”
“But she did.” I took another step. “And you- you–held Emily down on the operating table

and whispered, ‘Don’t be afraid. I’m here.””
His world cracked behind his eyes.
I added softly, “You said you’d protect her.”
“Enough!” he roared suddenly, voice laced with guilt and fury.
I stared him down. “No. Not even close.”
He was the one who opened the door.
Hours later, he burst into my office like a beast unchained.
“You kept all these?” His eyes locked on the wall–photos of the orphanage, each one with Emily’s figure circled in red.
“What the hell are you trying to do?”

I leaned against the window. “A man who let me die doesn’t get to ask for forgiveness.”
“You hate me that much?” He took a step closer, voice ragged. “Then why keep them?”
“Because I used to love you.” I met his eyes. “Loved you enough to die for you. But not anymore.”
His face twisted, like something inside him finally broke.
“So this is punishment?” he asked bitterly.
“No,” I said. “This is truth. You’re in love with a ghost.”
In the next second, he grabbed my face and kissed me hard–desperate, hungry.
I bit down, tasted blood.

“Have you lost your damn mind?!”
“I don’t even know if you’re Emily or Alpha Evelyn!” he shouted.
“Then you don’t deserve to touch either of us!” I shoved him back and slapped him across the face.
He stood frozen, lip bleeding.
“You only know how to love what you’ve already killed,” I said coldly.
He laughed then–broken, bitter. “At least she loved me.”
“No,” I snapped. “She died loving someone who never truly saw her.”
A knock.

I opened the door.
Omega Silas stood there, holding a bottle of wine and a calming brew.
“Bad timing?”
I exhaled. “Perfect, actually.”
Alpha Ethan glared. “Who the hell are you?”
Omega Silas tilted his head, casual. “You mean when I kissed her? Or when she
passed out in my arms?”
“Say that again,” Alpha Ethan growled, stepping forward.
“Gladly,” Omega Silas said, calm and deadly. “She doesn’t belong to you. And she never
did.”

Alpha Ethan lunged.
Omega Silas didn’t flinch. “Alpha?” He smirked. “I’m an Omega. But I don’t run from mad dogs.”
“Enough!” I barked.
Alpha Ethan turned to me, jaw tight. “You’re choosing him?”
I didn’t flinch. “I’m choosing someone who’s still alive.”
That hit harder than any slap.
I turned away. “Omega Silas. Balcony.”
He followed without a word.
“Are you alright?” he asked softly, once the

door shut.
“No” I admitted.
He handed me the wine. “Then sit. I’ll stay.”
We sat side by side, legs dangling over the edge, city lights glowing beneath us.
“He does love you” Omega Silas murmured.
“No. He loves the memory of me.”
“You’re not her anymore.”
I nodded. “But part of her still breathes in me.”
“You don’t have to carry all of her pain too.”
I looked at him, surprised.

“You ever think,” he continued, “that maybe Emily deserves rest, and Alpha Evelyn deserves to live?”
I blinked.
He leaned in, voice barely audible. “Then let me remind you–you’re here. Now!”
He looked at my lips. “May I… cover part of it with my scent?”
My breath caught.
His voice was like a whisper of wind. “Just… lend me a kiss.”
Then he leaned in and kissed me.
Not like Alpha Ethan.
No hunger. No violence.

Just warmth. Requesting, not demanding.
I let him.
I didn’t push him away.
And then
“Stop.”
Alpha Ethan’s voice cut through the night.
He stood in the doorway, fists clenched, face pale with rage.
I rose slowly, back to him. “You’re too late.”
He didn’t move.
“You’ll regret this,” he said.

I turned, voice like frost. “I already regret meeting you!”
He didn’t speak this time.
He left, slamming the door so hard the glass trembled.
Moments later, Alpha Daniel entered, holding a file.
“I did some digging,” he said. “Alpha Ethan searched for 107 Omegas over the years. All with scent profiles like Emily’s.”
I froze.
“He never stopped looking for her,” he said. “But she was already gone.”
“All he found were echoes,” I whispered.

Alpha Daniel looked at me. “And me? Have you ever… thought of choosing me?”
I didn’t answer.
He exhaled, quietly. “You don’t have to answer now. Just… don’t shut the door on me like you did on him.”
Outside, the wind stirred.
The roses trembled.
And that night
No one slept.
