- 7.
I walked back to my chambers. I heard Darian
and Finny arguing in the garden again.
I sighed. Didn’t the sirens have any palaces
for them to use?
Why did they always have to fight and make
out in public?
Did it turn them on or something?
I was having some weird thoughts when Finny
screamed.
“You said you didn’t like Bella! So why do
you care who she marries?”
“You even told her to ask the shaman to
change her mind! Did you want her to pick
you?”
Darian sounded annoyed.
“Stop being stupid. You know how strong the
Snowfangs are. I need Bella’s power.”
“If she chooses Sylar, how can she help me?”
Finny calmed down, but she still sounded
hurt.
“Swear to me. Swear you’re just using her,
and you only love me. That you’ll only ever
mark me.
وو
Darian pulled Finny into his arms, soothingly.
“Of course. Don’t forget, I was reborn to
marry you. Beating the Snowfangs is just so I
can give you a better life. How could you
doubt me?”
Finny melted. “Okay, I’m sorry. I believe you.”
Darian’s actions were gentle. He said the
right words. But when I looked at him, his
eyes were cold.
He could turn Finny around with a few words.
I just shook my head. I thought Darian loved
Finny so much.
That he would forget about everything else to
be with her.
Turns out, his love was just as fake as he
was.
I didn’t want to watch their show. I hurried
back to my chambers.
I told Ava to pack my stuff. I laid back in my
chair, stitching my wedding dress.
When I married Darian last time, the
Snowfangs attacked. There was no time for a
real wedding.
After the war, he said weddings were
pointless. He’d mark me in front of the pack.
That was the highest honor a wolf could give
a bride.
I was so happy back then. I thought I’d found
the right man.
Later, I learned that marking was a private
thing. Doing it in public was disrespectful and
degrading.
No wonder the werewolves were cheering so
loudly. I was stupid enough to think they were
congratulating us.
I shuddered and forced the bad memories
away.
A handmaiden came to tell me Darian was
く
here again.
I sighed. He must have made up with Finny.
Now he was back to bother me.
I put down my dress and went out.
He came rushing towards me as soon as he
saw me.
“Bella, are you really going to marry Sylar?”
“Aren’t you afraid of the dark? The vampires
live in a place where there is no sun! They’re
all pale as ghosts. You’ll hate it there.”
I raised an eyebrow. “What’s it to you?”
