Chapter 146
Knight has a disk he got off Alpha Rizen’s body sitting on the dining room table between us. The rest of his pack is on their way here because they all agreed that this needed to be watched in person and completely off the grid in case whoever killed him tries to show up.
“We can’t tell Savage about this,” Knight says quietly in case Melody is close.
“It never crossed my mind,” I agree.
hat’s going to happen to his pack?”
“At the moment, his beta will take the lead until the successor decides what they want to do with it all.”
“Okay, now is as good a time as any other time to discuss this. What do you want to do with it?” I ask.
“Me?” he shakes his head.
“You haven’t thought about us inheriting this thing from him? You’re the strategy master. There has to be something you want to do with this.” The guilty look he stares at me with almost makes me laugh because we both know he’s already thought about it. “Oh, come on. Don’t look at me like that. I know you, and he wasn’t backing down. Not even when I told him to fuck off. Let’s just make arrangements now.”
“I think Aizen should inherit the pack. He has all the characteristics of an alpha, and he’s not going to like working under Ayrie. He’s very social and calculating. I know he’s going to want this when he gets older, the way Elliot wanted to take over the pack. It’s in his blood.”
It’s my turn to stare at him.
“Fuck,” I break away letting that sink in. “I–what the fuck?”
“Okay,” he grins. Before he can say anything else, the doorbell buzzes.
“Melody, your brother’s here,” I call out. “I’ll take care of this.”
He doesn’t disagree. The girls both run down giggling. I pack her dinner, put it into the backpack, and help her put on her shoes. When I let him in, she sprints from the living room to him. He laughs, crouching down to hug her.
“Did you have fun?” he asks her.
“The bestest fun,” she nods enthusiastically.
“You can bring her by whenever you want, “I tell him, handing him her backpack. “I put some art supplies, recipes, that schedule, and dinner for tonight
in there.”
“Thank you,” he says, taking it. Ace comes in after him and takes Melody.
“Bye, Mel,” the twins call after her, making her giggle.
“Bye guys, I miss you,” she calls back.
“Everything okay?” I ask him.
“Umm, yeah. I-” he groans and holds up a file. “This is a petition to have the twins removed from the school. It was signed by all the parents of the kids attending their classes, and it became official when Nathaniel signed it this morning. He says that-”
“I don’t give a fuck what he says.” Knight snatches the file out of his hand. “This is bullshit, Savage and you know it.”
“I’m not saying it’s not, Man. But you know how this shit is handled.” he sighs.
“I didn’t want them to go to that school anyway.” I shrug.
“Phoebs-”

Chapter 146
“Thank you for letting us know. Melody is welcome to our home wherever we are. She told us she was homeschooled.”
“For that same reason,” he says quietly. “The packs don’t like the higher ranks because they don’t like it when their pups look weak, and that’s exactl what Ayrie did. She turns all four ten–year–olds into, you know.”
“These are your subordinates?” I scoff.
“It’s a difficult job,” he shrugs. “Things aren’t like in the human world, Phoebe. Power means everything to wolves. The packs all have their own rules and cultures. I know it’s messed up, but this is the way things are.”
“Thanks,” is all I can bring myself to say. He looks down at the backpack and then at the file Knight is holding.
“The top page is a list of the best private tutors available, and they travel. There are even some excellent extracurricular tutors for Ayrie’s ballet and art. 1 really am sorry. And thanks for watching Melody for me.”
“You’re welcome. Any time she was very well behaved. I measured her again, and she’s grown a little since the last time. I’ll make her some new dresses and send them to her.”
“What do I owe you?” he asks awkwardly. We both laugh.
“Nothing. Seeing Ayrie finally get along with another kid was enough.”
“Thanks,” he repeats and turns away. We watch them get into the convoy and leave. I lock down the house and let out a heavy sigh.
“You okay?” Knight asks.
“No, and we haven’t even taken a look at what’s on that disk,” I remind him. “I’ll talk to the kids.”
“Okay,” he agrees.
“Come on, guys. Let’s go clean up.”
“Mommy, when is Mel coming back?” Ayrie asks.
“I’m not sure, Guys,” I say, walking into their room. I help them clean up the toys and sit at the end of the bed to wait for them to finish up. “Hey, I have to tell you guys something.”
“What?” Ayrie pauses by her desk and points at her tablet. “I can play?”
“Yeah,” I nod. She picks it up and comes over to the bed. Aizen does the same. “We’re not going to be able to go back to this school,” I inform them. “The alphas told us no.”
“Because I beat up those boys?”
“No, because they have hot dog water blood,” I smirk. The two of them giggle.
“Yeah, I knew when his dad started crying after Daddy punched his mouth.” Ayrie nods.
“We wouldn’t want weak people training us anyway. Pop–pop’s training was better.” Aizen adds.
“And we’re smarter than all of them because of you,” Ayrie adds.
“So, you’re not upset?”
“We go new school?” Ayrie asks.
“Do you want to? What if we can get a tutor like Melody?“.
“Oh,” her eyes widen, and she nods. “I want to.”
Chapter 146
“I want to go to school.” Aizen shakes his head. “Not this one, but maybe a better one?”
“Dad and I are going to talk about it, okay? We’ll see what we come up with on Monday.“.
“Sure,” he nods.
“Dad and some of his friends will be having an important meeting. Can you guys stay here for a bit while we take care of that?”
“Is Auntie coming?”
“She is. It’s Perry, Roman, Baby, and Vy.”
“We can say hello?” Aizen asks.
“Yes, but you can’t stay downstairs. It’s crazy adult stuffs,” I remind them. They both agree. “Okay, let’s go see what Dad’s doing.”
They abandon their tablets and rush out of the room. When I get downstairs, the three of them are playing around and laughing, I find the file on the table and see the list he provided. I’ve actually heard of some of these people from the other moms in París.
When I get to the petition, my blood boils when I see all the names of the people who signed it. I sit back, staring at it for a while. I hear the others arrive, and the twins greet them before they run up to their rooms.
“Hey,” Perry is the first to come and find me. “Knight told us what happened. Lcan hold Nate for you so you can beat the shit out of him.”
“Thanks,” I laugh.
“That’s not a no,” she grins.
“This is fucking dumb. They didn’t do anything wrong.”
“I know,” she says, taking a seat next to me. “None of us ever does. It’s just the way we’re programmed. Everyone wants to be the strongest. It means everything to a wolf.”
“Whatever,” I shrug.
“I brought you something unhealthy,” she places a paper bag on the table between us. “FYI, I brought the twins to Burger King. They had cool toys.”
“Thanks.” I laugh. “Let’s get this over with. Why does it feel like every time we fix something, more problems pour in?”
“Because we’re the bosses. It’s always going to feel that way. I swear everytime we get somewhere with the Lycans worse shit they’ve been trying to cover up pops up. It drives Jonas insane. Doing the thing is his go–to response
now.”
