Chapter 69
She looked down at Jack who was snuggling into her. He looked so small and weak. She could feel him breathing, but it felt different
slower than it should be. She stroked his small face and he responded by moving.
“Is there a chance for you and your husband? Benjamin asked. And Before she could answer, Milton snorted loudly, cutting Benjamin off. He only looked at Milton briefly before he continued king, “I only ask because that’s a nice wedding ring.”
There was a part of her that didn’t want to talk about Derrik, but she knew Benjamin was just talking to keep her mind off of what was going on.
‘I never received a wedding ring from Derrik. She ended up with the one my father gave my mom-” She stopped talking and snorted. “She hated it because he only spent three hundred dollars on it. So when she left us, she left the ring, too. My ex–jerk asked me to marry him with a shower curtain ring. I thought it was cute, but now looking back, I can see that he didn’t think I was worth anything more.
Jack let out a small whimper, and Benjamin leaned over to look at him and started to rub his chest again. “Five–minute APGAR of baby Leonard one is seven.”
After Benjamin said that out loud, it was repeated by the person on the phone.
“What about the ring on your necklace?” he went back to talking to her in a softer tone, seemingly happy with how Jack was doing.
“That was from someone important,” she told him and Milton gasped swallowing loudly. “Benjamin, it’s hurting bad again,” she groaned, and Benjamin rubbed his hands up and down her leg.
“I know, it’s just Micheal coming,” he informed her. Just like his brother, he seemed to come despite her efforts.
“Alexis, I need assistance. Baby Leonard two, male, five on one minute APGAR, needs help with breathing.”
Again, Pandora heard the person on the phone repeat his words as her mouth opened, but nothing seemed to come out.
“Just hold him,” Benjamin soothed, placing Micheal next to Jack.
“They’re so tiny,” she sobbed as Benjamin moved around. She felt something drop over her, and when she looked, she saw that Benjamin’s shirt was on top of the boys and her. He was huddled over them, shirtless.
Her eyes seemed to linger on his arms, which were covered in tattoos. They moved back up to his and she gasped as a memory of her night in Vegas hit her. Instead of seeing Nemo, she saw Benjamin.
Everything seemed to slow then, almost as if she was slammed into full–force, panic mode; She just couldn’t think straight. Before she knew what was going on, Benjamin had picked her up and placed her on a gurney, which was moving.
But her boys were being whisked out of her arms and away from her. They need to go to NICU. I’ll get you cleaned up and then take you straight there,” Benjamin promised her as she tried to follow her boys with her eyes.
She was taken into a side room. The door of the room closed, and she could no longer see anyone, let alone her boys.
Benjamin helped her to deliver the afterbirth and checked her over. You’ll need a few stitches,” he told her, and she just nodded at him. “I can give you something for the pain first if you need it?”
She turned her head away from the door and looked at Benjamin. He sounded as if he was struggling to keep himself together. “No, please, I just want to be with them,” she replied as she stared at him

“Are the lights hurting your eyes?‘ she asked him and he shook his head at her. The door opened and Alexis walked in, just as he cleared his throat.
*Benjamin, can I have a word?” Alexis asked softly and her eyes narrowed at her, and she knew that something was troubling her.
“Not right now. I need to get this finished and then check on the boys. Benjamin said, not looking at her.
‘I’ll supervise,‘ she countered, giving Pandora a smile. “Pandora, how are you? Do you need any painkillers?”
She shook her head at her, knowing Benjamin was doing what he needed to do. She needed something to take her mind off of this, so she started to talk to her. “Is it weird that I feel like I know you?” he chuckled to Alexis and she raised her brow at Pandora.
“I mean, Milton talks a lot, mainly about you. Unlike Benjamin, he seems to have gotten you pretty accurately.”
“What did he say about Benjamin?” Alexis smirked as Benjamin groaned.
“Loads of stuff, just- she stopped and looked at him “Take it this way… you are not what I pictured with what he said about you,” she laughed. “I think if he had gotten you more accurate, I would’ve known you were his brother–in–law.” She stopped talking as she kept wondering if it would have been wondering.
“I can guess what he said about me,” Benjamin said. “I just found it odd he would talk to you about me at all; I mean, you’re my patient and he was investigating a crime at your place.”
“I met him before he arrested my ex–husband,” she said, wincing at the end, feeling a small stabbing pain.
“Oh, where did you meet him?” Alexis asked.
On a plane when I went to Vegas; he never shut up the whole trip, she giggled.
Benjamin stopped and looked at her. He shook his head and then carried on stitching her up. “There we go, the stitches are in. You needed five. You can take a bath or a shower now if you want?”
“Can’t I see them first?” Pandora begged, feeling as if she was going to break down again.
“You can

just let me find you something to wear,” Benjamin jumped up and moved out of the room, leaving her with Alexis.
“So you were in Vegas?” she asked and Pandora nodded at her. “Was it for a girls‘ weekend out?”
“Nope, just a work conference,” she sighed, and she snapped her fingers.
“Yes, you are the one that was crying, and he thought you were hitting on him.”
