Nova’s moans came clearly through the wall, mixed with Sebastian’s passionate growls.

My neck–where Sebastian had marked me–was bleeding. The mate bond between us made each sound of their lovemaking a fresh torment.
As the moans continued, I curled up in agony. The feeling of betrayal was like my soul being torn apart piece by piece. The overwhelming pain tortured me until I passed out.
I’m not sure how much time had passed.
When I woke up from unconsciousness, Sebastian was sitting by my bed.
His eyes were filled with pain. “Aurora… I’m sorry for everything you’ve been through.”
I struggled to sit up and took a sip of cold water. “It’s nothing,”
I would be free from all this.
Three days ago, I had submitted my petition for terminating the matebond to the supreme authority governing all werewolf packs.

“About what we discussed earlier…” he held my hand with guilt, “You know there’s only one spot left at the Werewolf Academy this year. Nova’s child wants to attend too. Robert can wait until next year.”
“Fine,” I replied flatly.
It didn’t matter anyway. I would soon leave with Robert, so none of this mattered anymore.
Surprise flickered in his eyes. Then, as usual, he hugged me and said, “Don’t worry. Tomorrow is our fifth anniversary. I promise I’ll be here, just us and Robert. A proper family day.”
I didn’t respond. I knew tomorrow would be just like every other day–something unexpected would come up, and he’d end up in Nova’s room instead..
Three years ago, Sebastian was revealed as the former Alpha’s illegitimate son. When his father and legitimate brother died in battle, he suddenly inherited everything. Just like that, the rogue from the wastelands became the powerful Alpha of the Silver Wing Pack.

“Most pack members don’t respect me yet, and my brother’s Luna, Nova, holds too much influence. I need to keep her happy, at least for now,” he’d told me while holding my hand.
I tried telling him the truth–that I was the heir to the United Kingdom of Golden Moon, that if I just swallowed my pride and returned to my father, I could help him gain all the respect he
wanted.
But when I told him, all I saw in his eyes was cold disappointment.
“Aurora, you’d really make up such lies just to keep me from other women?”
Ever since then, he never trusted me again.
Over the past three years, he’d played the dutiful brother–in–law, helping Nova raise her daughter. But everything changed when she started making advances. He eventually gave in to her desperate plea to sleep with her so she could give birth to a son.
“I don’t have a choice. She’s all alone now–she needs more
children to fill the void in her life.”
Through my tears, I pleaded, “There are other ways. You could help her find a strong warrior, someone to build a new family with. It doesn’t have to be you.”

When I saw the admiration in his eyes, my heart ached so much I could barely breathe.
Sebastian’s touch yanked me from my memories.
“Aurora, you know I love you. My relationship with Nova is only because of my duty as a brother and an Alpha.”
He tried to kiss me.
His scent of maple and vodka filled the air.
“Sorry, I’m not in the mood.” When his lips touched mine, I felt nothing but disgust.
His hand slipped under my nightgown, using his Alpha
dominance to control me. “Don’t lie, my little she–wolf. I know you want this…”
“Alpha, Luna Nova is having nightmares and crying for you!” came the maid’s urgent voice from outside.
Sebastian jumped up in a panic. “I have to go. Aurora, just…hang in there, okay? I’ll make it up to you another time.”
He fastened his belt and slammed the door on his way out.

I collapsed helplessly onto the bed.

I’ve endured this humiliation countless times over the past three
years.
I should be numb to it by now.
