What a day. First training session in a new pack and I manage to break some guy’s nose. Way to make friends, Aria.
Could that Dominic guy be any more of a jerk? “Now you see the difference between werewolves and humans? Seriously? I’ve been dealing with that attitude my whole life.
And of course, Alpha Jace had to be watching the whole thing. Did really need to pull the knife? Gabriel would say yes–never hesitate when threatened.
I swear that growl he let out could’ve shaken the mountains. It was like thunder rolling through my bones.
The weirdest part? When he touched my face to check that cut, it felt like electricity. I’ve never reacted to anyone that way before.
At least I proved I can handle myself. Let’s see if anyone else wants to test the “weak human” after today’s little demonstration.
After washing up, I changed into my forest–green suede pants and cream–colored linen top. The cool fabric felt good against my skin after the intensity of training. I gently dabbed at the small cut above my eyebrow where Dominic had managed to land a hit. It was already healing.
Gabriel was out with the border patrol, and Lucas had stayed behind to chat with some warriors. Perfect time to explore my new home without their hovering.
The Whitmans‘ house wasn’t hard to find–Gabriel had shown us yesterday. These were Isabella’s parents, who had helped arrange our sanctuary with Moon Shadow Pack. Though I’d never met Isabella, Gabriel’s late wife, her parents had always considered me family.
Mrs. Whitman enveloped me in a warm hug when she opened the door.
“Aria! We were hoping you’d visit soon,” she said, ushering me inside. “How are you settling in?”
“Still adjusting,” I admitted, accepting the tea she offered. “But everyone’s been welcoming… mostly.”
Her eyes narrowed. “Mostly?”
I shrugged, fingering the rim of my teacup. “Just a warrior who didn’t appreciate getting beaten by a human girl.”
Mr. Whitman laughed from his armchair. “Gabriel’s guidance has really paid off. Don’t let anyone make you feel less because you’re
human.”

“You have a wolf’s spirit in a human body,” Mrs. Whitman added softly, reaching across to squeeze my hand. Isabella would have loved you.”
My heart warmed at her words. We chatted easily as they shared stories about my adoptive family. When I mentioned my love for singing and spending time with pups, Mrs. Whitman brightened.
“You should visit the pup center! It’s near the main pack house–they’re always looking for help with the little ones.”
I could hear the laughter before I even reached the pup center. Young werewolves of various ages played, read, and practiced simple combat moves under supervision. Several turned to stare curiously as I entered.
You’re the human!” a little boy with wild curls exclaimed, pointing at me with wide eyes.

Before I could respond, a smart figure barreled into my legs, looking up with familiar eyes.
“You saved me yesterday!” Aurora, Alpha Jace’s daughter, beamed. “Remember? On the stairs!”
1 knelt to her level, smiling at her enthusiasm. “Of course I remember, princess. How are you today?”
“I’m great! Will you play with us?” She grabbed my hand, tugging me toward a circle of pups.
I let her lead me, unable to resist her infectious energy. Soon, I was surrounded by little werewolves, all eager for attention from the “interesting human.” When one asked if I knew any songs, I couldn’t resist.
I began with an old werewolf lullaby Gabriel had taught me years age. My voice rose clear and strong, filling the small plaza outside the center. Aurora climbed into my lap, her small body warm against mine as she swayed to the melody.
