Chapter 90
Asher’s POV
Today was a special day for Endrick, automatically making it a special day for me too. I was dressed in a black suit specially designed for me by one of the biggest fashion brands in the city.
I put aside work for this day, being the day that Endrick would be joined with his beloved mate. The mating ceremony was to take place at Home rock pack, our pack of origin. The same place where Endrick and I grew to be buddies.
“Go and check on Gemini for me, I want to be sure she is ready,” I ordered the maid who had come to deliver my perfume.
With a nod, she strolled out and I picked up the expensive jar of perfume. I sprayed the perfume on my wrists, the scent filling the air as I made my way to the mirror. I adjusted my tie, making sure everything was perfect.
Just as I was about to turn away from the mirror, the maid returned, her face looking a bit flustered.
“Your majesty, I checked on Lady Gemini, but she’s not ready yet,” she said, her voice hesitant.
I raised an eyebrow, my eyes narrowing slightly. “What do you mean she’s not ready?”
The maid took a deep breath before speaking. “She’s not even dressed, your majesty. And she’s…she’s not looking too well.”
My expression turned concerned, my mind racing with thoughts. “Did she say what was wrong?”
The maid shook her head unknowingly, “No your majesty. She didn’t say what was wrong.”
I grew increasingly worried hearing that, I couldn’t help but think if it was one of those attacks that would land her in the hospital again. Did I not provide the best of guards to watch over her, how then did any hater get close to her? Elder Phillips even helped change the whole security team just so as to ensure her safety. But I guess all of that wasn’t enough.
With long strides, I made my way towards her room, not caring to ask any more questions. Without even knocking, I pushed the door open. “Gemini!” I called out, worry threatening to overwhelm me. “What is the matter?” I asked, not even sparing a second to breathe after entering.
Gemini sat up on her bed, shock in her eyes, all thanks to my sudden appearance. Obviously, she didn’t expect to see me. “Your majesty!” She called like she had been doing frequently these days. She no longer addressed me by my name just to make sure to maintain formality in this situationship.
“There’s really nothing to be worried about.” She started, causing the frown on my face to appear even more.
“What do you mean there is nothing to be worried about? Look how pale you are.” I didn’t even realise when my voice began to rise.
“I said I’m fine, it’s just the regular sickness that comes with pregnancy. Other than that, I’m good.”
Still not convinced, I leaned in closer, checking her temperature and any other thing I thought needed to be checked. I didn’t realise how close I had come to her until our breath began to hit each other’s skin. My eyes flickered to her and for a moment, we were locked in each other’s gaze.
The pace of my heart beat was already increasing and I couldn’t afford letting her find out that being with her made my heart race. I shot up quickly, “I would send the senior maids who have experience in such things to help you out. Make sure you’re better before I’m back.”
I turned to leave but I stopped halfway, trying to sound as natural as possible, “Do you need me to get anything for you while I’m returning?” I asked.
Due to what I’ve known over the years, pregnant women were known to crave a lot of things and I just wanted to play the good husband even if things aren’t too good with us. But Gemini bluntly said. “You won’t get me what I want, so don’t bother.” I should have seen that as a sign to leave, but my curiosity didn’t let me.
“What is it that you feel I won’t give to you?”
“Freedom. You won’t give me freedom. At least not until I’ve had your child.”
The hall erupted into an applause as Endrick and his mate locked lips. But within a split second, the faces in front of me changed to

Gemini and myself. I shook my head as if trying to do away with the imagination, but right in that moment, I caught Cain’s defiant eyes trained on me, heighting my discomfort.
I looked away, trying to hide the unease that sat deep within me. As much as I had to be there for Endrick, I can’t say that I enjoyed the event. This was certainly not the kind of events I attended, and even when invited to stuff like mating ceremony and crowning, I made sure to arrive when I was sure that they were done with everything concerning the mating ceremony. But there again it was all for Endrick.
The applause faded, but Endrick’s smile didn’t. He beamed, his happiness radiating like sunlight. Endrick’s joy was contagious, and despite the kind of person I am, I found myself sharing in his joy.
I watched as he pulled his mate closer, their joy palpable. But behind that happiness, a storm brewed inside me. I couldn’t shake off the image of Gemini’s pale face, her words echoing in my mind–‘freedom…‘
“Hey, you good?” Endrick’s voice broke through my thoughts. He looked at me, concern etched on his face.
“Endrick!” I called, regaining myself.

congratulations man.” I added, shaking his hands.
Endrick’s eyes lingered on me, a knowing look in their depths. “Thinking about work, ain’t you?”
“Of course not,” I replied sharply, not wanting to ruin his mood.

Actually, I would have been thinking about work if she wasn’t all over my mind, clouding it and making it hard for me to focus on any other thing no matter how hard I tried.
“And how is she?” Endrick added, a smile playing at the corner of his lips.
“Gemini is well!” I replied, my tone dismissive. “You should go and attend to others,” I said, clapping him on the shoulder.
As the ceremony continued, I found myself drifting. I caught sight of the food table, lavishly decorated with dishes I didn’t even recognize. My stomach grumbled, reminding me I hadn’t eaten, not even breakfast. I made my way over, grabbing a plate and piling it high with whatever looked appetizing.
“Of course, you would do everything in your power to avoid your side chick and mate meeting,” a voice annoyingly teased. I turned to see Cain leaning against the wall, arms crossed.
My food immediately turned sour, “What side chick?” I muttered more to myself.

“Actually, I have a lot of them, it’s just that people like you are so worried about power and influence that you forget that there are other important things like family.”
“Cain!” I growled, though trying to keep my voice low. “Now is not the time, and this certainly is not the place,” I warned.
He raised his hands in resignation, slowly backing away from me. And just like they were taking turns, Becca approached me.
Cain’s words replayed in my mind and I began to piece things together. Side chick-
“What do you want?” I demanded, not even giving her the benefit of settling in the luxury of my presence.
