Chapter 19 Not Necessarily Lethal
The sizzling aroma of roasted meat filled the air, accompanied by an unpleasant, funky smell. It was akin to the fragrance of spring onions mixed with manure,
Beastmen typically have a keen sense of smell, and that was particularly true for Xelrik, who was a tiger beastman. When the strange, combined scent hit him, he couldn’t help but cover his mouth
and nose.
He scowled, overwhelmed more by a sense of embarrassment!
From his perspective, Karina escaped from a pack of wolves without showing a hint of fear, yet Avani was terrified to the point of wetting herself by the pyronis spider.
The other beastmen were utterly repulsed and disgusted.
Avani called for help for what felt like ages, but no one came to her aid. Instead, everyone kept their distance, looking at her with evident disgust.
That expression was similar to the one they wore when they were misled by her to disdain Karina.
In an instant, a sur
out like this?
Hiss!
of humiliation and resentment welled up in her heart. Why did things turn.
It appeared the pyronis spider had detected the presence of the water–type talent it detested most in Avani. Once again, it spat out its thread, enveloping Avani into a cocoon and began to drag her toward its mouth.
Its mouth moved ferociously, appearing extremely hungry
“Darn it, the pyronis spider is going to devour Avani!” The beastmen exclaimed in shock. Despite their disdain, after all, they couldn’t just stand by and watch a beastwoman die.
Xelrik grew anxious, not so much out of concern for her safety, but because if she were to die, he might lose half his life and the power he gained from ascending to Level–Two.
He transformed into a tiger, swiftly moving forward to rescue Avani.
Before he could even get close, he was ensnared by the pyronis spider’s web, which was wrapped around his two front legs.
With a swift kick by the spider, he was sent sprawling, face–first into the dirt.
Avani was on the brink of being devoured by the pyronis spider.
A thick stream of fire erupted over her head, singeing off a layer of her hair.

As soon as Xelrik turned around, he caught sight of a slender and charming figure leaping past him. The blazing fire snakes originated from her fair, delicate hands.
Xelrik felt as if his mind had exploded. Karina had actually awakened a talent? Not only that, this fire snake is clearly Level–Two. How is this possible?
The beastwoman he once held in utter contempt not only possessed a Level–Six reproductive. ability, but even her fire–type talent was no less inferior to his own.
The thought of missing out on such an incredible beastwoman filled Xelrik with such he wished he could slap his past self for his foolishness.
regret that
A fire snake whizzed past Xelrik’s head. With a swift, sizzling sound, it landed onto the spider’s web that lay between the pyronis spider and Avani.
In an instant, the fire snake devoured both sides.
The spider silk that enveloped Avani was promptly set ablaze. From a distance, she looked like at screaming fireball of mummy.
Avani was in such excruciating pain that she was rolling on the ground unsightly.
Xelrik snapped back to reality first. He rushed forward, scooping dirt from the ground and covering her with it, extinguishing the flames.
Meanwhile, the fire snake was following the spider’s thread, going straight for the pyronis spider’s mouth.
Squeak!
Karina’s fire snake was as red as blood, intertwined with a hint of barely perceptible purple lightning. That lethal combination was even more potent than pure fire.
The pyronis spider writhed in pain, its front two legs covering its mouth as it let out a skyward
cry.
When it came to honing her talents, Karina, always aiming for efficiency, would practice everything all at once.
Even the method Zareth taught her to attack the wolf beasts, she had grown accustomed to using. both of her talents simultaneously. Over time, it had become a habit, but she didn’t even realize
- it.
The violet lightning flickered subtly, its presence barely noticeable under the intense, fiery glow. Naturally, it didn’t draw the attention of the other beasthumans.
Everyone’s attention was completely focused on the screaming pyronis spider!
“Did I just see that correctly? Karina has actually awakened her talent, and it’s the powerful fire- type!”

