“Sis–in–law, you’re finally here!”
“Lucas passed out, but we still can’t find the bracelet. What should we do…”
I showed no emotion as I reached out to touch the pool.
The members–only high–end club had a temperature–controlled pool 365 days a year, but now the water felt as cold as ice.
Jack explained that the club’s temperature control system had coincidentally malfunctioned.
I could see the malice hidden in his eyes.
I nodded slightly, having noticed the phone he kept clutching in his hand.
Before coming, I had already put on a swimsuit underneath.
After a few laps in the pool, I indeed found the bracelet near the drain.
But just as I retrieved the bracelet and was about to climb out, someone stepped on my hand.
I jerked my hand away in pain, and a figure screamed as they fell into the water.
Caught off guard, I was suddenly pushed underwater. Water rushed into my nose and mouth, nearly suffocating me.

Before I lost consciousness, I vaguely saw someone jump into the water, swimming in the opposite direction from me.
Perhaps it was my strong survival instinct, but at the last moment, I managed to grab onto the pool’s edge.
As I surfaced, someone grabbed my arm and pulled me onto the deck.
Lucas was holding Bella in his arms. He slapped me across the face:
“Sophia, do you realize you almost killed Bella!”
“It’s my fault the bracelet was lost, but why did you try to hurt Bella!”
I lay on the ground, coughing and retching. My ears were ringing so loudly that his angry words seemed distant.
Lucas handed Bella to Jack.
With red eyes, he grabbed my neck:
“Stop pretending. If anything happens to Bella today, I’ll make you pay with your life!”
Seeing that I was still clutching the bracelet tightly, he snatched it away. I hugged his legs, sobbing and pleading through my coughs: “Please,
don’t!”
His expression was ice–cold:
“This is your punishment.”
With a forceful tug, he broke the bracelet into two pieces.
“Lucas, don’t blame Sophia. She was just embarrassed about what happened at the party and wanted to get back at me a little.”
“We’re both women, I can understand.”
Lucas angrily threw the broken bracelet to the ground. He carefully picked up Bella:
“Don’t defend her. You’re just too kind–hearted.”
The group hurriedly left. Jack took the opportunity to snap several photos of me.
He made a “98” gesture to someone nearby, and they both laughed so hard they could barely stand up straight.
I held the broken bracelet tightly to my chest, tears falling in large drops onto the floor.
All the hurt I had been holding back now burst forth like a flood breaking through a dam.
Let it hurt more, until all the love turns into hate.
Lucas, I will forget everything from the past.
Never, ever will I love you again!

I don’t know how long I was unconscious, but when I woke up, Lucas had returned.
He felt my forehead and frowned, saying, “You have a fever. Why didn’t you take any medicine?”

<
Before I could react, he had already put a pill in my mouth.
“Drink some water.”
Seeing that I had swallowed the pill, he said impatiently:
“Don’t try to use this little trick to make me feel sorry for you.”
“Bella has been frail since childhood, and she’s gentle–natured. Don’t bully her just because you’re my girlfriend.”
I opened my mouth, my throat feeling like I had swallowed razor blades: “I didn’t.”
“She stepped on my hand first.”
Lucas suddenly stood up: “Don’t lie. Bella would never do something like that.”
“Sophia, you really disappoint me?
He left the room without hesitation. I smiled bitterly.
From beginning to end, his heart only had room for Bella.
Why should I bother explaining?
But soon after, not only did my fever not subside, but my body started itching again.
Blood had seeped through my pajamas. I rolled up my sleeves to see deep scratch marks all over my arms.
Realizing something was wrong, I quickly forced myself to take a taxi to the hospital.
Just as I entered the emergency room, my vision went black, and I lost consciousness completely.
When I woke up again, I was in a hospital room.
The doctor looked at my medical records and asked why I hadn’t taken any medication when my fever was so high.
He also said that it was fortunate I had come in time, otherwise the consequences could have been unimaginable.
I took out the pill from my bag, the one Lucas had left on the table.
The doctor examined it and frowned, saying, “We’ll need to run tests to know exactly what’s in this.”
“But I can say for certain, this is definitely not a fever reducer.”
He continued, “I suspect that your allergic symptoms worsened instead of improving because of this pill.”
My heart sank. Was Lucas trying to kill me?
For Bella’s sake, he was actually capable of going this far.
In the hallway, I could hear Jack’s loud voice: “99 times, Lucas. My plan was brilliant, right?”
As Lucas entered the room, he was clearly telling Jack to shut up.
The doctor had already left with the pill. At my request, he agreed to keep this matter confidential,
I pretended to have just woken up from a deep sleep.
Lucas’s expression showed a hint of guilt, and he was holding a bouquet of flowers.
“Why didn’t you call me when you came to the hospital? Are you feeling better now?”
<
I turned my head away coldly and said, “I’m fine.”
Lucas looked uncomfortable. After a while, he asked again, “Why was the house such a mess?”
“There were too many things. I was thinking of clearing some out.”
Jack coughed lightly, his eyes gesturing towards my phone.
Lucas asked, “Did you see the messages in the group chat earlier?”
I immediately realized he was referring to those messages sent to the wrong group.
I shook my head tiredly and turned away, saying, “No, I didn’t have time to look.”
“It’s just allergies and a fever from falling into the water. If there are any group activities, you can go by yourself.”
“I want to rest for a few days.”
In the reflection of the glass, I clearly saw Jack make an exaggerated sighing gesture.
Lucas kicked him and stood up, saying, “Well, if there’s nothing else, you should rest.”
“I’ll go make an appearance and come back to keep you company. Don’t be afraid.”
Afraid?
Lucas, you’re the one I’m most afraid of now.
Your unfathomable thoughts, your superb acting skills.
Tears soaked my pillow. Lucas suddenly returned.
He reached out to touch my face, stroking my hair as he said:
“You’re crying? Do you miss me that much?”
His voice became gentle: “I’m just going to return the dress. I’ll be back soon.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t abandon you.”
So that’s it. He came back just to ask where the dress was.
He wanted to quickly destroy the evidence and bury these deadly jokes in darkness.
Watching his back as he hurriedly left after getting his answer,
I sat up and wiped away my tears.
Lucas, I don’t want you anymore.
There’s one last time.
Let me play a “joke” on you.
Okay?
