What did you expect from this?” I ask him. “What do you want from me?”
“I want you to come home.” Alpha Rizen says. “I want to know you. You look just like your mother.”
“If you weren’t the reason why she sent me away, then why would she?”
“I don’t know. I don’t even know who your father is. It sure as fuck wasn’t her mate. She made it clear from the start that she wanted nothing to do with him.” I wonder why.
“If you want to contact me, it will be with the supervision of my mate. He’s a little crazy, and I really don’t like upsetting him. This man is his father.” I point at Mr. Knightly.
“We’re on the same side,” he reminds me.
“Right, Nathan Knightly’s.” I agree. “If he finds out about this, and he will. I am literally going to sit on his lap and tell him all about what you did. He’s going to be pissed. So you might want to put something together to get on his good side.
“Until then, because of this stunt you pulled, you are not allowed to come anywhere near my family and me. This man,” I motion Mr. Knightly, “At least had the decency to call so I can gather my shit without panicking. I want to go home now.”
“Where is my driver?” Mr. Knightly asks.
“I killed him,” the red–haired woman answers him.
I scream when his hand lashes out, and the guard closest to us falls to the floor with his throat ripped out.
“I don’t kill her because she’s one of the King’s dogs. An eye for an eye. Give me his body so that I can take him back to his family.” He reaches down to wipe the blood on his hand on the body bleeding out on the floor. I groan and reach into my purse for my scarf and hand sanitizer.
“I knew this was going to come in handy eventually.” I scold him and wave his hand over. He lets me pour it all over his hand before taking the scarf. “You’re an animal. You just killed that guy.”
“They killed my driver. It’s fair,” he shrugs as if he didn’t just rip that man’s throat out without even breaking a sweat.
“You’re insane,” I roll my eyes.
A cellphone rings, and it takes me a moment to realize it’s mine. Someone must have changed my ringtone. Knight’s picture pops up on my screen, and I look up at Alpha Rizen.
“Angel, are you okay? Are you hurt?” he rushes out.
“I’m fine. This whole trip was stupid.” I glare at his father. He just smirks.

“I’m outside. Who’s in there with you?”
“It’s Alpha Rizen. I told him to fuck off already, but feel free to come get me. You are not going to believe what your dad tried to pull.”
“Fucking dramatic.” Mr. Knightly scoffs.
“Me? I’m being dramatic? You helped me get all my things together, and you were just going to set it on fire because I did the thing you literally do to everyone? On top of being insane, you’re a hypocrite. Knight, please come get me before I throw my purse at his head.”
“She’s fine. Let’s get an extraction before the wolf comes out.” Knightly laughs. “I’m coming, Angel.”
I stuff my phone in my pocket and stare at the man who is supposed to be my grandfather. This is awkward. I don’t know what to say to him. I never wanted to meet the man, and yet, there he is, standing there as if I owe him something.
“You can’t just be a rogue. They’re actively hunted,” he says. He raises his hand, and his men lower their weapons as the door behind us is opened. “Rogues don’t live very long. Knightlys are often right in the middle of wars.”
“Alpha Rizen, I’ve been a rogue my entire life. As a matter of fact, up until recently, I thought I was human. I’ve been through some shit not just in the past four months, but since I was a kid. I was treated like an object without knowing. I was taken advantage of by people like you. I’m tired of listening to everyone telling me what I must be doing. I’ve been okay so far. I’ll be fine.”
“There is so much you don’t know,” he shakes his head. “I just want to teach you. I have no one else.”
“It’s not that bad.” I shrug. “I had no one my entire life. I turned out okay.”
I step away from Mr. Knightly as Knight moves past me at an impressive speed. His fist connects with his father’s face. Mr. Knightly stumbles, and I have to turn away
because that was brutal.
“If you ever try to pull some shit like that again, I will fucking end you.” he kicks his side so he can roll over onto his back and hits him again. When he pulls back, Mr. Knightly takes advantage and kicks him off.
“This is what you’re settling for?” Alpha Rizen scoffs.
“Settling?” I laugh. “You know nothing about us. If I were you, I’d pay more attention to your own house. You seem to be just at the point where you can start over one more time. Have another kid with your mate or whatever.”
“I don’t have a mate. He murdered her.” he points at Mr. Knightly, who is lying on the floor, unconscious. Fuck, it’s very difficult to be his friend sometimes.
“Get a new one. I hear most she–wolves would do anything to get with an alpha. Pick a cute one.”

I stop when I see Knight dressed in all black: black cargo pants, black combat boots, a black T–shirt, a cavalier vest, and a baseball cap. There’s a camera collar around his neck. There is something seriously wrong with me because, holy hell. He’s beautiful.
“Are you okay?” he comes over to me, cupping my face to look me over.
“You are a very vicious, perky woman,” the lady who escorted us in laughs. She holds her hand out for me. “Lyla Bennette, Acting Beta of Northstorm. It’s an honor to meet you, Alpha Rizen. I hope to see more of you. Your mom and I were close once.”
“Do you know who my father is?” I ask.
“Oh, yeah. I advised her to stop fucking around with that guard.” she looks over at Knight and laughs. “The heart wants what it wants, I guess.”
I offer her my card. She looks down at it, almost confused.
“It’s just a card.” I laugh.
“You even laugh like her.” She shakes her head. “Did you do magic?”
“What? No, I always have some in my pocket.” I hold up the other ones there. “I’m a mom. Preparation is key to a good day.”
“I’ll see you around, kid,” she grins. “Wrap it up!”
I almost jump out of my skin when she shouts. I shake the ringing she caused in my ears. Knight takes my hand and pulls me closer to him as they exit. Alpha Rizen is the last to move. His eyes stay on me, and I can’t hold his gaze. I look away from him and wrap my arms around my mate. He places his hand on the top of my head.
“Wait,” I call out to the old man. He whips around without hesitation. “Do you own this building?”
“Yes,” he nods.
“Do you want it?”
“I’m sorry?” he scrunched his thick but naturally sculpted eyebrows.
“I want to buy this building. I want this to be my first clothing store. My financial advisor is on the floor over there, but you’d have to deal with him.” I clear my throat.
“He has my number.”
“You should carry cards.” I offer him mine. “Always be prepared. It’s very
unprofessional to whip out your phone for an information exchange. I even make my assistant carry them in case I run out.”
“That’d sound advise.” he smiles.
“Remember, supervised visitation until you’re cleared by the big guy.” I smack Knight’s
vest.
“Got it,” he smirks and leaves with his waiting beta. I wave at her when she looks in my direction.

“One of these days, yelling at people like that is going to get me killed.” I rest my head against Knight’s chest.
“It is,” Mr. Knightly groans from behind Knight. I lean over to see him picking himself up.
“I told you all that rage goes into working out and practicing to hurt people.” I shy away when he presses against his jaw, and it snaps back into place. “Knight, you broke his jaw.”
“He tried to make you cry. He’s lucky that’s all I did. Come on. Let’s get you home. We need to find you a new guard. Maybe we can get one of the Lycans to do it.”
“Oh, that nice Beta. Kennedy. She was cool as fuck and she hates being around Silas.”
“I’ll run it by her.” He crouches down, and for a second, I think he’s going to tie his shoe. His arms come around my waist, and he lifts me over his shoulder.
“I’m not hurt.” I remind him.
“I don’t care. You were just kidnapped. You’re staying up there while we clean this up.”
“And if I want to get down?”
“Your ass is right next to my face” he snorts. “Just give me a reason, Angel.”