“I initially thought it was a miracle that Avani was able to awaken her water–type talent. Who would have guessed that Karina’s fire–type talent would be even more formidable!”
The beastmen were all looking at Karina with eyes full of admiration.
Meanwhile, Avani was so frightened earlier that she couldn’t even squeeze out a drop of water.
The two beastwomen were simply incomparable.
“H–How is it possible that you awakened a fire–type talent, Karina?” After much difficulty, Avani managed to extinguish the fire.
Witnessing that scene, she felt as if her world had come crashing down.
She had gone to great lengths to acquire her water–type talent, yet Karina had awakened a fire- type ability that was even more powerful than hers!
Why is she always luckier than me? Avani was consumed by intense jealousy.
Karina turned around, her gaze disdainfully sweeping over the disheveled Avani. She scoffed, “You’re useless. Get out of my way.”
It wasn’t that she wanted to save Avani.
Instead, the wild beasts were innately ferocious, especially when they saw blood. After killing a beasthuman who had awakened their talents, they would become even more enraged. Under such frenzy, their strength would also increase accordingly.
She and Zareth had just been through a major battle, leaving them greatly depleted. If the pyronis spider were to go berserk, it would be difficult to handle.
She didn’t care if Avani died, but she didn’t want the latter to hinder her.
Avani was overwhelmed with embarrassment and was on the verge of losing her temper.
Unexpectedly, the pyronis spider launched fire once more, charging toward them at astonishingly fast speed.
Avani’s legs trembled from fear, and she immediately closed her mouth. Her face turned pale as she hid behind Xelrik.
Boom!
Several streaks of purple lightning struck down from above, hitting the spot in front of the pyronis spider’s legs.
Even though both combatants were Level–Two, the pyronis spider was evidently wary and not longer advanced. Its crimson compound eyes swiveled, angrily fixating on the two individuals. who were obstructing its meal.

Before it could even get close, Zareth, as a black serpent intercepted the attack, splitting the tree in two and setting it ablaze.
“Rina, I’ve got your back. Go ahead without worry.” Zareth turned around, speaking to her in beast language.
Karina’s visit to Phantom’s Hollow was to enhance her strength, so he believed she shouldn’t miss such a great opportunity for combat.
He wanted to help her grow stronger for that was her wish.
“All right!” Watching the black serpent use its massive body as a shield, an inexplicable sense of security welled up in Karina’s heart. Assured, she entrusted her back to Zareth, then, gripping her black blade, she took off rapidly.
In the blink of an eye, she arrived in front of the pyronis spider.
Faced with Karina’s bold advance, the pyronis spider seemed provoked. It let out a strange cry and raised its front legs to strike at her.
Before the attack could connect, the spider was ensnared by a serpent tail enveloped in a purple glow.
The pyronis spider was as big as a wild boar, and its long, stretched legs resembled a tree.
Yet, standing before the black serpent, which was tens of meters long, its strength seemed insignificant.
The moment the spider was entangled, Karina had already swiftly moved behind it and struck the beast with her black blade.
A spark flashed from the blade, and it nearly flew off.
Its skin is so thick that even the weapon given by Ariel can’t pierce through?” Karina was slightly taken aback.
The weapon, within Darkvale Tribe, was already considered top–notch, sufficiently sharp.
Yet, it couldn’t even pierce through the hide of a Level–Two wild beast.
At that moment, she realized she still didn’t understand the wild beast well enough.
When her attack failed, the pyronis spider was provoked into rage. It turned around and spewed. out a fireball.
Despite the threatening situation, Karina didn’t show any signs of retreat. In a swift dodge, she leaped directly onto the back of the pyronis spider, wrapping one hand around its neck, which was covered in grey–white fur.
“Since I can’t pierce your body with weapons, I’ll try your favorite fire instead!” Karina scoffed,

In an instant, the black knife she held was entwined by a fire snake, turning a fiery red.
With a fierce glint in her eyes, she forcefully stabbed her weapon toward the spider’s eyes.

As if fuel was dispersing in water, the light from the flames formed a halo, spreading out in a burning glow.
Squeak, squeak, squeak!
In agony, the pyronis spider began to shake violently, attempting to fling Karina off its back.
Karina was not one to give up easily. She licked her lips, drew her blade, and proceeded to strike at its eyes and brain over a dozen times!
Not every strike of the sword was necessarily lethal, but it was certainly ruthless!
