Chapter 85
Asher’s POV
“So what do you suggest we do now?” Alan asked, looking up from the videos we had on review.
Confusion sat deep within me as I looked over everything. “All of these look normal to me,” I finally commented after staring blankly at all the pictures and videos.
After what Gemini had told me earlier, I made sure to watch Elder Phillips and Rex day and night, yet I couldn’t find anything I could pin on them as suspicious. My confusion deepened as I dismissed Alan and remained all by myself.
Something isn’t right!
I’m either being played by Elder Phillips and Rex or by Gemini. And if you ask me, I certainly couldn’t trust anyone, but I know who I believe the most out of both parties.
I headed over to Becca’s cell where she had been for months, I don’t know why, but I went anyway. “What do you want from me, Asher?” I could sense the anger bottling inside of her.
remained quiet for a while, taking in her miserable looks and how she had suddenly lost her savour. I refused to torture her yet cause I still wasn’t sure whether or not she was guilty of the crime she had been accused of.
At the point of her arrest, my world had been so clouded by Gemini that I barely believed what any other person had to say. But what changed? I would say a lot.
And why? I still don’t have the answer…
“How are you enjoying my misery?” Becca said trying to hold back her tears.
I leaned against the cold, steel wall of her cell, crossing my arms. “I’m not here to enjoy anything, Becca,” I replied, my voice steady, devoid of any warmth. “I came to see if there’s anything worth my time,” I said, going straight to the point.
Her eyes flashed with anger, but I could see the cracks in her facade. “You think this is a game? You think it’s funny to have my life paused because your so–called mate hates me?”
I raised an eyebrow, my expression unchanging. “Emotional blackmail won’t save you. The only thing that would be when you finally decide to spill out the truth, Becca. Why do you keep on appearing at the edge of all my investigations?”
She scoffed, wiping a tear away with the back of her hand. “And what is that supposed to mean?” She placed her hands in front of her face, a gesture to show her disappointment in herself. “Why am I even asking, you’ve already made up your mind about me.”
“Your guilt or innocence doesn’t matter to me,” I said, leaning in slightly, my voice dropping to a whisper. “What matters is the truth. If there’s something you’re hiding, it could cost you more than just a cell.”
Becca’s shoulders slumped. “You think I’m afraid of whatever threat you’re bringing on? Asher you’ve done more than enough and I bet that if I can handle this, I can handle anything else.”
“And truly, I deserve to be behind these bars. Not for the reason you think, but forever loving someone like you.”
My stern gaze remained unwavering despite the laughter that threatened to explode through me. “Whenever you are ready, I’m ready,” I said in a dismissive tone.
She seemed to notice my seriousness at that point, and I watched her confidence melt into desperation. “Asher you can’t continue to hold me hostage here, I didn’t do anything. This is all a set–up, it must be Gemini’s way of getting me out of the picture. Can’t you see… She has succeeded in turning you against me.” She rushed her words, making sure that I would hear every piece of it before I walked out the main doors.
Despite not being sure if Becca was really responsible for the wolfsbane that had been injected in Gemini, I couldn’t help the lingering thought of her involvement in something else… Something illegal.
The missing footage remained missing to date, leaving the puzzle incomplete. Frustration gnawed at me, a constant reminder that I still wasn’t In control of the situation. And that feeling of not being in control made my blood boil. And unfortunately, everything at this point seemed that way, I could literally see control slipping out of my hands.

Chapter 85
I returned to my office where I sat for hours, trying to send out as many proposals as I could, reaching out to companies with the most benefits.
I sighed, rubbing my tired eyes as I finally wrapped up my work for the night. I succeeded in sending numerous proposals, trying to secure the best deals for our pack.
“Alan?” I called, causing the man who had been battling with sleep for the longest to shoot up.
“Yes, your majesty?” Came his reply.
“Alan, I need you to follow up 88’8‘ all the emails I sent out today. Make sure to get a response from each company by the end of the
week.”
“Got it, your majesty. I’ll take care of it,” Alan replied, his tone professional.
I nodded. “Good. Keep me updated.”
I stood up, stretching my tired muscles. I glanced at the clock on my wall – 12:45 AM. Time for some rest.
I made my way to my room, my footsteps quiet in the empty hallway. I took a refreshing shower, feeling the cool water wash away my fatigue.
As I stepped out of the shower, I dried myself off and slipped into a pair of comfortable pyjama pants. I was about to get into bed when I remembered to lock my window.
I walked over to the window and pushed it closer to me, feeling the cool night breeze on my skin. Just as I proceeded to pull it further in and lock it, my gaze fell upon something outstanding in the darkness. It was unlike anything I had seen, my mind subconsciously raising an alarm…
