Chapter 66
Gemini’s POV
I was sad that Gavin couldn’t stay as long as he planned, but it was all for duty Duty calls. I sat in front of my laptop going through some of the unfinished software application projects I had started back in college.
The time was perfect for me, being that I was very much idle now, I can’t just waste my time doing nothing, instead I used the opportunity to sharpen my skills. I had abandoned the work for a while and it almost felt like some things had erased from my memory. But now that I was going through them again, 1 kind of felt refreshed.
A soft knock was placed on my door, accompanied by the calm voice of a maid calling out to me. “Ma’am, the King requests your presence at
dinner.”
Asher is having dinner with me tonight? That was something that had become very rare these days.
to the dining
I put my laptop to sleep and hurried out of the room, my rumbling stomach reminding me that I indeed needed filling. On getting to room. I made my way to the other end as usual, only to realise that there were no empty plates in front of my seat. Rather two empty plates were stationed close to Asher, one in front of him and the other by his side.
They maids must have made a mistake, I concluded, picking another empty plate from the middle of the table. Asher’s heavy gaze remained on me and I couldn’t help but question myself internally.
Are you avoiding me?” Asher stated, his eyes locking on mine.
The question sounded absurd, causing me to scoff. “Me? What for? In fact, I should be the one asking you. I mean this is the first time we are seeing since the day after my birthday.”
For two whole days. Asher didn’t see me, neither did I set my eyes on him. “Sometimes I wonder if it’s just work or you just don’t want to spend time with me because you are scared of falling in love.”
Asher rolled his eyes at me, “Quit talking rubbish and focus on your food.” He said plainly, his demeanour giving nothing of what he actually thought or fch.
I raised an eyebrow at Asher’s blunt response. His eyes remained fixed on his food, his expression unreadable.
“Scared of falling in love with me?” I repeated, trying to stifle a grin. The idea was absurd.
Acher’s gaze flickered up, his eyes narrowing slightly. Just drop it. Gemini.”
I shrugged, focusing on my food. The silence between us was alarming, but I didn’t feel uncomfortable. We’d shared many meals together, and the d–afening silence had become a familiar companion
The maid refilled our glasses and I couldn’t help my intrusive thoughts. I downed the whole glass at a goal, prompting her to pour me another.
Asher’s eyes remained on me long enough for me to notice. “Don’t blame me, I just can’t help the unpleasant feeling in my tongue.”
Silence enveloped us once more, dinner almost coming to an end as we both struggled with one or two bites more. I figured this to be the perfect time to ask, “Asher, I’ve been meaning to ask you this for a while now. What discussion dial you have with my mom and why did she come out looking
As if perfectly timed for disruption, his phone buzzed, the loud tone interrupting my question. He shot me a warning finger, a clear signal to hali. my question. I watched as he answered, his expression shifting into something serious.
He barely touched his food, and I found myself mirroring his actions, my fork hovering above my barely touched plate. The roast chicken looked delicious, but the conversation had taken a turn that made my litle appetite vanish.
Asher ended the call abruptly, pushing his plate away. “I have to go,” he said, his voice clipped. He didn’t wait for a response before standing up and striding out of the dining room, leaving me alone with my thoughts and the remnants of nur dinner.
Tune crawled by, and my

restlessness.
I dipped myself over and over again, letting the cool water carry me so effortlessly. I was still enjoying the cool embrace of the water when I heard footsteps approaching. My heart skipped a beat, and I turned to see Asher’s figure silhouetted against the moonlight area
“Gemini”” |
– he called
his voice reverberating through the night air.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, clearly curious as to why he was looking for me this late
He stepped closer, concern etched on his face. “I should be asking you that. Why are you not in bed?” He asked, a hint of seriousness in his tone, but I could see the warmth in his eyes.
wasn’t feeling too well Is there a reason you are looking for me this late?” He didn’t reply to my question, rather he dipped his hands inside the water to feel the temperature.
“Are you sure there is nothing you wa
want to tell me?” 1 added, hinting at our unfinished conversation at the dining.
“The water temperature is too low he warned, ignoring my question as usual “Come out.”
“I’m fine!” I said, swimming away from him in a fit of rage. I was just so sick of everyone keeping secrets from me.
“Gemini!” He barked, but i didn’t spare him a glance. “Don’t make me come in there to fetch your”
I scoffed in disbelief, but I remained adamant. He shifted closer to the edge of the pull, stretching his hands towards me. “Grab my hand! Hr ordered.
I was going to ignore, but I thought, why not make a little scene. I reached out and grabbed his wrist, trying to tug him in with me.
He didn’t budge, a smirk forming on his lips. “Nice try, Gemini. Get out of there.”

But I wasn’t done yet. I let him pull me out, but just when he thought he got me, I wrapped my arms around him, a mischievous glint in I pulled him with me.
With a splash, we both fell into the pool, the cold water engulfing us. 1 surfaced, shaking my head as water cascaded down my face. “You little=“he let out a low growl of displeasure
“What’s wrong, your majesty? Can’t handle a little water?”
Asher’s
eyes darkened, his usual calm demeanour turning into fury. He closed the distance between us and with a low voice that could almost be likened to a growl, he said. “Gemini, do you ever think before you act? What if you hurt yourself”
I could feel the heat radiating from his body, contrasting with the cool water. His face was inches from mine, and my gaze involuntarily dropped to his lips. They were so close, so tempting
“I dont want you endangering the life of my child like that he warned, his breath warm against my skin.
Without thinking. I closed the gap, pressing my lips to his. For a heartbeat, he remained still, and then the next moment, he pushed me away. Tms
sorry.” I stammered, my
my cheeks burning. “It was just the mate bond”
That was a fucking lic, it was all me- me trying to gain his attention and love despite knowing how impossible that could be. I blamed myself even more for not sticking to the no–string attached relationship. I had thought that the little changes the past few days meant something, most especially the day of my birthday and the day after.
I turned to leave, mortified by my impulsiveness. But before I could take a step, his hand caught my arm, pulling me back. His lips crashed onto mune with a fervour that took my breath away.
