Chapter 27 A Reunion at the Steakhouse
She wore no makeup, not even moisturizer.
O
The fine texture of her skin was clear enough that every pore could be seen.
With her high–level features paired with an elegant coat, her whole aura seemed to rise by hundreds of levels.
In the sales associate’s eyes, she was even more beautiful than any TV star.

The associate couldn’t help exclaiming, “Wow, you’re stunning! This outfit looks like it was tailor–made for you. I don’t think anyone else could wear it half as well.”
Although they said such praises to every customer, this time, she genuinely meant it.
Windy’s cold, detached aura warned others to keep their distance. No matter how much they praised her, her aloofness didn’t
waver.
Windy looked at herself in the mirror
This is good.
She smiled softly at herself.

so alive.
Besides revenge, isn’t living her own life just as important?
Wearing her new clothes, she paid and left the mall.
As for the rest of her new purchases, she left an address for the staff to deliver them later.
After an afternoon of walking around, her stomach felt empty. She remembered the steakhouse she used to love.
Luckily, it wasn’t far from the mall – just a twenty–minute walk.
She found a window seat and sat down. It wasn’t yet dinner time, so the restaurant wasn’t crowded.
She cherished this rare peaceful moment. If she had a book right now, she could sit here all day.
On the other side-
Elsa, just done shopping and carrying a luxury handbag, walked into the steakhouse with a few friends.
Yvonne’s eyes swept the restaurant and landed on the window seat.
“Damn, we’re late. That’s my favorite seat. I always sit there.”
Elsa followed Yvonne’s gaze.
Her smile froze on her face.
“Elsa, what’s wrong?” asked Anna, who was linking arms with her, noticing the sudden change in her expression.
“Who’s that?” Yvonne quickly caught on and pointed toward the young girl by the window.
Elsa’s gaze wavered, and tears shimmered in her eyes.
She grabbed both girls‘ arms and lowered her voice, choking up.
“J… I don’t want steak anymore
At that moment, a smiling waiter came over.
“Miss, welcome! Would you like to order now? We also have private rooms upstairs if you’d like a quieter space.”

Yvonne waved him away. “We’re just sitting here for a bit.”
After sending the waiter off, the three of them sat at a nearby table.
“Who is she?”
“You seem really scared of her!”
“Elsa, are we even your real friends?”
“No matter who she is, we’ve got your back.”
Facing her friends‘ concerned questions, Elsa just shook her head and lowered it, biting her lip in fear.
“Please don’t ask… If she sees me, I… I…
She stammered but couldn’t force the words out.
The rest, her friends could only guess.
Yvonne’s eyes lit up suddenly.
“Wait is she that adopted daughter who just came back?”

“Holy sh*t, Elsa, you’re way too kind! She’s just an adopted girl and she dares to bully you?”
Anna glared in disgust at the figure near the window, already furious on Elsa’s behalf.

“No wonder your face changed the second you saw her. You’ve lost so much weight lately I thought you were dieting, but it’s because of her!”
“Elsa, you’re too gentle. This is your home, your parents. Why are you afraid of her? Is she bullying you at home too?”
“Look, don’t be scared. If you’re wronged, we’ll help you fight back. Who does she think she is, stepping all over the real young lady of the house? Hmph.”
Yvonne slammed her hand angrily on the table, glaring at Windy with fierce eyes.
The three of us against one? Don’t worry. Worst case, we’ll pull her hair out. No way we’re letting her think Elsa is someone she can push around.”
Anna quickly chimed in, her dislike for Windy growing by the second.
“Come on, let’s go meet her.”
The two girls pulled Elsa along toward Windy’s table.
Meanwhile, Windy’s steak had just been served, still sizzling and fragrant. She hadn’t eaten this in over ten years missed this taste.

she had
She remembered the first time she ever had steak.
Back then, Quinn and Elsa had sat right across from her. She had clumsily copied their movements, holding a fork in one hand and a knife in the other, carefully slicing the steak into small pieces.
Quinn had smiled and praised her, “Look at that you’re a quick learner.”
The moment Elsa heard that, she dropped her fork, claiming she felt nauseous just looking at the beef.
Quinn, worried about Elsa’s pale face, had rushed to take her to the hospital.
Of course, she never even got to taste her steak that night she had only smelled its delicious aroma before being dragged off with them.
After that, she never once ate steak with Quinn and Elsa again.

It wasn’t until she dated Morgan that she finally got to enjoy the steak she had craved for so long.
How had she not seen Elsa’s fake, pretentious nature back then?
She pulled herself back from the memories.
