Chapter 106
“Sorry, he’s in surgery, Emily sighed as she sat down beside her. Pandora hummed as a reply and felt Emily take her hand. Are yra okay?” she asked and Pandora nodded immediately.
“Yeah, I know he works hard and…” she sighed, trailing off.
She worked long hours, too. Derrik, at first, complained she worked too hard. Until now she never saw it from his point of view. Right then, she felt that she may have played a bigger part in his cheating on her than she had ever accepted.
“Can you walk with me back to my car?” she asked and Emily smiled sadly.
By ten o’clock at night, Benjamin was still not home. She left his cake and gifts on the table and headed to bed.
“I am so sorry, love,” she heard Benjamin whisper as the bed dipped.
As soon as she knew he was settled, she opened her eyes and looked at the clock. It was almost one in the morning, so he was at work on his day off, his birthday, for over sixteen hours. She closed her eyes, biting her lip.
The next was a normal work day for him, so he would be up and out of bed by seven and leave the house by eight.
“Hey, love,” Benjamin whispered and she slowly opened her eyes to see that, yet again, she had fallen asleep, and not made dinner. It had been two months since Benjamin had been back at work, and his schedule didn’t seem to be improving.
The boys were more awake now. She was finding that she was unable to feed and look after them, as well as keep on top of the cleaning, shopping, and cooking. And, this was the third day in a row that Benjamin had come home to find her asleep with no dinner cooked.
Today had been long because Jack had been really crying and clingy. She had gotten even less done today than she normally did.
“I’ll call for something,” Benjamin said as she sat up.
“No, just give me a few minutes to wake up and I’ll cook.”
“Pandora, it’s ten o’clock at night, I’ll just call and order something.
Before Benjamin could make the call, his cell rang and she huffed as he picked up. “You just got home,” she said, knowing the look on his face meant he had to leave again.
“I know but…”
“But what? Is there no other doctor that can work besides you?”
Benjamin sighed and rubbed his face. “Yes, there are other doctors, but I owe them for filling in for me when I was off on paternity leave.
“So, let me get this straight. You got two months off on paternity leave, just so you could work your ass off for longer than that amount of time and not see me or the boys at all?” she hissed at him in frustration.
“I do see them,” he stated.
Pandora let out a very un–ladylike snort and Benjamin just glared at her.

“What’s wrong, Jack?” she asked, changing him again. When that didn’t soothe him, she tried to feed him, but he refused. “You’re a little too warm,” she mumbled, picking up the phone.
“Maternity ward, this is Nurse Leena speaking”
“Hi, it’s Pandora, Can I speak to Benjamin, please?
“He’s duty,‘ she replied.
“When did he leave?” she asked, hoping that meant he would be home soon.
“Nine o’clock last night.”
Pandora groaned. “No, he was called back to work.”
“Well, I haven’t seen him; are you sure he was called into work?”
Yes,” she hissed. “Just page him and have him call me back, it’s an emergency.” After that, she hung up.
She removed Jack’s baby gown and gave him a few drops of baby Tylenol in hopes it would help cool him down.
“Come on, Benjamin,” she hissed, looking at the clock, when she saw it had been an hour, she decided to call back.
“Maternity ward, this is Nurse Leena speaking.”
“Can I speak to Emily?” she asked.
“She’s not here tonight. Can I help you with something, Ma’am?”
“This is Pandora and I’m still waiting for Benjamin to call me back.
“Well, I paged him like you asked, but he hasn’t called back yet. As I said, I don’t think he’s here, I haven’t seen him.”
“You haven’t seen him and he did not call you back?” Pandora asked, feeling pissed off. He always answered his pager when he was
at home.
“No, as I said earlier, he’s not scheduled to be on duty tonight. Maybe he’s out with his girlfriend.”
Pandora closed her eyes, hating what the snotty nurse just said to her. ‘Just page him again, this is about his son,” she told her and the nurse tutted at her rudely.
“Okay, whatever. I’ll take time from my patients again to page him when he isn’t even here.”
Chapter 106
After hanging up, her mind went in circles. She was worried about Jack, he was still warm and Benjamin was missing or ignoring her. She started to feel more panic, worrying he was with someone else.
“He’s not Derrik,” she repeated ut loud to herself. Then she looked the mirror and saw her body. The fact was she was nowhere near the size she was before having the boys, and Benjamin didn’t seem to be as close to her as he was when she was pregnant.
“He’s just working hard,” she told herself.
As another hour passed, Jack was still crying and felt even warmer, when his crying got worse, she picked up the phone but this time, she called Lana.
