Chapter Fifteen: Aurielle DuVall
certain things, reduce my stress, and exercise more
I busied myself with my doctor’s appointment. I learned that I needed to eat
to keep my body healthy for the baby. The doctor said my blood pressure rose higher than it was yesterday.
Which is insane. Twenty–four hours and I’m a mad woman,
I avoided answering any of her questions about announcing my pregnancy. When a Luna is pregnant it’s a huge deal for the pack. She’ll be birthing the next leader.
But since I’m aiming for a divorce, I don’t want everyone to know about this. Especially not my parents. They’re not good people
to me. I don’t want their influence in my child’s life. They’ll find out like everyone else when I leave this place.
The rest of the day was uneventful. I made more notes of what I needed and filled out the summons.
By dinner time, which was 8 p.m. for me, I got a phone call from Alpha Cassiel, which surprised me. He doesn’t usually call.
What is usual for us? Just a te
a text. We’re kind of friends
I answered, placing my fork down.
“Hello, Cassiel?”
“Aurielle, sorry to call you this late. I got back from the council and wanted to ask about your divorce. Is everything alright? Are you okay? The receptionist said the form wasn’t filed.”
I felt the hot shame of humiliation, I’m not sure why. But this acquaintance, this powerful man knew I hadn’t put my divorce in
for the review.
What does he think? That I changed my mind?
He’s calling to check on me… isn’t that strange? Surely alpha Cassiel has better things to do with his time?
“Sorry, I’m having some issues. I’ll be filing for a summons instead.”
I lost my appetite. This wasn’t a conversation I wanted to have. Suddenly I remembered Matthias and his beta. The one who
disrespected me.
Is she even good at her job? Why did he pick her?
Why is this the first time I’m seeing her? Was she his beta or assistant? Or both? I bit back a sigh. Running my fingers through my
hair.
“A summons could take time? Is your husband not cooperating?” He sounded like he was more worried than I am about going through the summons route.
So I tried to be honest. “He doesn’t want to accept a divorce. To be honest, our marriage was arranged. And… you know you can only give so much to someone before it starts to take a toll. I’d like to take some time to build myself up. Being a Luna here…” The

slamming and shattering of something snatches my attention from the conversation. I’m tensed immediately.

“What was that sound?” Cassiel inquires. His hearing must be freaking impeccable for him to have heard that from over the
phone.
“I’m not sure. I’ll need to check it. But… Cassiel, would you mind having lunch with me tomorrow? There are some questions on the summons that I just don’t understand. And 1-”
“Say no more. Text me a time and place.”
I put a smile on my face. He’s a good man. Not at all cruel.
“Thank you. I’ll text you later.”
“Stay safe, Aurielle. If anything happens do let me know.”
I agreed, happy to at least have a friend outside of the back. I don’t know how we became friends. It’s all his doing, to be honest.
Another crashing sound and I shot up, leaving the empty dining room. The servants in the hallway looked at the front door. They
made no move to check. Useless.
I reached for the doorknob and opened it to find Matthias stomping on a flower pot. He’d broken two.
He was clearly inebriated, and I was furious. I put those plants there damn him.
But he wasn’t alone. That girl was there with him, I think he said her name was Lena
She was laughing as he slurred some words out.
“Hey!” I called their attention. Lena’s smile left, glaring at me hard. I crossed my arms. Then my eyes went wide.
How had I missed it before? She looks shockingly similar to Nerissa.
Nerissa was adopted, I’m not saying her real family is still in this pack but this girl Lena is the closest I’ve ever seen anyone come
to looking like my wicked sister.
Is that why he hired her?
Disgust fills me. She’s not good at her job like people claim, I can think of so many betas that I’ve met that have been wonderful
for the job.
But he hired this girl. He chose her, and I’ve rarely seen her because she’s not doing her actual job,
Just sucking up to my disgusting husband.
From the color of her hair to her eyes, to her body. She was a Nerissa copycat. The glare feels the same too, Only, there’s something missing. She’s not giving me the same feeling as Nerissa. I feared my sister because she had everyone wrapped around her fingers. But…. Lena. God, how could he be so obvious?
