Liana had always had a silver tongue, and Lilith had always given in to her, so eventually she had submitted to Liana’s persuasion and sought permission from their homeroom teacher to go to the hospital to get some IV drips

Lilith could not understand why they had to go to the hospital for IV drips when the school clinic would have been fine. Besides, she was capable of going to the hospital alone

As soon as they cleared the school gate, Liana was instantly liberated like a bird released from its cage

It only hit Lilith now why Liana was being overly emphathetic to say that her cold was so severe that she required someone to accompany her to a proper hospital for a checkup

At first Philbert was doubtful, but seeing Lilith’s pale face, he eventually gave in and instructed Lilith to inform him if she was unwell at any point

Liana had not forgotten about why they left class either. She quickly hailed a taxi and took Lilith’s hand as they headed to the hospital

Due to the change in seasons and the sudden flu outbreak, many people had been catching colds lately. The hospital was nearing full capacity. Even if there were any vacancies, they would be given to those in greater need

Lilith sat on a chair. She felt a cold needle awkardly pierce through her skin. The jab was done by a new trainee nurse. It took three jabs in total for her to insert the needle into the correct vein as she was too nervous. The back of Lilith’s hand was already swollen, with some blood oozing out

Liana was standing at a corner. Her face was filled with anger, but she understood that the nurse did not do it intentionally, so she held her tongue. The nurse kept apologizing sincerely. At that point, Lilith was already immuned to the pain, so she smiled and reassured her, It’s fine, take your time.”

After the nurse left, Liana couldn’t help but mutter about her under her breath

With three IV bags were to be administered, Liana went downstairs to grab some snacks and fruits after Lilith had finished the first. On her way back up, she ran into a familiar figure. It was Halford

The two casually exchanged greetings at the stairwell. When Liana mentioned that she was here to accompany Lilith for a checkup, Halford asked if he could pay her a visit

Before they reached the door, Lilith could already hear voices and laughter echoing down the corridor. Lilith glanced in their direction and was surprised to see Halford. It didn’t take her long to realize that Nigel was likely here. A flicker of concern crossed her mind regarding his leg

Halford took a glance around the surroundings, and then looked at Lilith. It seemed like he was not accustomed to the crowded and noisy environment of the hospital. He furrowed his brow and said, Come with me upstairs, the ward is big enough anyway.”

Sure.” Liana agreed on Lilith’s behalf before she could refuse

Lilith attempted to refuse the offer again when Halford called the nurse in to help with the set up of the IV drip as well as the other things. The nurse was already heading towards the elevator before Lilith could even have a chance to speak

When they entered the ward, Nigel was reading a book about popular science on time and space. It was to Lilith’s surprise that Nigel would be interested in something like that

Nigel seemed to be ill as well. He had a catheter in his hand and his face was looking slightly pale and weak. He occasionally covered his mouth as he let out a slight cough

Liana’s gaze was almost glued to him. When she snapped out of it, she noticed Lilith was staring at the polished floor silently. as if she was lost in her thought

Halford clicked his tongue. Before Nigel could start questioning, he started rambling

This guy is always like this. Sometimes he is a staunch believer in science, a hardcore materialist. Other times, he goes completely off the rails and randomly spends his days at church without praying.”

Such a weirdo. That’s why over the years I am his only true friendHalford sighed. Just cherish me and enjoy your time with me, will you?”

Nigel closed his book after Halford finished rambling. He lifted his head as he said, Are you done talking

Halford dared not reply

There was an intimidating intensity in his stare as if it bore an immense weight, leaving Halford immediately silenced and deflated

Lilith sat still like a statue at the sofa in the corner. For a moment, the only sound ringing in the spacious ward was the drip of the IV fluid. Deep inside, she was regretting coming to the hospital

Halford and Nigel were playing video games in a room within the ward. The soundproofing was great, making it almost impossible to hear anything

This was a private ward reserved for Nigel. It was a large room with complete facilities and even came with a room likely meant for the caregivers. Unlike typical hospital rooms, it didn’t smell like disinfectant, instead it was filled with a faint floral fragrance

Lilith’s back and neck was starting to hurt after staring at the floor for a long time. Lilith swiftly lifted her head up and stretched a little. When she looked up, she saw a bunch of white camellias on the table accompanied by some other flowers. The flowers gave a very pure and innocent vibe

Lilith felt awkward staring at the flowers. As she shifted her gaze away, she made eye contact with Nigel

This time, there was no door beween them, nor was there any breeze to intervene. Stuck between them was only still air

Lilith stared at him, a little taken aback. For a moment she lost her ability to react. Fortunately, Nigel had just happened to look in her direction. He quickly lowered his head and his fingers continued moving swiftly across the tablet like he was seemingly engrossed in his work

The IV drip had finished. When Lilith wanted to ask Liana to fetch a nurse, a group of doctors and nurses arrived for their rounds. The leading doctor was a mature and composed specialist. He professionally inquired about Nigel’s condition of his legs while noting them down on his record book and offered some advice and instructions regarding his overall physical condition

Nigel simply listened, offering no reaction, occasionally offer a small absentminded nod. His mind seemed to be elsewhere

A nurse standing on the side noticed Lilith and offered to help her remove the needle. She was an experienced and steady senior nurse. Her movements were swift yet gentle, and she even cleaned the small trace of dried blood that had remained on the back of her hand with a moist cotton swab

Lilith thanked her politely. She smiled and replied, You’re welcome.”

Lilith sent a text to Liana to inform her that she was done. A few minutes later, Liana came out from the room, followed by Halford. A radiant smile was hanging on her face, while Halford appeared dejected

I’ll definitely beat you next time.”

Tsk tsk.Liana laughed arrogantly. You wish. Stop daydreaming”

After a few playful remarks, Liana walked over to Lilith and asked, Is it done?”

Lilith nodded. Shall we head back to school?”
