Chapter 28 Preparing For The Journey
Karina pulled out the white wolf’s fangs and claws from her personal storage space and handed. them to Ariel.
“Twice now, you’ve come to my aid. These are from a white wolf that Zareth and I hunted down today. It’s only a Level–One, but its strength is comparable to a Level–Two beast. These should be pretty decent for weapon crafting. Consider this a token of my gratitude.”
Karina’s ability to slay so many wolves was greatly attributed to the black knife Ariel had given her.
With a cold expression on her face, Ariel was about to reject.
However, a figure suddenly charged over, swiftly snatching the items from her hands.
“Claws and fangs as formidable as a Level–Two beast? Haha, these are some good stuff indeed! Karina, since you’ve taken my black blade, I’ll accept these as a trade for it!”
The one speaking was none other than Macgor, who had come along.
Clutching the wolf’s claws and fangs, he was grinning from ear to ear. This material was even better than the bones of the black tiger beast.
I’m certain I can forge even better and more formidable weapons!
“Dad!” Ariel stomped her foot in frustration.
Just as she was about to suggest that her father should go back, he abruptly clamped a hand over her mouth and forcefully dragged her away.
As they left, he could be heard lecturing her, “You silly child, how could you not accept such wonderful materials…
Lorcan also hurriedly went to make preparations.
Karina and Zareth were just about to head back. They were set to depart the next day and still needed to pack for their journey.
Suddenly recalling something, Karina called out to Draven once more.
“Draven, hold on a moment, I have another favor to ask of you.”
“Karina, feel free to tell me if you need anything.”
Draven immediately halted, perfectly embodying the loyal sidekick persona.
Zareth also cast his gaze down toward Karina, his magnetic voice unconsciously deepening a bit as he asked, “Rina, is this something I can’t do?”

Could it be that Karina no longer fancied Xelrik and was now seeking another man to be her
beast husband?
Feeling a chill emanating from his friend. Draven inexplicably felt a shiver down his spine.
Karina chuckled lightly. “Of course you can’t.”
Zareth’s normally suave face darkened considerably.
“You’re coming with me to the Ironfur Tribe. However, the wolf pack we hunted still needs to be dealt with. We need to store them for the winter season. Otherwise, by the time we return, they would have already rotted. Do you really want me and the pup in my belly to go hungry?” Karina teased with a laugh.
Is he seriously jealous of his own best friend?
Seeing the teasing glint in her eyes. Zareth realized he had misunderstood.
“Of course I wouldn’t want that,” he immediately denied with an apology.
Even if he had to starve himself, he wouldn’t let Karina suffer the slightest hardship.
Draven was completely baffled.
A pack of wolves? What?
Karina brought Draven home, where she unloaded the entirety of the wolf pack corpses from her storage space. They were all piled up in the courtyard in front of the house.
“These are the wolves that Zeth and I hunted down in Phantom’s Hollow. While we’re away, I’d appreciate it if you could deal with them for us.
After that, Karina brought out the salt from her home.
Meat needed to be cured with salt to be preserved for a longer period.

Additionally, these Level–One wolf pelts and claws all needed to be processed.
She didn’t have the time, so she could only entrust it to Draven.
“T–That many? And some are Level–One beasts too! You two hunted all these?”
Draven’s eyes widened, his face full of astonishment.
Karina simply smiled without a word, then handed over two Level–One wolves and two jars of salt to Draven..
“This is a token of gratitude for your help. You also don’t need to give me the ten Level–One beast crystals from before.”

“Really? Truly?”
Wild beasts were treasured resources, and the meat of this Level–One wolf was even more precious. Consuming it not only satisfied hunger but also enhanced one’s strength.
“Of course, if you’re unwilling, then I-”
“No, no, of course I’m willing!”

Before Karina could finish her sentence, Draven immediately interrupted with his response.
Raising three fingers in a solemn vow, he assured, “Karina, don’t worry. I’ll definitely handle these wolves. Just focus on bringing Corvus back safely!”
There was no denying Draven’s words had truly resonated with Karina.
And so, the two of them agreed that after she and Zareth left tomorrow, they would entrust Draven with the task of dealing with the wolf corpses.
That night, Zareth roasted the carcass of the white wolf.
The two of them had their fill of food and drink, then quickly took the time to absorb some beast crystals.
Of course, it wasn’t the kind of “absorption” that Karina had in mind.
The Ironfur Tribe was formidable, and the journey there was fraught with unknown dangers. It was of utmost importance to enhance their strength as soon as possible.
When Zareth finished absorbing the Level–Two beast crystal from the pyronis spider, he returned to their room to find that Karina had already fallen into a deep sleep.
Observing Karina’s sweetly serene sleeping face, Zareth moved quietly, careful not to disturb her. He climbed into bed, gently laying down at the edge before tenderly wrapping his arms around her from behind.
And so, he fell asleep, wrapped around her protectively.
The next day, at the crack of dawn.
When Karina woke up, Zareth had already packed their bags.
He was simply waiting for her to keep them into her space.
The two of them arrived at the entrance of the village at the same time as Ariel and Lorcan.
The two beastmen Lorcan had assigned as their escorts had also just arrived.
Maegor followed behind Ariel, reluctantly giving her advice.

He simply couldn’t find peace of mind.

“Mr. Lorcan, I have Zeth with me, so you can rest easy. You’ve just assumed the role of chief, and the tribe needs you to hold the fort.” Karina certainly didn’t want Lorcan to overwork himself.
