Chapter 24
I pulled out my phone and submitted a one–month leave request to the Packhouse.
As Head of HR, Yolanda got the notification instantly.
“Juliet, where are you going? Let me come with you.”
I looked at the girl in front of me, the only one who still stood by me after the pack turned its back.
I nodded.
At least someone still counted as family.
The month slipped by faster than I expected.

No one reached out. No one sent an apology. Not even my paycheck showed up.
The day my leave ended, I went back to the Packhouse like nothing had happened.
In the end, pride doesn’t pay the bills.
And in this pack, my worth was two thousand a day. That’s not something you just throw away.
But of course, That widely known drama hadn’t died down yet.
Whispers curled around corners like smoke.
“She really thought she was going to be
Luna” Mary sneered, loud enough for half the office to hear.
“Imagine getting replaced on your wedding

day. I’d never show my face again.”
Mary.
The same she–wolf who broke down in my arms when her fiancé dumped her,
and I marched her to his doorstep to get back every piece of what he stole.
Funny how memory works.
“Well, she’s used to schmoozing in the business world, Queenie chimed in.
“Thick–skinned, no doubt. I still don’t get how she became Beta.”
That one stung more than I expected.
I took the hit for her at a partnership dinner- drank shot after shot when a sleazy pack

leader tried to force liquor down her throat.
I ended up in the hospital. She ended up here, trashing my name.
“Witches always make for the best gossip,” someone snickered.
“She had it coming.”
“Callie’s so much better, Louise added.
“She buys us little gifts all the time. That’s what a real Luna does.”
Louise.
My own apprentice. The pup I trained, defended, built from the ground up.
Looks like Callie didn’t waste time winning their hearts.

I leaned against the office doorway and listened to the gossip for quite a while.
When it seemed like they were wrapping up, I finally pushed the door open.
Laughter stopped on a dime. Eyes locked on mine, and then darted to the floor.
I walked in, picked up the file on Louise’s desk, and skimmed it.
“Gossiping about your superior is fine,” I said, flipping the last page, “if you can do your job. What is this garbage?”
I slapped the folder down with a loud thud, not waiting for a reply, and strode toward what used to be my office.
But the moment I opened the door, I stopped

dead.
My space had been claimed.
Louise’s voice followed me, her face shifted instantly into a fake smile.
“Juliet, sorry–we forgot to inform you.
Per Alpha Zach’s orders, your office was reassigned to the future Luna.
Your new workspace is… downstairs. On the first floor.”
There’s no office space on the first floor.
I quickly realized what she meant.
The storage room next to the break room.
So Alpha Zach was really going all–in on

humiliating me.
Ignoring their looks, I picked up my things- the ones they had so helpfully packed–and went downstairs.
Work is work, no matter where you do it.
The storage room was a mess, and the moment I opened the door, a cloud of dust choked me.
Just as I dropped my stuff, my phone buzzed with a new message in the work group:
Meeting starting soon.
I rushed to the elevators.
I pressed the button over and over again, but every elevator showed “10F” and none were coming down.

I glanced at my watch–eight minutes left until the meeting.
Taking a deep breath, I opened the stairwell door and started climbing.
At that moment, my favorite stiletto heels became my greatest enemy.
Love and hate, truly, are separated by a single thought.
When I finally reached the tenth floor, I saw why the elevators never came down-
All of them had been wedged open with chairs, blocked from closing.
No wonder. Another little trick from Alpha Zach, huh?

I let out a short laugh. He really enjoyed watching me suffer.
Pulling this kind of childish prank? How tasteless.
Fine. I’ll give him what he wants.
Callie was sitting in my seat, smugly tilting her chin at me.
“Zach, your Beta looks kinda pathetic right now.”
A shadow flickered through Alpha Zach’s eyes, but he quickly nodded and went along with her.
“Look at you.”
I glanced down at myself.

One heel was broken. My blouse was open at the collar, hair damp with sweat and plastered to my forehead.
My semi–sheer shirt clung to my skin, outlining my bra beneath.
Some male coworkers were already whispering and swallowing hard.
“Juliet’s body is… damn.”
Bang!
Alpha Zach stood up and kicked the guy who just spoke, knocking him over.
Everyone stared in stunned silence. No one could understand why he did it.
Even he probably didn’t know.
