Chapter 134
It’s dark out and Midnight is all riled up because of what we just did to Knight. He’s happily alseep at the moment, but I can’t bring myself to get any rest. Maybe it’s the nerves for tomorrow’s heist, but my body feels wired.
My phone pings somewhere. I don’t remember what I did to with it. I look around the room and it’s nowhere in sight. It’s not my phone. It’s his. A name pops up on the screen. Eloise. I ignore it and go searching for my phone. I find it in my studio. Knowing that I’m not going to sleep. I clean up the mess we made. When I get back to the room, Knight is in the shower. I go back to where I had been standing at the window and wait for him
to come out.
“Hey, you okay?” he asks coming out of the shower with a towel wrapped around his hips.
“Yeah,” I nod. “I was just cleaning up my studio. Is everything okay with you?”
“Something came up.” he says going over to the closet. He reaches for his suits. “I have to go to Lockwood City for a couple of days.”
“Am I allowed to ask?”
“It’s related to the KNAVE. I have her tracing a couple of accounts that went missing before Perry could get into the servers. We have a new special tech designer and Phurry’s attention is in trying to track him down. She got a ping on a location and I have to check it out.” he starts getting dressed. He never calls Perry by her last name or former last name.
“Is it going to be dangerous?”
He stops moving and gives me his full attention.
“Shit.” he scratches the back of his neck. “I’m sorry. I just agreed to go without thinking it through. It’s just that it’s been too long since anything has happened with this and I want to know how bad things can potentially get because of what we did.”
“I get it. I just-” I shrug.
“I’ve never had to think about it before,” he sits on the bed. “I can postpone this until your things are found.”
“Perry is going to set them on fire in the middle of the courtyard after she robs the Werewolf Treasury later.” I admit. “It’s my first promo and she wanted to be a part of it.”
“That is fucking crazy, Angel.” he shakes his head. “After everything you did earlier to preserve the surprise, you just spill it all out, huh?”
“You had a role to play. The concerned and supportive mate. Your parents thought it was brilliant. Arnold didn’t think you could do it if you knew.”
“What a dick.” he rolls his eyes. “I going to stay.” he reaches for his phone. I get to it before he does. “Phoebe.”
“How important is this? If it puts our family in danger, it’s more important than a fake press thing. I wanted to know if it was going to be dangerous so you can take someone with you. You can’t just go alone.”
“This is important and it implicates more than just our family, but keeping up appearances is very important for this. If we’re scheduled to be somewhere and we’re not we can arise suspition.”
“To who?”
“We don’t know. Not completely. We know that the KNAVE was a branch of something much bigger and that the Wraith worked for someone else. He was just the architect of what we became and how we reformed the council. We’re all wondering when it’s all going to cash in. An operation this big can’t just be overlooked. But it can wait. It’ll eventually show itself. I just want to know something solid. Something that might be able to help
us.”
“You should run this by Perry. She said she had information. Maybe she has a little more than some lost accounts and if you’re both working on this together, it’ll be harder to get the best of you. If this is as big as you say it is, looking into it alone might not be a good idea.”
“Perry has been keeping that information from us for a reason. She doesn’t do things on a whim. It looks that way because she’s crazy. This involves her part in all of this. We all had different roles to play. Perry was our inventor and Mackenzie was essentially her over achieving intern.
“Roman and Baby run the guns. They’re both expert marksman and insanely charasmatic when it comes to getting away with shit. Violetta was always in charge of the money. She’s really good at it and the Wraith didn’t trust anyone else with it.
“The former Rogue King and I had the same task. We were to make sure everyone was properly trained and doing what they were supposed to be. When I hesitated the first time, I was demoted. The Rogue King would take on the heavier missions and it was my job to clean up after hun.
“Then we had to log all of it. Detailed reports. Strategies used and the cost of equipment. It was all data and he never used it for anything but the accounts that went missing. Those were mine specifically. As soon as the system rebooted they were downloaded somewhere else and removed from everything I ever used to access them. It was like they never existed.
“I know whatever Perry is hiding from is going to be fucked because all of the information defines our history as we know it be now. The people we 1/2

killed and the people we used to replace them. The results of what we did. All that was in those accounts and someone else has them now.” he runs his hand through his hair and it would be distracting if I didn’t have the weird feeling I do.
“I think it’s time for you to ask her for the information she has. It seemed like she really wanted to tell us when we got home after we got the kids back. Tell her that you gave some information to Eloise. I don’t think she’s going to like that. Perry and Violetta both hate that girl.”
“Yeah, it was her family that ruined yours. Her father to be exact and she’s taken a huge part of Violetta’s family’s business. Vy obviously doesn’t need the money, but with the packs it’s always a pride issue.
“Eloise is a part of this. What happened to her wasn’t a coincidence. While I was logging things in, the Wraith had me log older files. Stuff from the teams that came before us. She was mentioned.
“She was supposed to die, but your father found her before they could use her to track down her mate so they could kill him as well. He was the target. They wanted to use their DNA to create these super soldiers. She’s powerful so they assumed her mate would be as well. It all went to shit when Tech Lockwood couldn’t put her down despite her going feral when she shifted.
“After taking over the city, Eloise discovered my oldest account and she contacted me not knowing who I was. This was before Perry setup the new codes to make the entire system disappear. The first person to ever hack a KNAVE file. She has a team, they’re all hardcore gamers who grew up to be the alphas of their city. She has to know because she could be in as much danger as the rest of us.”
“Then you definitely should tell the others. This isn’t something you guys should keep to yourselves. It’s a team effort. You’ve been looking for the accounts with Perry’s tech, but a gamer girl and her team found it. Sounds sketchy.
“You’re right.”
“If you’re going, not it on telling Ayrie you’re going to be missing her first recidal.” I place my hand on his bare chest and lean in for a kiss.
“I can’t go. You’re right, it might be a trap. I’ve never had to think about it. The danger, I mean. I don’t know how to be careful.” he admits. “Well,” I sit beside him. “Then it’s a good thing that careful is kind of my middle name,”
