Ignoring Griffin’s obstruction, he picked up the phone to call me. But on the other end, a mechanical voice said the number was turned off.
“Griffin, what did you do to my mom? She’s never turned off her phone before.”
Something must have happened. Tell me, what did you do to her?”
Griffin glared at him with malice.
“Jasper, don’t be ungrateful. I admit, I gave her a lesson.”
“Son, you’re a man. You can’t be soft–hearted. This is your first lesson from me. You must be willing to act, even against the closest people.”
“Son, if it weren’t for your mom’s selfishness, using you to threaten me, you wouldn’t have lived like this for so many years.”

“You are my son, Griffin’s son, yet you live worse than a rat in the gutter. Now, you can have any woman you want.”
Jasper’s face darkened. Dad was right, but that was still Mom, the mother who’d been with him for so many years.
He secretly wished his parents could remarry and he could have a complete family. So he agreed with Griffin to make Mom compromise, falsely claiming debt to ease their relationship.
He loved his mom, knowing she’d never leave him no matter what. But if Dad was around…
Yet, Jasper felt hurt thinking about how Mom didn’t want to pay for his education after he failed an exam. Without Dad’s timely help, he might be delivering takeout, living a cockroach–like life.
It turned out, between money and his future, Mom chose money.
Suddenly, he realized it was just as Dad said. He was nothing but an excuse for Mom to collect high alimony.
All the sacrifices she made raising him were fake and hypocritical.
If she truly loved him, she wouldn’t have dragged him around, suffering in obscurity!
Dad’s plan gave him a sense of revenge. Watching Mom get framed, becoming a design assistant, and seeing her hair turn gray from financial
worry…
If it weren’t for Dad’s timely intervention, I might be delivering takeout right now, scraping by in a miserable existence.
It became clear that when faced with a choice between my future and money, Mom would choose money.
Suddenly, I realized, just as Dad had said, I was merely a pretext for Mom to demand high child support every month.
All her talk about raising me with hardship was nothing but lies.
If she truly loved me, she wouldn’t have dragged me around, struggling among ordinary people!
When Dad proposed his plan to me, I felt a thrill of revenge.
i watched as my mom was falsely accused, demoted to a design assistant, and saw her hair turn gray from worrying about money.
She deserved it, Cora did.
In the past five years, she’s been really stubborn, never asking Griffin for help despite the hardships.
Looking at Mom’s graying hair, I hesitated. She loves me, right? Maybe there wasn’t as much of a conflict of interest between us.
But now.
“Our mother–son bond is over.”
Suddenly, there was a hollow feeling. Yes, it was the feeling of being abandoned.
Griffin kept talking to himself.
“Don’t you see through your mom yet? She bolted when she realized she had to bear more debts!”
Who knows if she’s not leaning on some old man now.”
“I know your mom too well. She’s the kind of woman who’ll do anything to climb up using men.”
“Stop it.”
“Stop it.”
“She’s my mom; she wouldn’t abandon me.”
