Chapter 72
Asher’s POV
“My Lady, the task has been completed,”
Suspicion and anger began to rise within me. Who was she talking to? And what task? My instincts kicked in, and I moved closer to listen.
“Are you sure it was done properly?” the voice on the other end asked, a feeling of uncertainty in their voice. “We can’t afford any mistakes.”
I clenched my fists, my mind racing as I turned the corner. I spotted a figure slipping into a nearby room and I hesitated for a moment, weighing my options. Should I confront them now or gather more information first? I opted for stealth, quietly inching closer to the door. I made sure to mask my scent so as to avoid being noticed.
Inside, I could still hear the muffled voices. “Ma’am, I would call you back, I think someone is keeping an eye on me.” At that moment, I smashed the door open.
With one hand, I lifted the lady dressed in a maid’s attire, her legs dangling above the floor level. “What was that all about?” I barked.
“Your… Your majesty please.” She cried, her voice a painful tone in my ears.
“Answer me!” I growled.
I snatched the phone from her hands, furiously dialling back the last caller. But the line was suddenly unreachable
“You think you can mess with me, huh?” I slammed her against the wall, a low growl escaping her mouth.
“You don’t know what you’ve gotten yourself into!” I said, pain shooting through my eyes and I handed her over to the nearest guards. “Lock her up!”
As I prepared to step out of the hospital, I bumped into Alan whose reaction carried a sense of urgency, “Your majesty…” He bowed. “How is the young miss doing?”
“The doctor said she is better, but we lost the child.”
Alan’s face contorted into a confused scowl, “Child? I had no idea she was pregnant. I’m so sorry about the loss, Your Majesty.” He said, bowing his head slightly as if sharing in my pain.
“So, does that mean you wouldn’t be able to attend the meeting or even the sharing?”
I ran a hand through my hair, frustration bubbling as I recalled the meeting was to attend and also the distribution of proceeds amongst the farmily of the bereaved.
I shook my head in resignation, “I can’t focus on anything else right now. Not after losing my child.”
“I could handle it on your behalf, Your Majesty.” I nodded, giving him a go–ahead.
“Also….” I called before he could hurry off. “I want to be updated on everything concerning Phillips and Rex.”
“Yes, your Majesty,” Alan replied.
Once I finished with Alan, I made my way to the best IT guy with the maid’s phone which I had snatched.
“Your majesty, how may I be of help?” Evelyn Durk said, standing to her feet in acknowledgement.
“I need you to track the last caller,” I said, handing her the phone, “I also need the audio record of the conversation if possible.”
“Of course, Your Majesty,” Evelyn nodded, understanding the urgency. “I’ll take care of it right away.”
As she hurried around to get the work done, I felt a mix of anger and confusion swirling inside me. I needed answers, and I needed them fast.
Evelyn nodded, her focus returning to the screen. “Just a few more seconds, your majesty.” The tension in the room was palpable, the air

thick with anticipation.
O
Finally, she leaned back in her chair, a look of triumph on her face. “Got it! The last call was to a number registered under a private name. It’s not listed in any public directory, but I can trace the location.”
“Do it,” I commanded, leaning closer to the screen. “Where did the call originate?”
She typed furiously, the screen flashing with data. “It looks like it came from a location just outside the city. A warehouse, actually. I can send you the coordinates.”
Warehouse? I thought to myself.
“Send them to me now,” I said, urgency tinging my voice. “We need to find out what’s going on there.”
As she sent the information to my phone, I felt a surge of determination as I readied myself to uncover the truth. My hands danced around the screen as I had to confront whoever was behind this. I couldn’t allow them to continue their schemes unchecked.
I nodded, already moving towards the door as I scanned the location further. Wait what? Homerock Pack?
NEXT MORNING
Gemini had just been discharged, and I stood outside her hospital room, watching as the nurses assisted her toward where I stood. I could notice how she was trying to seem strong despite the pain she felt. My heart ached at the sight, I couldn’t stop thinking of the pains she had had to go through because of me.
Before I took her in, I never cared about the dangers or whatever, all I cared about was getting my heir. But now, I feel like she should be given a break. I don’t know if it’s the mate bond or something else within me, but I feel extremely heavy in my heart whenever I have to watch her suffer like this.
“There’s really no need for all of this,” she protested, her voice weak but determined. “I’ll be fine in the guest room!” She tried to sound firm, but I could hear the tremor beneath her words.
I shook my head, crossing my arms over my chest. “You’re staying with me. It’s safer that way.”
Her brow furrowed in frustration. “Asher, I can take care of myself. I don’t need a babysitter.”
I stepped closer, lowering my voice. “You don’t understand. There are threats out there–threats that put you in danger. I can’t take that risk.”
Before she could argue further, the maids entered the room, bustling around with her belongings. They moved swiftly, packing her things and preparing to transfer them to my chambers.
Gemini’s eyes widened in disbelief. “You can’t be serious! You’re not really going to-”
“Not only that,” I interrupted, my tone firm. “I’m assigning extra security. My most trusted guards will be stationed outside the room, 24/7. No one gets in or out without a confirmation order from me.”
She opened her mouth to protest again, but I raised a hand. “This isn’t up for debate, Gemini. You need protection, and I won’t allow you to refuse it.”
“After all, what’s there to be scared of?” I added, hinting at our nights together and the fact that we are mates.
