Chapter 31
With Diana, nothing is straightforward. Trust her actions, not her words”
Amanda Morris’s warning echoed in my mind as I stalked through Victory Center’s glass doors, my body still weak from my recent collapse
Despite doctor’s onder to rest for forty–eight hours. I’d drønced myself out of the hospital after just one night.
Diana kept pace beside me, constantly checking her phone.
She helped us expose Robert, provided evidence against Palmer, even defended my position at the firm when Victoria tried to get me fined. Yet I still couldn’t fully trust her. Her loyalties shifted with the winds of power and profit
“Meeting Palmer for settlement negotiations feels like walking into the lion’s den again,” I muttered, adjusting my blazer to hide how badly my hands were shaking-
After everything–the mountain escape, Roberts arrest, Rachel’s threats Palmer was still somehow dictating the tempo of this twisted game.
Diana’s perfectly manicured fingers smoothed her Chanel suit. “This is high–level corporate law, darling. Yesterday’s enemy is today’s potential resolution
Every step sent pain shooting through my body. The doctor had warned about the combined effects of physical exhaustion and medication withdrawal, but
had no choice
Caspian had postponed all negotiations until I recovered, refusing to meet with Palmer or his representatives. His loyalty had cost him precious pre–season. training time–time 1 couldn’t let him waste.
The glass elevator carried us upward, offering panoramic views of Manhattan including the distant American football field where Caspian normally trained.
The irony was brutal–he was missing practice to meet with Blake and Amanda, gathering more evidence against Palmer, while 1 risked everything to salvage
his contract.
“Are you sure you can handle this? Diana asked, studying my reflection. “Palmer isn’t a merciful opponent. He’ll use your physical weakness against you.”
1 straightened my shoulders. Im done being manipulated.
Jeffrey Palmer sat behind a massive glass desk like a king on his throne, surrounded by Warriors memorabilia. The floor–to–ceiling windows framed Manhattan’s skyline behind him–the city literally beneath his feet.
“Ms. Winters,” he greeted with mock concern. “What a surprise. I heard you had an… unpleasant hospital stay.”
Diana stepped forward with practiced ease. “Jeffrey, thank you for making time for us.”
The door behind Palmer opened soundlessly. Victor Chambers slipped in, positioning himself like a well–trained attack dog.
“Ms. Winters,” Chambers smiled coldly. “Recovered from your… overmedication?”
Palmer leaned back, I expected Mr. Drake personally. These contract terms directly affect his future.
“Caspian trusts our judgment, Diana replied smoothly.
“Trust?” Palmer laughed. “After that mountain fiasco? After all my generous offers?”
I noticed a folder on Palmer’s desk containing a photograph of me in my hospital bed. Someone had been watching even there. My
by blood boiled
We know what you’re doing.” I said, meeting his gaze. “Just like we know you hired Robert Miller to harass me and were working with Rachel to continue
Chamber smirked. This sounds like drug induced paranoia. Perhaps we should question Ms. Winders mental fitness to practice law.”
suddenly
Palmer, my colleague is still recovering. Perhaps I should discuss more practical solutions with you privately:
I turned to bet in shock. “What?
This ant the time, age, Diana hissed. “We need to handle this professionally.”
atched Diana a calculated movements as we waited for Palmer resume
Chapter 31
One moment she fought for me, the next she seemed ready to throw me to the wolves.
Her survival instincts were legendary at Morgan & Wright–I just couldnt tell if today I was an ally or collateral damage
Palmer watched our discord with obvious satisfaction. “Ladies, this disagreement is fascinating. Ms. Wright, I’ve always appreciated your pragmatic approach.”
