I wanted to break free from his hold, but his grip was strong, and I was forced to walk with him.
After the wound was cleaned, we went to visit Cora in the ward together.
She excitedly grabbed my hand and chattered non–stop.
“Phoebe, I’m going to be a mom. I feel so happy!”
“Phoebe, when the baby is born, you have to be the godmother!”
I sat by the bed, feeling both jealous and envious of the blissful woman in front of me.
She has a husband who truly loves her and a second male who silently supports her, and that person is my husband.
But what did Cora do wrong? She’s bright, cheerful, kind, and upright. She doesn’t even know about Declan’s hidden feelings.
I tried hard to suppress the dark emotions surging within me. I don’t want to become the person I despise.
I held her hand, gently comforting her. “When you become a mom, you have to be more careful. Watch what you eat, and don’t indulge in cold things!”
“Got it.”
Jasper handed me a cup of warm water with a smile. “Phoebe’s words work. Everything I say is pointless. When she acts coy, I have no way
out.”
“Stop it!”
Cora held my hand. “Phoebe, you and Declan should hurry up too. Then the kids won’t be lonely. They could be brothers or sisters, maybe even a couple!”
Declan affectionately wrapped his arm around me, as if the rift from before never existed.
He smiled and promised Cora, “Thanks for the good wishes. We’ll get on it!”
I suddenly felt a chill, my back cold. Actually, I have a little baby in my belly too. But…
Cora leaned against Jasper, acting coy and planning what to prepare for the baby, her face full of happiness.
Declan sat quietly beside me, gazing at his beloved in front of him.
I didn’t want to notice his gaze or pay attention to his emotions. I just felt exhausted.
