Knightly
The door to her bedroom opens and I push off the wall to take us down, but the moment I see her step out in the fitted black dress I don’t know what to do. I’m not this person. I don’t lock up like this. I don’t let anything get to me but this girl is killing me.
The dress covers all of her. There’s no design. It’s just a simple long–sleeved dress that hugs her body perfectly all the way down to her calves. She turns around to shut the door. The back is open from her shoulders down to her waist. I have to fight the urge to touch her soft bronzed skin.
Phoebe isn’t exactly a short girl. She’s about five seven or eight, but in these heels. What it does to her hips and her posture. She turns to me with a smile tugging on her lips. The dress covers up to her clavicle. She’s wearing a necklace that has a chain attached to it that runs down the center of her back. I thought she was going to cover them up, but she’s got my marks on full display.
“Ready?” she asks when I don’t say anything.
“Give me a second,” I reach for her.
She backs up as I step into her needing to breathe her in. The perfume she’s wearing compliments her natural scent perfectly. She’s just fucking up all my senses. I’m barely hanging on here. She places one hand on my wrist and the other on my chest. I hold a strand of her hair up needing more.
“You smell good,” she says quietly and leans back to look up at me.
I’ve been in her life days and she looks exhausted. Not once has she complained about any of it. She’s demanded my honesty and that I put the pups first. Everything for them, but what is she getting out of this? It feels a lot like I’m just destroying her. One selfish breath at a time. Everything I knew would happen to her is happening and I don’t know how to protect her from any of it. It would be different if she were a shifter.
“I need you and the pups to stay close to me tonight,” I tell her.
“Okay,” she nods without hesitation.
“You’re not to go with anyone alone, Phoebe. Tell me if you have to go to the restroom or Tessa. Yes?”
“Yes,” she nods looking down at my chest. I tip her chin up so she can look at me.
“Words aren’t enough to describe how beautiful you are,”
“Don’t make me blush, Knightly,” she pushes against me. I let her step out from under me. “People are going to think wrong if I go downstairs all flustered,”
“Let them,” I laugh loving that she gets hung up and the stranges shit. “You’re my mate. I am never going to hold back the truth from you,”
“Good,” she seems relieved to be reassured of that.
“I didn’t think I’d ever be able to be near you this way. I’d never do anything to fuck it up,” I tuck her hair behind her ear so the marks are more visible. need them all to know she’s mine.
“Tell me what to expect,” she says quietly.
“Well, technically Xochtl is your alpha. You have a contract with her. You work for her. So, for you and the pups to be able to stay in this part of the city, we need her permission,”
“Seriously?” she sighs exasperated.
“Yes. She’s going to question you and you just have to tell her the truth. Tell her what happened with the Nanny and Ruin. You were in her territory and broke the laws when I brought you here without telling her. She might be upset with us. Feral wolves are very possessive of those under their protection,”
“Wow, okay,” she nods and takes a couple of deep breaths. “Where are the twins?”

Chapter 33
“With my parents. They’re safe. I have betas all over. No one is going to go near them tonight. They look adorable,”
“Your mom got carried away playing dress up with them,”
“Yeah, there is little I can do to stop her from that,”
“They love the attention,” she waves it off. “Okay, I’m ready,”
“Good. Let’s get this over with,” I take her in one more time and let out a heavy sigh.
“Do you not like it?” she asks sweeping her hand down her belly.
“Angel, the problem is that I like it way too much and the thought of others liking it as much as me is threatening to turn me into a violent idiot,”
“A little part of me wants to offer a change of clothes,”
“Tell that little part of you to shut up because there is no way in hell I’m letting you change,”
“What if your wolf does the thing he did in the elevator? That doesn’t look normal,” she says worriedly.
I don’t know how to tell her that it’s a good thing for him to react like that in front of these people so they’re reminded of exactly who the fuck they’re going to be dealing with if any of them try to take either of them from me.
I love the way she takes my hand tightly as we make our way down the stairs. Everything has been moved around to accommodate our guests. I can’t help staring at her. Not just because she’s gorgeous, but because I can’t believe she’s here.

Every notion that comes with her being my mate was buried deep down the moment I walked out,of that apartment without so much as saying goodbye. I wasn’t ready for her then and I don’t know if I’m ready now, but I have to be. For her and for our beautiful kids.
“Mommy,” they both run over to us.
Ayrie has on a soft yellow dress. Her long curls are pinned back forming a pile of curls on the top of her head. She stops in front of me holding her hands up and I can’t deny her a single thing. I lift her tucking her into my side. I fix the fluff of her dress so I don’t wrinkle it. Her little fingers find the back of my neck and she starts messing with my collar.
Aizen is dressed similarly to me. He looks very handsome. He just holds his hand up for Phoebe to take. My mom doesn’t hesitate to take pictures of us together like this. Phoebe tries to hide how embarrassing my mom is. My dad notices and comes to our rescue.
“Maria,” he pulls her to him.
“They just look so cute,” she coos.
“Grandma is funny,” Ayrie giggles.
Phoebe visibly tenses up when alpha Xochtl and her two main betas approach us. As expected, she’s not exactly happy to see her at my side. My mate doesn’t know the laws of our world or the predicament we’ve found ourselves in. Like it or not, legally, Phoebe belongs to her. She’s an asset. A really expensive fucking asset protected not only by this Feral alpha female but the treaty we have with the humans.
“Alpha Xochtl,” I greet her.
“Alpha Blake,” she sighs. “Phoebe,”
“Xochtl,” Phoebe greets her. The alpha’s eyes land on my mate’s neck.
“Do you mind if we take a walk?” she brings her eyes up to mine.
“I do mind,” I say stepping forward.
“I don’t have to remind you that you took this human from my territory and marked her without the proper”
